Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Where Are All Those Eagles Tickets?

I share two Eagles season tickets with my brother.  Our original plan was to exchange some tickets here and there so we could take our wives (both big Eagles fans) to a couple games a year.  Basically we did this to justify the initial cost of buying the PSLs to our wives.  Well three years have passed an neither one of us has been inclined to give up a game for the privilege of taking our wives to some future game.  You may think that's selfish of us but we just think of ourselves as good Eagles fans.  There's also the thirty guys we tailgate with, that might miss my buffalo shrimp and hoagie dip, to think of.

But I digress.  I figured, with all the sanctimonious and fair weather fans who were never going to a game again because of the Vick signing, that it would be a buyers market for Eagles PSLs.  With all the outraged online commenters, sports talk radio callers, and newspaper editorial writers that I would finally be able to placate my increasingly irritated wife and buy a couple more PSLs without the outrageous premiums they had been selling for.  First I tried ebay but I found nothing but the same old ticket brokers as always with their $10,000 to $20,000 per PSL pricing.  I was a little disappointed but I soldered on.  Next I tried Craigslist Philadelphia.  Only a couple listed and they were also highly priced.  Strangely all the ads on Craigslist were dated prior to the signing so I'm assuming the outraged don't like to take advantage of free classified ads.  Finally I went to the marketplace at philly.com.  Strangely again there was at least 4x as many ads looking for PSLs as there were ads selling PSLs and the ones that were for sale were outrageously priced.

Now I find myself wondering if all these so called exfans of the Eagles were ever fans at all.  I can't tell you how many people I heard claim they were going to give up their season tickets.  So I ask where are the tickets?  If any of the outraged are reading this I'm willing to go $5000 per PSL w/2009 tix.  That's about a $2000 profit on your investment that you can donate to PETA and recharge your self righteousness for the next two three years.

People talk crap but wont put the money where there mouth is

If you say you are an Eagles fan, and all you do is complain about the franchise, why even bother?

My sentiments exactly. I have been bleeding green since 1968 no matter who the owners, general managers, coaches or players were. Either you’re a true fan or not. Believe me in 40 years this team has broken my heart more than a few times and I haven’t always agreed with their decisions, Brian Dawkins for one. I am still waiting for my number to come up for season tickets. Fans have every right to voice their displeasure at the Vick signing but saying you are going to give up your tickets and stop being a fan because of a player that probably won’t be playing for the Eagles in a couple of years is showing you were not a true fan to begin with. Where are all you sanctimonious hypocrites at? I am ready to take your place.

Gonzo also handled it rather well on philly.com today.

The only people who say they are giving up their tickets are people who never had tickets in the first place

I may have been less than happy about the Vick signing, but giving up my season tickets never even crossed my mind.

Will anyone from BGN be going to the Eagles – Jaguars preseason game?

Sometimes it's just fun to take the family for a spin around the lake in the old boat. Even if it's not your family or your boat, and they're screaming for you to stop.

Thanks for all the recs brothers. Sorry about knocking you out Bye,Dawk but I’m sure you’ll return the favor someday.

Any of you guy have a suggestion that would help me convince my wife that going to a preseason is as good or better than a regular season game because she’s not buying it.

it's a limited time offer

some players out on the field won’t even be there come opening day…you can only see them in preseason they’re so special.

I have 3...

- There are a bunch of empty seats, so you can move down closer to the field.

- Two words… Adam DiMichele.

- Easy to get out of the parking lot after the game.

Flygirl

I love taking my wife to the games and to be honest I can usually finagle a ticket for her to two or three games a year from the guys I tailgate with. Also I’m not joking when I say I’m willing to spend 10 grand for two PSLs so we could go to all the games together. That being said there are some sacrifices involved in going to games with her. We have a guy in our group who’s a bit of a teetotaler and he’s our designated driver. he comes around in the morning and picks me up at the house and drops me off after the game. Well she refuses to ride down to the game in the back of his step van. So not only am I on the hook for driving back and forth from the game but it really throws a monkey wrench into that getting wasted thing I like to do. Two she is not an early riser we’re usually on the lot by 8:00 am but I’ve never been able to get down there before 11:30 with her. By that time I’ve missed out on some of the most outrageous breakfast sandwiches you’ve ever tasted and about 6-7 other courses of tailgate food not to mention that I only get an hour and a half of drinking time.

I'm not drunk I'm just drinking.

LOL – I totally understand the dilemma. Maybe an occasional piece of jewelry, bouquet of flowers with a card instead. :)
Where’s that hoagie dip recipe? Seriously – I’m dying to try it out!!!

Great post

Exactly what I’ve been thinking all along.

by boknows71 on Aug 20, 2009 5:00 PM EDT reply actions

Here's why there's no tickets...
Rich Thomaselli of Advertising Age reported this week that none of the Eagles’ 44 corporate sponsors backed out of their deals, and that fewer than 10 season-ticket holders cancelled their subscription in protest of the Vick signing.

Lot of talk, not alot of action.

Hoagie Dip

1lb Capicola Ham
1lb Genoa Salami
1lb Provolone / American Cheese
1 Bermuda Onion
1 Head Iceberg Lettuce
Mayonnaise / Oil and Vinegar

Dice Lunch meat and cheese into about 1/4 inch square pieces mix with mayo or oil and vinegar to taste. Immediately before serving mix in diced onion and shredded lettuce. Best served on 1/4 inch slices of a small diameter baggett. (Jeff Lurie gave me that one) Some people like tomato but I think it makes the whole concoction mushy and runny. Make only as much as your going to eat that day. The lettuce gets wilted and the dip gets overpowered by the onion by the next day

I'm not drunk I'm just drinking.
