The Vick situation
Ok, here it is. This story has dominated the news since it broke, and there is no sign of it ending anytime soon.
Now I've been pretty vocal against the reinstatement of Mike Vick:
There is about 20 comments condemning him to the AFL and what not.
I've come to this, he is here, I wasn't asked for my input, I don't run the team I just root for them. I had to ask myself, is this something I hate enough to, as I put it, "find a new team"
I say ban him for life! It’s about whether his actions were egregious enough to deserve a lifetime ban from the NFL.If the dog fighting thing was his first fuck up, I’d say, do your time and get on with it, but this jerk off has already had like 5 "2nd" chances. At what point do you say enough is enough and cut ties. It drives me CRAZY when assholes like this, who are afforded every opportunity in life just don’t get it. He looks at his job in the NFL as a RIGHT not a privilege.
Maybe it’s because I got laid off and am out of work that I’m so bitter about this guy but man, if I got a job making anywhere near what he made, I’d be afraid of leaving the house so I didn’t fuck that up. This asshole just screws up over and over again and doesn’t even consider the fact that there could be long term repercussions for his actions, because there never are any.
He wasn’t that good of a QB to begin with, more like a glorified RB. Seriously, if the Eagles took him on, I’d have to find a new team. Let him go make $50/week in the Arena league to see how good he had it.

I'm not ready to eat my words just yet, but I am at least willing to give him a chance now.
The other day Preston and Steve were talking about it and asked what would it take for Mike Vick to redeem himself and the answer was find Bin Laden. At the time that didn't sound too unreasonable. Now that I've had time to digest it all, I've come to peace with it. If he is able to redeem himself, both on and off the field, I think I'd be pretty happy my team paved the way for that. I also like that Jeffrey Lurie made it clear that was pretty much the condition of his contract.
Kinda peculiar that he ended his career in the same place that its getting reborn...
I'm not ready to go root for the guy yet, but I have to admit, I am kind of anxious to SEE what he can do and quit talking about it.

i agree with you. I was in the same boat…while I would never renounce the eagles, I did (and to a large extent, still do) think that michael vick is a POS. However, since the eagles signed him, I looked at the situation again and looked at what he’s saying and who’s vouching for him and decided maybe he actually has changed. But, like you, I want to see him actually do this Humane Society stuff and continue to do it long after his reputation and bank account are back to where they were.
Also, it will be interesting to see if he’s half the player he once was. Here’s to hoping he’ll get back to full strength and build a new, more productive, life on the field and off.
I hear ya
Jeffrey Lurie set some pretty high expectations for off-field behavior in his press conference, I want to see him live up to it fully. You are right, lets see if it loses its luster, when and if he gets his life back.
Before he came here, I wanted to see nothing but the worst for him, but like or not, he is part of the family now. Its up to him from here on out how people perceive him. I’m willing to give him a very skeptical shot.

The Eagles know what they are doing
I know sometimes we like to complain about Andy Reid and his ‘way’ of running the team. Its frustrating when he evades questions and sometimes mismanages the last few seconds of a game but for the most part you can’t argue with the results. He and the front office have earned the benefit of the doubt. Therefore, I trust that the guys have done their homework and in their best estimation Michael is on the right path.
I hate what Vick took part in but people can change and if, as you mention, the Eagles can play a part in the resurrection and help teach the man the real way to play the quarterback position we could be looking at one of the biggest 180’s in sports. I applaud the Eagles for taking a chance. They have always been an organization that defined the right way to do things in the NFL and I see no reason why this situation can not be another chapter of that story.

Nom Nom Nom
I love crow! :)
I am sooo glad that before all this went down, I was convincing people that whatever happened to him in the future was none of my business to decide. I am not entitled nor do I wish to have the power to say what is best for someone elses’ life. Plus if you asked all them dumb PETA protesters how many conferences are in the NFL they would look at you cross eyed, but they know for sure he shouldn’t play in the NFL and should be flipping burgers. Hippocrites.

Sometimes, if I’m in a public place where PETA has set up shop, I’ll stand near them and talk very loudly with a friend about how much I love eating veal. It’s fun watching them squirm.
About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.
