Taking Stock of Eagles Training Camp: Aug 9th
Only three days of practice remain before the Eagles launch their preseason against the New England Patriots. The state of the final roster is starting to look clearer as players find their places on the team. Still, for some, the position battles won't stop until the last preseason game is over. A lot of opportunities are still to be had. Here is a brief rundown of who's stock is on the rise and who's stock is falling.
Stock on the Rise:
Leonard Weaver- Weaver showed off his brilliant receiving skills again today, performing well in linebacker coverage drills. He also impressed during blitz pickup drills, bowling over Omar Gaither and Quintin Mikell. And, as if that wasn't enough, rumor has it that Weaver will be seeing snaps at tight end, a position he played in college. Weaver is quickly becoming an integral part of the Eagles' offense.
LeSean McCoy- McCoy has come a long way in developing his blocking skills, so much so that he is now slated to be the lead blocker on kickoff returns. He has displayed a fantastic work ethic so far, especially since he was not asked to do any blocking at Pitt.
Joe Mays- While Mays is known for his run-stopping ability, the young linebacker shined the most today in pass coverage drills. He roamed all over the field, smashing down Lorenzo Booker and Kyle Eckel before they could pass the line of scrimmage. Mays was rewarded for his above-average training camp performance with the starting MLB position on the preseason roster, which should give him many more opportunities to impress the coaches.
Hank Baskett- Baskett continued to prove his worth today as a situational receiver. Because of his 6'4" height, Baskett was the favored target in the Hail Mary plays, and made several big catches. There have also been rumblings of the reciever getting a few reps in as a backup tight end.
Stock Falling:
Tank Daniels- Daniels looked awful in practice, getting beaten by Marcus Mailei during coverage practice and embarrased by Eldra Buckley in blitz pickup drills. According to the preseason depth chart, rookie Moise Fokou has already beaten Daniels for the backup linebacker position. Looks like Daniels' days as an Eagle are numbered.
Todd Herremans- Herremans sat out this morning's practice with a swollen knee. While the injury isn't too serious, the last thing the Eagles need is another injured starter on the offensive line. Hopefully, Herremans will bounce back soon and be on the field again by Tuesday.

I had no idea
Weaver played TE in college. Not that I want him to play TE, but I think he could create some match up problems for opposing D’s who see him go from fullback to TE before the snap. With that said, I’d still rather see the Iggles go out and get a legit backup TE to maintain the depth at that position. I’d like to see the Eagles be smart with the first true fullback they’ve had in years… keep him healthy and fresh.
Again, thank you, Outtake24, for the daily training camp updates!
Lesean McCoy
is really impressing me. I didnt really think highly of him at first, but hes really gotten on my good side. the thing “experts” knocked him for was his blitz pick up, and now he improved it.
RIP Jim Johnson. You will truly be missed.
Did Desean Jackson practice at all? Any visible effects of the hyper-extended knee?
"If they end up 2-14 and both of those wins came against Dallas, that's a pretty good year."
He practiced last night, he’s fine.
