PFT swings and misses on McNabb/Vick
Here is the report pro football talk posted minutes before Donovan McNabb had his post game press conference.
According to a league source with intimate knowledge of the dynamics within the organization, McNabb isn't pleased with the development.
Here is what Donovan McNabb said to open his press conference
I pretty much lobbied to get him here.
He re-iterated how he'd been talking with Vick for the past few weeks and that he communicated with Andy a number of times lobbying for the Eagles to sign Vick. He said how he's known Vick since he was in high school and that he's been a mentor to him for several years.
McNabb says that Vick saw him as "a guy that was willing to stick his neck out for him."

Great press conference btw.

Vick signing
First of all, I am one happy Virginia resident right now! I am so happy and overjoyed when I heard the news on Vick. I can’t wait to buy a Vick jersey. My son had one when he was with the Falcons but he outgrew it. I have been hooping and hollering for Vick ever since he was sentenced and I am so glad that others out there feel that he definitely deserves a second chance. It is still so amazing to me that people are dying, starving, children are getting molested and they get lighter sentences. You go Vick and you have plenty of people that are behind you… PETA can kick rocks!!
Hahahaha...
PFT post have to be approved by the posted before they appear. I’m thinking we see that entry by Florio disappear.
Bye, Big Stew and JJ :(

LOL Florio
I’m not an Eagles fan, but I’m happy to see Vick sign with them. McNabb is a perfect mentor for him.
sooo...
we now have 4 nfl quarterbacks… mcnabb is the starter, vick is now here, kolb is the heir apparent, and feeley just three for 200+ and a td in 2.5 quarters. what do we do.
I don't think four is too many
I just watched Vick highlights on youtube. I’m so pumped!

I think we probably end up keeping all of them. Vick is a utility player and won’t be on our depth chart as a QB. I think Feeley is a better throwing QB and Reid would probably rather have him in there full time than Vick. I could be totally wrong and we see him gone or Kolb shipped out, though.
I am the people's troll :3™
but why would we keep four?
mcnabb will (hopefully) take 98% of the snaps this year, vick will take a utility role from time to time, and the other two will sit and collect dust. none of this makes sense.
When he is reinstated, Vick will not be our second QB. If I’m wrong about this and he is our second QB, Kolb will be gone. I seriously doubt Reid is going to give up on Kolb. Vick can’t be the third QB, because the third QB isn’t on active roster, and there’s rules regarding what happens when you put your third QB in. My best guess is he will officially be re-positioned as a running back, albeit one who throws better than most RBs (and hell, probably runs better than most)

Maybe Feeley goes
but I think that some NFL teams acctually carry 4 QBs to start the season. Do you think we could get another 2nd for Feeley? That would be great! We could keep trading him for something and re-signing him for nothing. I like that cycle.

Bingo. He was so hoping and praying McNabb would hate this, so he jumped on the story when he heard it without trying to really confirm it is my guess.
And now he’s trying to take the “If you think McNabb isn’t lying about being okay about it, you’re naiive”
…dude can’t just admit that he was wrong.
Also, the anti-Eagles sentiment in the PFT comments section disgusts me. The Vick hate (or Eagles hate masked as Vick hate) really makes those jerkoffs’ true colors shine through.

Vick on the Eagles
As a dog lover, there was a time when I thought Vick should be banned from pro football. But after relecting on his sentence and him have served his time, I think now that he does deserve a second chance. If drug users who get lesser penalties get a second chance, why not Vice. Plus the Eagles organization is the best for him to be with. From top…the owner…to bottom, this organization is one of the best. They care about their players and the players play hard for the team. Andy Reid is the perfect coach for him also. After hearing Andy speak at the press conference and give his reasoning and comparing it to his experience with his sons, you can’t have a better role model for Vick. Plus having Donovan McNabb as a mentor is just another plus. Knowing that McNabb lobbied to get Vick, that says something about Donovan as a man, as a role model. My hat goes off to the Eagles organization, and I wish Vick to do well, Gooooooo Eagles.
don't be naive.
if Florio stands by what he writes, it’s correct most of the time. he may be an ass, but he has more inside info than anyone else.
you all should be questioning what Donovan said in the post game interview.
All the shit that McNabb is saying, which is what he’s supposed to say. but does that really mean he’s telling the truth?
Here’s Barrett Brooks take on the situation:
“McNabb is being a pro,” Brooks said (via Gill), “but this makes him have to put up or shut up. He has no comfort in being the Eagles quarterback, if he messes up one time the whole city will be calling for Vick. Point blank.”

A few things ...
… I respect your opinion that McNabb is full of crap and hates this move, but it’s too easy to insert “controversy” where there is none. I don’t buy it.
1. McNabb often does play the party line, but we Philly fans have heard his QBspeak for 10 years now. You can tell when he’s being genuine, and “I pretty much lobbied to get him here” is not something he had to say. The company line is more like “I’m fine with whatever helps us win.”
2. The whole city is not even on board with the Vick move. No way we’ll be calling for Vick to replace Donovan. This is his team more than ever, and nothing that anyone has said in the whole adding Vick episode has seemed to challenge that.
3. Andy, Joe & Jeff Lurie have made it very clear over the years that it doesn’t matter what the whole city is calling for. As long as Donovan is Andy’s guy, that’s pretty much all that matters.
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
Also, the item itself ...
… tries way to hard to get into McNabb’s head. Like he’s spoken out in support of him before, so now he’s painted into a corner and can’t speak out against the signing, so he’ll just stew silently.
Or maybe he’s spoken out in support of Vick because he genuinely likes the guy and actually did lobby to get him here. Nah, that’s way too easy!
I don’t think Florio even believes everything Florio writes. Rumor mill = dumpster for everything that maybe might sorta be possible.
Did you see some of his stretches on the McNair case? Like maybe it was a big conspiracy put together by the DUI arresting officer?
