can we take a collection to buy this guy a PS3. Can he just buy the accuser

a new xbox, throw in a game of Madden and a second controller. All should be even, why take that to court? That silly.

I hate this whole black thing and QBs

It’s stupid as hell, and has hints of racism in it. When whites play basketball there or Wide Receiver there is no hoopla (and there shouldn’t be)

Very, Very, very true.

Why can’t QBs be accepted as a QB. Not a Black QB, No body calls Brady a White QB. Or will they call Sanchez a Latino QB? Its stupid to stereotype people that way.

At least I think now since there are so many QBs that are black, there is no more stereo type.

Funny thing is, everyone seems to think every white WR is Wes Welker now. And everybody expects all white basketball players to be good from the 3 pt range, and they can’t dunk.

Those are some silly stereo types. Can’t we all just get along.

I get that, but it is a fact that aside from the past few years there really haven’t been many black QBs. In a sport where most of the league is black not that many guys played arguably the most important position on the field. I think it is worth noting, although maybe not quite as much it used to be.

And, they’re already calling Sanchez a latino QB.

by JasonB on Jul 7, 2009 2:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

great arguement. I think other than Warren Moon, many there just weren't

many black QBs. I can’t even name you 10 before 2000 off the top of my head. Other than Randal, Rodney Peete, Andre Ware. I can’t name you many another black QBs pre McNabb. Now the league has a very fair amount of black QBs.

OK.

Well there arent a lot of white WRs…so whats your point? It’s just another way to make racial barriers larger.

by Joe_D on Jul 7, 2009 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

There used to be. Most all the WRs where white at one time. That’s the point. There were pretty much never black QBs until around a decade ago. That’s just a fact. I don’t think pointing it out makes racial barriers larger. In fact, pointing out how much changed illustrates how those barriers have really come down.

by JasonB on Jul 7, 2009 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Come down how?

Every time blacks accomplish something it has to get pointed out and celebrated. That’s not looking at a colorless world to me. Gocong is one of the very few players with Asian decent, yet there isn’t any huge deal about that. Celebrating just one races accomplishments isn’t knocking a barrier down at all.

by Joe_D on Jul 7, 2009 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Everything is in proportion. You know it was a big deal when guys like Ichiro and Yao became stars. The fact that they were Asian absolutely was part of that story.

by JasonB on Jul 7, 2009 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes

It was.

Here’s my point. If you want to have no barriers, don’t have any barriers. Clapping your hands every time a black person accomplishes something recognizes there’s a difference/stereotype and a barrier. What happened to recognizing things that are good? Instead of Dungy being a good coach and leading his team to a SB victory they had to bring in race…. Why? IMO that says “It’s amazing Dungy won, because previously, black coaches weren’t able to do it.” Instead of “You’re a good coach, anyone can do great things.”

Great point, I think Jason makes a good point as well.

I think stating that there is change now in the QB position is true, because its a statistic. But Joe is also correct that, it shouldn’t be a measured statistic.

I guess the world we live in created this monster. Thats probrably why when we apply for BGN memberships, no where does it ask for our race. In some places, race is not somthing you earn, its something you are born with, not something to be punished for or celebrated.

But like Jason said, in the world we live in, in a country that created barriers, they appear to be disolving. Thats a great thing.

But Joe is correct to, we shouldn’t clap our hands everytime black people accomplish things. If we don’t applaud things that italians or chinese people do, we really shouldn’t for blacks. Its seems like we are giving out an A for effort to that the little kid in the third grade, just because he tried hard. No body wants pitty prizes.

I wish race wasn’t a factor, and I think it wont be in the near future, but all that said, McNair was definately an important player in the NFL, who happened to be a blackman playing QB. But the truth be told, if we were white, would his impact on the game be as recongizeable? He was great, but when you consider, he represented a new era of equality in the way that most people viewed a black QB. Its unfortunate that it was needed, but he proved that not all black QBs are scramblers who can’t read defenses.

Hopefully our children won’t have to talk about race when they refer to players, it will just be about accomplishments because sports appears to be so diversed now. I think we are slowly gettin there.

Nicely put

The only thing I could add is that if McNair got in the HOF just because he was a black qb I would lose all respect for the HOF…Not that I give a crap about it anyway.

I don't think he is a HOF qb. Was he better than McNabb?

Is McNabb a HOF yet? I’m not making the comparison because they are both black, but because the stylse are similar, and so are accomplishments. Although McNabb has a strong playoff resume. One of the best in history, he aslo has come historically short in big games.

THe difference is that white guys have been playing basketball and WR since the leagues began.

by JasonB on Jul 7, 2009 2:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, but you can can blame the lack of integration on that one. many leagues wouldn’t even allow african americans to play until the 40’s.

by awd777 on Jul 7, 2009 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe black people aren't as good at QB as whites

Clearly, whites aren’t as good as the speed positions. Maybe blacks are not as good at the QB position…or is that a racist thought?

To be honest with you, even the decent black QBs in this league, their biggest problem was reading defenses.

Culpepper couldnt read them (his bloated stats were when all he had to do was lay it up to Moss), Cunningham wasn’t great at it, Russell hasn’t shown anything yet, and Vick was hardly a QB. Only a few of those black QBs were good QBs (moon, mcnabb, mcnair, etc)

More than anything it stemmed from those attitudes in college.

McNabb himself has said that he turned down a bunch of big football schools because Syracuse was the only one that was willing to offer him the chance to run a pro style offense.

by JasonB on Jul 7, 2009 6:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mcnabb also stated

That he had to do something extra special in order to get recognized as a good QB because he’s black — which was a pile of poo.

If you’re a college team that makes MILLIONS off the performance of your team you’re going to recruit talent no matter what the race is. I c ould totally see why certain teams wouldnt want to take a gamble on Mcnabb. Obviously they were wrong, but the concerns are there.

How do you know that? He lived it, you didn’t.

Might he be paranoid and felt pressures that weren’t there? Possibly, but only he knows that. You or I sure don’t.

by JasonB on Jul 7, 2009 7:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's BS

Even if the pressures are there im tired of the “I’m the victim” attitude. I bet there are white/asian/spanish players that will get the ‘he must be slow’ stereotype but that doesnt mean they should come out and whine about it. I do know that much.

It kinda justifies McNabbs non willingness to run the ball anymore.

I think David Garrard is a decent QB who doesn’t scramble. Granted, he isn’t great.

Heck, Steve Young was a great scrambling QB, and he was white. Elway was very mobile, and he was white as well.

Oh, Randall. The things you might have done with a real line and a coach who cared at all about offensive football.

by Tracer Bullet on Jul 7, 2009 1:47 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It could have been so great

See Minnesota 1998 and apply that offense philosophy and execution to the Eagles teams between 1986 and 1996. You don’t even have to change one of the WRs!

sigh At least we’ll always have your amazing scrambling highlights on Youtube. There will never be a more exciting player in the NFL as far as I’m concerned.

by slackerjoe on Jul 7, 2009 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

In fairness...

Chris Carter and Randy Moss (Randall’s targets in 1998) are Hall of Famers. Throw in another talented WR, Jake Reed, and it’s pretty much night and day compared to Freddy Barnett and Calvin Williams.

by Bye, Dawk :( on Jul 7, 2009 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, but that was before Carter became as good as he did.
