First 5 Cuts Revisited
OK, now that Todd is out a couple of weeks in the regular season, Fenuki or Mike McGlynn makes the team but what about other bubble guys? Who is your cuts now that we've been given a decent look at everyone on the team? I think Eugene Bright saved himself a week with his performance as did Matt Wilhelm. No Booker today which mean Booker is probably gone. So who could the other four be?
Heres mine:
2. Kyle Eckel-Unfortunately.
3. Chris Patrick-maybe the easiest cut.

I agree. I’d be furious if Eckel makes this team.

he may not be performing too well this preseason
but there is a reason we got him last year, he helped our 3rd down conversions a lot and was a solid player for us last year, and for the patriots before us

Once again, I truly do believe Amendola will get some spot on the team…man, I’m really rooting for this guy.

Eckel
I think people like him because he came in that Thanksgiving game and picked up some third and fouth and shorts..
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

KYLE ECKEL
After reading a bunch of these comments and predictions about players being cut, I have the impression that a lot of people on BGN thinks Eckel is garbage. And a large amount of BGN people also has a “man crush” on him. Like i said in a post above, he is a decent player and helped us a lot last year when we brought him in but is not having a great pre season. I am personally a big fan of Eckel and hope he makes the team, but long story short, we now have one of the top full backs in the league, Weaver. So my guess is that he will get cut. If he gets cut, I believe he will definitely get picked up by another team and probably help them out. And just take a look at some of his highlights from navy. Even though its a completely different type of environment, he was definitely a force to be reckoned with. He piled up the 4th most rushing yards in school history (2906 yds) and the 4th most rushing TD’s (25). I believe he still has that tenacity that he had at navy, which leads me to believe that he will have a decent career (probably not in philly though)

I couldn’t find any short yardage stats but for last season:
Eckel had 24 carries and 6 first downs.
Westbrook had 233 carries and 54 first downs.
The ratio is comparable and Westbrook should be much healthier this season. I’m also thinking Eckle’s number should be better as he likely had more short yard carries and wasn’t running as much on 1st and 10 type of plays. (That’s complete speculation)
Eckel was also jobless for a month before the Eagles signed him. I think he’s far from a lock to be picked up.

Eckel is
not going to help this team, Weaver is a Stud and No NFL team carries two fullbacks. Eckel has played like garbage this pre season. He played like garbage against indy and everyone saw his fumble yesterday on his only touch. Clean out your locker

Special teams
are going to determine whether guys like Eckel make it.
As far as the actual question, I have nothing to add, but I wouldn’t miss any of the guys in either of the cut lists provided above.

Reid usually gives vet guys a chance to get picked up
1) Schobel – Celek is now healthy, no chance anyone picks up Schobel for a while so if we need him back he should be available.
2) Patrick – has no chance to make team and has played poorly.
3) Hughes – no chance to make team and will not stay on PS since he can go back to CFL.
4) Daniels – fits the vet bill and though I like him in general, looks like White and Wilhelm have surpassed him. Why did they bring in Gatewood? I saw Daniels playing DE which was surprising since he was a rover/safety type in college.
5) Eckel – fits the vet cut criteria but could stay just to take some reps from Mailei. I like Mailei and do not want him hurt or to look too good and get picked off PS when we cut him. Eckel will also probably be on the street for awhile if we need him back.
Booker has to stay in case McCoy or Buckley get hurt in final PS game.
Not sure why they still have so many OL. I have no idea who is any good but one from M.Gibson, Reynolds, Fanaika will be on PS. I like Gibson since it seems like he can play any line position (T in college, G in pros with some reps at C).
3rd string safeties Harrison and Langford also seem worthless but could be PS.
