Please help me understand something
Are we, I mean the Eagles, going to keep 4 quarterbacks? Why is this what I have been hearing(reading)? Please tell me that I am not the only person--rabid Eagles fan--who thinks this would be a retarded move. If we didn't think that Mike Vick was good enough to be our back up's back up, then explain the move to me. He should be the 3rd Qb. What is the problem with that? He might have to play(start) if something happens to DMoney and Kolb. Ok, I get it. That leads to my next question. Is AJ Feely waay better than Mike Vick? Why would anyone think this????? Especially our FO?
I could go on forever, really. This is a major concern of mine. Can someone please straighten me out. I read this site everyday and I still have no idea why anyone would even consider this as a viable option. Especially since we have--might have-- some problems at FS and we have extra talent at the WR position.
Any explaination would be appriciated. Thanks

What do you mean Evilbanner?
Are you saying that Vick has to be listed as the 2nd string QB or he cannot come in the game? What does that mean? Is that a rule? If so, I never heard of it. I could be wrong but can’t Reid put in whoever he wants in at anytime?
I’m glad you said that AJ is going to be cut. Because I cannot see it anyother way then that.
This is going to sound callous ...
… but how can you have major concerns and be so sure of things like AJ getting cut when you’re not even aware of the rules? I don’t mean that as a putdown, I just think if you come on here asking a question and people are answering it, keep an open mind.
See Nodar’s post below on the game day actives rule.

Why wouldn’t I have a open mind? I posted a question.
It isn’ a put down. I didn’t know the rule. Well, AJ should be cut. That is why it is a major concern. He isn’t going to play. Mcnabb isn’t getting hurt and he is going to have a monster year. Kolb is better than him. Vick is better than him. That is why I am concerned, AJ isn’t good enough to hold a roster spot.
Our situation: Having a two Qbs rotating and the wildcat are very new. In college and the NFL. I haven’t passed over the NFL rule book because I ain’t got that much time. So, this is why I ask you guys questions. Because you know more about that kind of stuff.
"3rd qb rule"
You gotta read more of the posts man. It’s been discussed a lot lately why vick has to be the 2nd qb, unless he’s listed as something else. If not, mcnabb/kolb couldnt come back on the field after he comes in.
"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

Emergency QB Rule
Vick can be the 3rd string QB, so as long is he is not counted as the “emergency” 3rd string. The issue with this is he would then be on the 45 man game day active roster (the “emergency” QB does not count on the 45 man) and we would be short handed in another position.
Really?
I could go on forever, really. This is a major concern of mine.
You’re really beating yourself up over whether we keep Feeley or Tracy White or Mike McGlynn? I guess there are some bubble dudes like Bryan Smith or Jack Ike that people here really like, but I don’t think it’s worth quite this level of concern.
First off, if I understand correctly, it’s a non-issue until Goodell permits Vick to play in regular season games. If it’s really Week 6 he waits until, by then someone on the 53-man will be hurt, and Vick will take his roster spot. Or they’ll just Tony Hunt somebody.
Second, as everyone above says, he has to be listed as the No. 2 QB because of the gameday inactive/No. 3 QB rule.
Vick might be No. 2 QB in name only though. The best way I’ve seen it explained is that if the an injury to McNabb occurred before the fourth quarter, Vick would come in and finish the game, but Kolb would likely be the No. 1 next week with Vick still the backup. Unless Vick gets his QB skills up really quickly.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Eagles shop around to see if anyone’s willing to part with anything for Feeley or possibly Kolb, but if no one is offering anything, QB is a valuable position in this league, and we have four who can (potentially) play. Just because keeping four breaks convention doesn’t necessarily make it a stupid idea.

