Over the past few days, we have all been pouring our hearts out about the Vick signing. When I first heard -- a drunken friend called me on Thursday evening -- I was devastated. (As devastated as I can be, that is, by a piece of news that A) does not involve divorce or death and B) does not involve anyone I know personally.) I posted an angry rant here on BGN. I was attacked by some, supported by others. I attacked a couple of other writers, and praised a few. Additionally, the subject is all my friends and I are talking about. it is a freaking calamity. But I just noticed something...just now, in fact: slowly, we are starting to talk to each other not at each other. The vitriol is dissipating. We are drifting slowly toward the middle, where we all get along. Where we remember that we all love the same goddamn Eagles, and always have...win or lose. Where, let's face it, we all want to be.
I still believe that signing Vick is a bad idea, both for the 2009 Eagles and for the organization as a whole. But I also believe -- I see now -- that we all bleed green. And maybe, in the end, that will prove to be more important than a certain move that the front office made in the summer of 2009.
Thanks to all.
