Homer poll
The post about Your 2nd favorite team got me thinking. Since most of you guys say you don't have a 2nd favorite team, I'm wondering what you do when the Birds aren't in it. We've had a pretty good decade going here, with 2005 and 2007 being the only years we didn't make a playoff appearance.
Obviously, we all want the Birds to go all the way, and honestly, I haven't felt this good about our chances since 2004. What I'm wondering is, historically, who do you guys find yourself rooting for after the Birds were out?
My thought process is, once the Birds are out, I usually go for whoever has the AFC birth. The last 2 years, I've had this same argument with one of my old bosses (also an Eagles fan). He says staying loyal with the NFC is like rooting for the home team. I disagree, to me it seems more like rooting for the team that ended my run.
Last year was especially bitter I thought. I mean really, the Cardinals??? WTF!!!!! Honestly, the year before, most of Arizona didn't even know they had a football team, now all the sudden they get good and people think they deserve it. F that, let those bunch'a fairweather fans wait like the rest of the world.
Anyway, the point of this was to get a feel for who you guys rooted in past playoff/Superbowls.

If/When the Birds are eliminated
… it’s hockey season. I don’t watch the NFL until the Super Bowl.
Caveat: All regular season Eagles games are required watching even if they are not in contention for the playoffs.

i'm with you...
AFC team (since the NFC team has knocked out the eagles one game short half the time).
Only exception was when I cheered for the giants (gross) to beat the Pats and stop their undefeated season. Then i felt dirty all over.
Under NO circumstances
could I ever find myself rooting for any other team in the NFC East.

Lesser of 2 Evils
I cheered for a 1 loss NE Pats season too.. oh how funny it was.. win all the inconsequential games, and lose only 1. Cheating man Beel Beelsachick and those Pats are on same level in my book as one of those other NFC East teams.. can’t stand them equally. Now while I can’t condone cheering for the Gints.. I allowed myself to cheer for a Pats loss.. and I was happy, I really enjoyed the moment… NY winning was really just a side note, since they weren’t playing the Eagles.. it didn’t matter.
I'm with you man
I could care less if The Pats had won it all. I don’t have to hear asshole Pats fans rubbing my nose in their rings. Fuck the jit’s fuck them in their stupid asses

but we all know that wish did not come true…

who would you rather throw a rock at?
tom brady? eli manning? granted, it’s close……i’ll take tom brady.(even though i would love to wipe that stupid look off eli’s face with a rock.)
In the NE vs. NYG superbowl
I cheered for a tie or a hurrricane, tornado, earthquake the patriots to not go undefeated, the giants to lose, for the pizzato get here, and for many other things, but I never rooted for the Giants, just against the Patriots (i wore my Eagles Jersey to a Giants superbowl party, I was hoping I wouldn’t die if they lost)

i cheered for the giants as well....
besides the cowboys, i hate the new england patriots. tom brady makes me sick to my stomach.
God
Remember the Eagles game against the Patriots that year? We were so CLOSE. I had bet $50 against a friend for an Eagles win that week. Obviously, he took the bet. I thought I had made some easy money until that last interception (I believe it was Asante who made the pick).
Yea.
I was rooting for Giants too. Going to school at Syracuse I had plenty of Giants fans to deal with, but Boston fans are worse. It might seem hard to believe, but the thought of dealing with NE fans having the best team in the history of the sport was a completely unappealing notion. I justified it by saying that a) NE was truly evil that year and b) I am from New Orleans just like Eli Manning…(weak I know but I had to find something to make me feel better).
Eli Manning should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell. Would you like a cookie, son?

it depends who is in i
this year i actually cheered for the cardinals cause i live in Cleveland and hate the steelers as much as the cowboys. but usually i cheer for the AFC team. i did cheer for the giants just because that season was all about the cowboys and patriots and i was happy to see the perfection ruined.
i had to take a long shower to clean myself after cheering for the giants tho
Anti-Steelers
Every damn season the Steelers are in the playoffs, and I just can’t stand them. I root against them. All my friends are Steelers fans as well as my family.
Whoever plays the Steelers, when the Eagles aren’t in it.
same here
I wanted the Cards to win bc my stepdad was talkin shit n if the cards wouldve won I could say yall bitchz couldnt beat em either lol

My order of teams that I root for:
I’ll root for teams in this order
1. Eagles!
2. I have a healthy respect for Baltimore
3. Colts? Rams? Seahawks?
indifferent towards most teams
28. Patriots
29. Redskins
30. Giants
31. Steelers (It’s a central PA thing) followed closely by
32. Cowboys

Usually root for someone else during the playoffs (if the Ragles dont make it)
I have rooted for
Wikings and Falcons.
But when I root for someone in the AFC its Jets and Ravens (and mabye Bills now..if you catch my drift)
If the birds are out, then I am indifferent, to a point. If the Cowboys or Giants are still in it, then I will actively root against them (I don’t know why, I have never considered the Redskins in the same vein as the ’boys or the ’jints, as far as being a hated rival goes). Otherwise, I really could care less.
wont vote
im Irish so obviously im stubborn … if the Eagles are out so am i … i will watch Superbowl because its 2 great teams battling it out but i wont hesitate to go refill my plate with snacks regardless of whats going on in the game

I actually cheer for close games and big comebacks. I have caught myself cheering for both teams throughout a game, just so that it was interesting and close. If the Eagles are out, I simply cheer for a close game OR a major underdog.

+1 on Comebacks
When the teams don’t matter, I do find myself cheering for the underdog and comebacks often. Always fun to see someone’s party get ruined.
lmao

if the eagles are out
then football games are just another excuse to drink, eat nachos, and chill with friends
not that an excuse is really needed, but it helps

I voted NFC
I like to think that the only team that can beat the Eagles is the one that will win it all. I don’t follow it very well though since I rooted for Steelers this year (same reasoning- f*** fairweather fans).
Thats usually the reasoning I use
to cheer myself up if the NFC team wins.

You really can't put Steeler fans and "Cardinal fans" in the same boat tho cuz
I mean, you always get your kooks coming out of the woodworks with their flags and hats come super bowl time. Made me sick the year before the influx of Vagiants paraphernalia I encountered.
Just like how its gonna be flooded with Eagles stuff this year :)
Anyway, I’ve always seen sporadic Steelers, Giants, NE fans here and there. Not once have I ever seen a Cardinals flag or sticker until the bowl. I mean, jeez, they couldn’t even sell out a wild card game…their 1st one in a decade. Disgraceful. People can say what they will about Philly fans, but one thing is always true…WE SHOW UP.

I think another relevant question is...
What item in your apartment/house is the fall guy for the last Eagles loss? Obviously, something needs to be thrown at a high speed at something else. The logical fall guy is the remote control. I was very tame this year – I threw a mug into the back yard at the end of the first half against the Cardinals. Actually, it went into the neighbor’s yard behind us – It was quite a throw.
The year the Bucs beat us, I was holding those silver stress balls in my hand and one of them was almost thrown at the TV on the Ronde Barber interception, but thankfully, I double clutched and put a nice stress-ball sized hole in the wall instead. Kind of ironic that a “stress ball” would be used in such a way.
It depends
I rooted for the Steelers because we lost to the Cardinals and I was mad
Sadly, I rooted for the Giants because I didn’t want the Pats to have a perfect season and I wanted Strahan to win the ring(because he’s the only Giant I respect).
The Bears because they beat the Saints who beat us and because I use to hate Peyton.
Strange reasoning.