I know what I saw when I watched the game. I don’t think our Oline is a lock. So yeah, I would like to see McGlynn on our roster. I don’t like Baskett, I would rather have Brown or Gibson(maybe).
Sean Jones and Macho and Demps should all be on the roster. I didn’t see much out of everyones’ favorite nobody Demps to be confident about him. Jack maybe too, because of not seeing where Brown is at. Hanson didn’t look that good to me either. Rather would have another CB for some help.
Thanks for the rule explaination, I didn’t know about the “emergencey” QB rule. I also couldn’t explain it to anyone else if the asked it to me now. That means that I still really don’t know about it at all really.
And no, I ain’t beating myself up. I know for a fact that a whole lot of people don’t know about that rule and many others. Here’s a hint: they don’t have time to study the NFL rule book, because it changes every year.
emergency QB rule. You can have your first and second string QB switch off plays the entire game if you want them to, but as soon as the third stringer comes in, the first two can’t play anymore.
Umm
Simple explaination… I like it.
Thanks for the information. I didn’t know about that rule. So, starting week 6, Vick is going to be our #2. Got it.
Thanks
I guess you're on to something
in that it’s going to be a tight cutdown day no matter what. We are going to see some names we are familiar with not on the team for Week 1. That’s what happens when you continue to draft well.
With Bradley and Ingram on the IR, in a sense, that’s two jobs that have opened up. We’ve seen the Eagles leave themselves short at PR/KR two seasons ago and FB last year, but they seem to have a lot of versatility all of a sudden, which could help on cutdown day.
A few examples: Macho Harris is a S/CB. Demps has the speed to play CB, but I don’t know how much work he gets there. Sean Jones and Mikell can both play either safety spot, although I think if Demps is on the field, he’s the FS. Darren Howard can play DT and DE. Omar Gaither can play all three LB spots.
On offense, OL, Nick Cole might be the backup center and a guard. Both the Andrewses and possibly Herremans could play tackle in a pinch. Weaver will be the FB, but can also carry the ball if no third RB after Westy and Shady wows.
In other words, I think they’ve bought themselves a lot of space at the bottom of the roster for flexibility, and if they use a spot on a 4th QB, it’s not the end of the world.
There’ll definitely be room to argue this as we get close to final cutdown, but let’s let the Birds shop WRs and QBs and maybe even DEs and see what comes. Maybe they turn some players into picks, as they are wont to do

I see. I don’t disagree with what you say. But, I don’t know if I am comfortable with all of these multipositional roles that your talking about. I have heard about these cases, but, I don’t know if they are legit. I have see what Klecko and Cole could do at FB. I wasn’t impressed.
Demps as a 4th corner? I dunno, sounds nice. But can he really do it? Macho? I don’t know. He looks good but who can really tell. In other words, Spadaro and his grand imagination doesn’t impress me at all. I have read too much garbage from him to intrust him with my endorsement ever again(See Booker).
I forgot about B.Smith. He looks really fast to me. Could be another D.Burgess in develpment.
Well stay here ...
… and skip the Spadaro, first off. :)
Second, Cole is a jumbo package FB, and obviously Klecko is not one at all. That was a stopgap at best, and I think we all agree how the FBs were handled last year was a mistake.
Demps playing CB long-term is probably a stretch. He’s got a big role at safety, and with three virtual locks at S and three at corner, Harris and Ikegonuwu would give us 8 in the secondary. I guess that’s a good workable number.
I mean it doesn’t have to be a lot of guys taking on dual roles, just one or two to buy that extra spot to keep Feeley. If someone loses a QB, that’s a nice trade chip to have.
And like I said, i think it’s immaterial until Vick is officially reinstated. I could be wrong though.

Unfortunately
It seems like the odd man out is Feeley…man, I’ll really miss him if he leaves. He was a consistent backup. I still remember him and the team ALMOST beating the undefeated Pats 2 years ago…
I’ll be the first to wish him the best of luck if he’s gone.
Side note: Even though we lost that game in heart-breaking fashion, that was one of the most entertaining Eagles games in recent memory. G-lew was a certified Patriot-killer in that game, and we were the first defense to figure them out. I guess you could say, the Giants wouldn’t have won the Superbowl without us, lol.

