Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

I know what's really going on...

The team isn't actually that bad.

Star-divide

You see, the Eagles and the FO were really tired of being heavily favored this year.  They know that if they fall one game short of the Superbowl expectation the city will hang them, so they divised a master plan.

#1. Pretend like all your starting lineman are hurt.  It's ok to leave one in so others don't suspect it's a ruse.

#2. Don't put too much pressure on the opposing team's quarterback, or else they will know you are powerful.

#3.  Give up long pass play's(from lack of communication) Don't want them to know how deep we are there.

#4. Have our #2 and #3 Tight Ends play down to Pop Warner level, giving a false sense of security to other teams.

#5. Have one flashy TD play so as not to give up our position.

#6. Pretend to be distrought after the loss and disappointed, icing on the cake.

#7. Talk up Rookies like they are gods, when in fact, they are just Rookies.

#8. Fake a rash of Knee injuries, including a season ending one or two.

#9. Tell our Line Backers not to be good in coverage, making every TE look like Witten.

If all works according to plan, we will not be the heavy favorites anymore and we will come out swinging in the regular season and shock the world!

So far, it's working PERFECTLY!

I all seriousnes, I think we'll be fine, but I was inspired.

hmmm, maybe theres something to it. And if that is the plan, I would commend them on marvelous execution, lol.

But for real, some people blow these exhibition games out of proportion. Does anyone believe Andy is gonna show people his “real” playbook in the preseason? Is McDermott going to show his regular season blitz package? Of course not. As Eagles fans, we hold our team to a higher standard than most other fans, so lackluster performance even in preseason is enough to stir it up.

So true

If the Eagles were to come out and fire on all cylinders and play to perfection now other teams would have more time to prepare.

eh

even without flashy plays/blitzes, the team should be able to run better, even without the starting o-line. the defense shouldn’t blow coverages to high heaven, and they should learn to tackle with their arms and bring the player to the ground, rather than throwing themselves at the legs of the opposition (i’m looking at you, hobbs). higher standard or not, last night was pitiful

While I know your post is exaggerated to be funny, I think it has some level of truth. I’ve seen Andy Reid go considerably out of his way to hide (Bradley ACL), disguise (Wildcat Rumors), or deny (Vick Signing) the truth in order to fool the enemy. I’m not suggesting that all of your points #1-9 are true, but Reid is very misleading, and almost paranoid when it comes to giving out information for other teams to use.

The team we have seen these last two preseason games is probably nothing like the team we will see week 1, besides roster cuts of course. Reid knows better than to show his hand to the rest of the NFL this early because it gives other teams more time to prepare. That’s probably why the Vick signing was denied up until the last moment – he wants opposing defensive coordinators to be as unprepared as possible.

Keep in mind..

The preseason heavily weighs in favorite on the offensive side of the ball. First string offenses rarely struggle in the preseason unless it’s for specific reasons. Last night it was because of our offensive line. Another example is the comparison between Kyle Orton and Jay Cutler in their first games, both of which were awful. They’re still developing chemistry with their new receivers and learning different offenses.

But nothing has changed for Peyton, or Tom Brady, you would expect them to perform well. And the Eagles probably would have done well had they had their offensive starters in, because the Colts secondary was doing a relatively poor job in coverage. There just wasn’t enough time to allow plays to develop, for the most part, because King Dunlap could not hold his side of the line (I still think Justice is performing pretty adequately though).
