Superbowl Or Bust For The Eagles

Philly fans are feeling froggy again. Their team just went to the NFC championship game again and they had a good draft, gave McNabb a raise, and all the other teams in their division have glaring holes. The optimism makes sense. Except for the fact that its the Eagles, the only team in the NFC East to not win a championship. I'm not saying they can't win, I just wouldn't bet on it. The Eagles are like the Jamaican bobsled team in Cool Runnings, they make great runs, get people all excited, but in the end they fall short.

So to all the Eagles fans, this is your year. Its going to be everything that you dreamed it would be. McNabb and Westbrook stay healthy all season, the receiving corps is actually respectable, and the rival Cowboys miss the playoffs because of a loss you give them. You make it all the way to the Superbowl and get a rematch against the Patriots. This time McNabb doesn't get tired, and you win, yes win a close game to capture your first title. It's all right there, can't you see it. But there's just one thing. Andy Reid is still the coach and as good as he is to get his team to the big games, he's just as bad to find a way to coach them to a loss. He's a notch below Marv Levy. The one obstacle the Eagles must overcome if they want to win it all, is the obsession with throwing the ball all the time. A balanced offensive attack will put the ball in their biggest playmaker's hand more frequently, and maybe, just maybe they win the big game this year.

The signing of Vick only adds to the pressure the team will have because there is an experienced back-up in case McNabb get hurt again. When you look around the NFC there are plenty of talented teams with glaring holes. Their division has teams with good defenses but questionable offenses. The signing of Brett Favre makes the Vikings formidable if he can play at a high level all season long and doesn't get hurt again. The Cardinals and Falcons were flukes last year and won't be so lucky. Sure a team will come out of nowhere and be good, but the Eagles have everything that is necessary to go all the way. There are no more excuses. Get it done or get out. Anything less than a Superbowl appearance should result in Andy Reid's firing. How many chances do you get to try to get it done with the talent the Eagles consistently have and come up short? Get it done or get out.

ANDY NOT GOIN ANYWHERE ANYTIME SOON

big red will be the coach until he decides to step down. lurie will never fire andy, he has to much faith in him for watever reason.
anyway jumping off the subject i want to say right now that the birds biggest obstacle in getting back to the SB will be the team in GREEN BAY. this is a very dangerous team thats kinda under the radar right now. take under consideration that AARON RODGERS in his first season as a starter threw for 25 tds i beleive. also noone wants to go to lambeu in january.

Sure you’re team has won a few SB, but talk about a laugh of a franchise. You have a coach that drops his trousers to get a point across…….Nice like you have room to talk.

We consistantly have a talented roster because Reid & Co. are good at drafting. How have the 49ers done? Alex Smith – garbage. Vernon Davis – done nothing yet but quit on your team! Only good player drafted in the past 10 years is your liinebacker Patrick Willis…..one guy in 10 years. Please carry on…..

really

you’re team is nothing more than a homeless man’s 90’s bills. I can talk trash b/c while my team is struggling now, I know they know what it takes to get it done. The Eagles clearly don’t and the only time they made it to the Superbowl they needed the help of an ex-49er to do it and T.O. was the best player on the field with a broken ankle. If you are ok with your coach that’s fine. I’m sure its fun to say your team is constantly the second best in the NFC

wrong

a lot of what you say in your post has been inaccurate.

A) the eagles did not need TO to make it to the superbowl. He was out the NFC championship game which had been the team’s achilles the previous seasons. and no, he did not get them that buy in the playoffs, because they had gotten it years prior as well.

B) that wasn’t the only time the eagles made it to the superbowl (see 1980)

C) your team isn’t struggling right now, they’ve been struggling since the team switched owners in 2000. since then, you have been to the playoffs twice, including zero times in the past six years. I don’t think your ownership knows what it takes to get it done.

D) the eagles pass only 5% more than the league average.

E) Vick isn’t the backup QB. He’ll likely be listed as the number two and come in if McNabb gets hurt, but the following week he’ll be the backup behind Kolb from the rumors I’ve heard.

F) Andy Reid has a higher winning percentage than Marv Levy. I know you’re probably referencing Marv getting to the super bowl more, but I don’t believe Andy is a notch below.

get ur facts -------

1st of all the 3 weeks the Eagles had off had a whole lot to do with them beating the Vikings with an injured Randy Moss and an inexperienced Falcon team to get to the Superbowl. They wouldn’t had that rest without T.O. helping them win 13 of 14 games before getting injured. The fact still remains that T.O. was the best Eagle on the field on 1 leg during the Superbowl. As for my team, I know they’ve sucked the past few years but I can do something you’ll never be able to. I can remember when my team won it all. I actually remember 3 of them.

You do realize how good the Eagles were the year prior without TO, correct?

And I could have sworn TO had both of his legs.

And passed Superbowls doesn’t equate to a franchise that knows what it takes to get it done. If the ownership and the gm, and the players all change, that’s a big difference.

reading comprehension
and no, he did not get them that buy in the playoffs, because they had gotten it years prior as well.

also…eagles were football champions in 48,49, and 60. My team won it all before, just not recently. Your team hasn’t won recently either. Not even close.

Just because you were in your mothers womb while she was watching the last time your team won a superbowl it does not count as a memory for you.

This is strange hearing other teams fans calling for the firing of our coach if he doesn’t win the big one.

reply or bash?

if what you said “made sense,” then why are so many people on here disagreeeing with you again?

by GreenInBaltimore on Aug 22, 2009 11:04 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

most people aren’t disagreeing with me they just don’t like the fact that a 49ers fan is calling out their coach. Are you honestly saying that a true Eagles fan doesn’t think that if the team doesn’t win the Superbowl with all the additions they made that heads shouldn’t roll?

Are you honestly saying that a true Eagles fan doesn’t think that if the team doesn’t win the Superbowl with all the additions they made that heads shouldn’t roll?

Yes.

The Eagles are given 11/1 odds to win the Super Bowl, 1 team out of 32 wins it … and the Eagles are in the toughest division in football.

If football playoffs were like baseball or basketball and there was a series I would put ever dollar I own on the Eagles winning. But sadly it’s 1 and done and football is a hell of a game. You know the saying “Any given Sunday …”

Do I think the Eagles should win the Super Bowl this year? Yes I think they should win it every year with McNabb under center. Do I think the Eagles are unbeatable? No but they have a good chance to win any game they are in.

not win a championship

we have won many a championship, just no superbowls (the signifiance of changing the name makes the Eagles look like a horrible franchise (to other teams fans))