Yeah
it was tough watching him compete but blow both his starts with late interceptions. Remember Westbrook had a sick punt return I think it was against Seattle, where someone pushed him out of bounds at like the 13 with a minute left. Feeley threw a pick over the middle to Tatupu or Leroy Hill, then the next week threw that unnecessary pass to Asante.
It was good to see the Birds stay competitive that year, and maybe good that he didn’t win or the call for him to start might never have died down. … I think Feeley is exactly good enough to keep you competitive if your QB has to miss a few games. I do not mind keeping him.
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
Yeah I remember how terrible Feeley was in that Seattle game. Tatupu was an interception machine, just sitting right in Feeley’s throwing lanes the whole day. I don’t know if he got 3 picks, but I’m sure he got at least 2.
Overall though, I have to agree with you. Feeley is exactly what you would expect a backup QB to be. He gives you a chance to win, and really that’s all you could ask for from a guy like him. I wouldn’t mind keeping him either, but it wouldn’t shock me if he gets cut for space.

Actually I just checked that Seattle game out of curiosity, and here is Feeley’s stat line.
19-42, 220 yds, 1 TD, 4 Interceptions.
And 3 of those interceptions went to Tatupu alone lol. He’s one of those QBs that looks amazing at times, and horrendous other times. Not much in between.

I wonder how much of it is ...
… him and how much is lack of meaningful reps, since the 1s and 2s get most of them once the season begins.
But between here and Miami, he’s had more shots than some career backups ever get
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
No way in hell we keep 4 QB's.
Feeley isnt a good enough QB to warrent us keeping 4. He is the obvious odd man out. Were to deep at WR and DB to keep another QB and take away from those positions which is the only place we have fat to trim…
Kolb isnt a mistake unless he proves he is. Its not his fault we put him in under horrible circumstances, he tried to do to much and got picked off big whoop ALL YOUNG QB’S DO THAT… But you cant call him a “bust” because he hasnt played alot. He is worthy of a 2nd round pick until HE proves otherwise.
And I hope McNabb doesnt get hurt(knock on wood) but if it were to happen(knock on wood) I think we would play Vick and Kolb like in ’03(? could be wrong on the year) but most likely it would be them both with playing time and starts depending on the situation…. and once again KNOCK ON WOOD!
Kolb isnt a mistake unless he proves he is.
Very true stuff there.
I’m not ready to write Kolb off until he gets a fair amount of time to prove himself. I don’t call being thrown into a game against a hungry Ravens defense, with the pressure of your starting QB being benched, a fair situation. I want to see him play in at least 3-4 regular season games before I even begin to consider him a bust.

thanks...
I give kolb a 5-6 game time period before I even begin to think about putting kolb and bust in the same sentence.
Feeley
Was playing out of his mind in that Patriot game. I wonder why though. He did beat them when he played with Miami. Billacheat should have had some knowledge of what he can do.
GLewis is terrible. I cannot wait to see what he does up there. Who knows? All I know is that I hate him and I cannot be happier he isn’t on this team to piss me off. I will never forget the drop in the NFC championship game(and his non-reaction). I could have kill myself when that happened.
QB Situation
The reason the 4 quarterback situation is so interesting is because the unique circumstances we find ourselves in. Donovan McNabb is the clear 1. Kolb was drafted as the successor and hasn’t been given a true shot yet. Feeley has proven to be a very very capable backup (4-1 as a starter when McNabb and Detmer went down a few years back). Then there is Vick, who is the wild card and has too much talent not to be on the field. In the end the decision will probably be to cut Feeley, but I can see why the FO is taking so long because Feeley has done nothing but be capable in his years here.
Wait
Vick’s not going to play till around Week 6. UGH, Wtf? This makes no sense to me. Do we then keep Feeley until that week Vick comes back?
Damn…QB situation….fuck..DAMN…fuck.

I take back what I said ...
… it would have been a lot more convenient if this weren’t true. However, I think they might be inclined to keep 3 QBs for as long as Vick is ineligible.
Goodell’s ruling will allow Vick to play in the final two preseason games. At that point, Vick will count on the Eagles’ regular-season 53-man roster if he continues to practice with the team. An Eagles source indicated the team expects Vick to be on the roster so they can continue to get him game-ready for the regular season.
