Your Second Favorite Team

Since this is one of the slowest times of the offseason, it's fun to stir up conversation. So who's your second favorite team? And c'mon, do say that the Eagles are your only favorite team. Granted, this team is the best (in our eyes) and this should be the team to root for. But there has to be someone else you root for, even if it's for a little bit. Here's mine

5899-2_medium

The have a defence that reminds me of the green and a RB that can (and probably be better than) West. But of course the Eagles come first (ESPECIALLY IN THE PLAYOFFS)

(Add on as of Sunday July 05, 2009)

Who is your favorite non-eagle? The loss of Steve McNair has reminded me why I love football. He's one of the reasons I started to watch. Always would pick him in Madden. He is my favorite non eagle. (Imagine him as an Eagle.)

"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

actually

my favorite team is the jaguars. i grew up rooting for the eagles but born and raised in jacksonville, so they are my number one team. we had a tough year last year, but i’m also a florida gator season ticket holder, and went to the SEC championship and national championship games, so that made up for it.

In just football or all sports?

Well…Favorite football teams are 1. Eagles(duh) 2. Carolina Panthers. First game of the season is on my 20th birthday and my fav two teams face off. Cant get a better opener than that. I like the Panthers cuz of my best friend being from NC and a Panthers fan and also Steve Smith is my favorite receiver in the NFL. If the Panthers had a decent QB, that team would be extremely hard to beat with that running game and 1/2 man 1/2 amazing.
I predict final score 26-17 Eagles for the opener.

Overall favorite teams: E-A-G-L-E-S, Phillies, Sixers, Manchester United, Panthers.

Living in New York

I’ve developed a decent respect for the Jets. Their fans remind me a lot of us compared to those tame, fairweather, bandwagon Giants fans.

But I can’t say they’re my 2nd favorite team.

There are the Eagles as my favorite, and then everyone else. One team may interest me slightly more than another for an arbitrary reason, but I don’t have any rank of ‘favorites’, I have one favorite.

From my perspective, i cannot see this at all
fairweather, bandwagon Giants fans.

Living in upstate NY, between Lake Ontario and the Adirondacks, it’s a pretty rural area. The probability of people liking the Bills, Giants or the Jets would seem high? That’s the furthest from the truth. Within a 30 mile radius of where i live, i know people that are fans of:

Bears
Bills
Chiefs
Cowboys
Dolphins
Giants
Jets
Packers
Patriots
Raiders
Rams
Redskins
Vikings

This is a pretty diverse list of teams coming from this area. These people were born here and are my age or older, and they have never swayed from their favorites. It’s the younger generation that gives the solid core of fans a bad rep. As far as i’m concern, i am a Giants fan, and someone wants to be a Giants fan, so be it. But, your going to be a fan through thick and thin. If not, move along!

by Hootman on Jul 3, 2009 9:18 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Funny about those rural areas

I grew up in a town of 2000 people in CT on the RI border. Most people were New York transplants, but you had some Boston influence too and just a whole lot of New England…anyway, being so far from any major sports team nobody was really a die hard fan of anything…you really had a quiet mix similar to what you describe…since you could never get out and actually see the game, no one got excited for anything…it wasn’t until I went to college in Philly that I grew to really love a sports team.

I’m in Staten Island now and I can say that things are split probably 50% for Giants 40% for Jets and that random, yet unshakable 5% for Cowboys and then 5% for everything else. And yes, Giants fans are WAY tamer than Jets fans.

During the playoffs, as we stuffed Eli’s 4th down run attempt, I stood on the bar and sang the Eagles fight song and I’m still here to talk about it. That would never happen in Philly.

i don’t have a second favorite team to be honest… however, i do have have most hated teams: 1. cowboys 2. giants 3. patriots 4. redskins etc. basically, if i’m watching a game without the eagles, i’m rooting for the team i hate the least. also, if it’s an obscure game like say detroit vs. kansas city (both are teams i can care less about), i’ll root for the team with the most ties to the eagles. so, i’d pick kansas city for having vermiel and edwards as recent coaches. having said all that, those are only one-game deals. i would never cheer for those teams in the grand scheme of the sport. i’m a philly guy all the way.

The only other team I will root for if it is not the Eagles or a team playing or division rivals are the Steelers. My Uncles who I have a close relationship with like them and I usually root for teams that my family root for. The only team that I root for that no one else in my family has before is the Oregon Ducks since I have lived here most of my life.

vick was the most exciting player in the league so i loved watching falcons games (unless they were playing the eagles.) i guess i was more of a vick fan than falcons, but thats the closest ive been to a second favorite team.

For some reason...

I used to like the Dolphins a lot when I was a kid. I’d pick them in old video games, had a Dolphins hat, etc etc. I can’t even say that it was because of Marino since I only really started paying attention to players names and such at the tail end of his career. It’s cool since they are in the AFC so there’s barely any conflict with the birds and they also play in a division with the Patriots who i distaste due to obvious reasons (primarily due to fairweather fans who tried to shove down their success down my throat and then disappeared after their last super bowl).

My uncle’s second team is the Raiders which I find weird because when he grew up the Steelers and Raiders were rivals. He grew up in California but I still don’t think that is a good excuse because if I grew up in Texas, New York, or Washington there would be no way in hell that one of those teams would be my second team behind my Eagles

I loooove my Iggles. Don’t need any questions asked. But second is the Raiders. I think their fans are similar to us, and I have some strange admiration for Al Davis’s group of hated men in black. The whole world hates the Raiders, particularly ESPN, and for the most part, the world has hated on the Birds. It’s also nice to root for a team that has a fan base of our nature even though the team isn’t a powerhouse because it reminds me of how lucky we are to enjoy the Eagles go out every Sunday and win.

i hate the raiders and their loser fans. “HEY MAN!!! lets put SPIKES on our fake SHOULDER pads, name ourselves ZORLOCK, STAB a few people then JERK eachother off!!! YYEEAAAA!!!!”

No thanks.

My second fave…. Chiefs. The place i go to watch the eagles (in MT) has always got a huge group of chiefs fans. They were there every sunday last season, cheered louder than anyone, and always went home upset. I felt bad, but also gained some respect for them. So secretly i was rooting for them inside. Also, my dad lives in KC and it’s pretty cool town. However, EAGLES ALL THE WAY BABY!!!

This is going to come out a touch off

but historically my second favorite football team has been the Gints.
Don’t kick me out please…
I lived in Hunterdon County NJ and didn’t have cable, on Sunday the antenna would point to whichever team was playing at the time/on at the time. The birds were blacked out alot back then b/c the games didn’t sell out too much.
Couple that with being able to yell, “Wide Left!!!!!!” in a room full of Buffalo Bills fans and – Historically the G-Men come in at number 2.
Eli has since fixed that…

But if you had a super-hot mother-in-law? Unnatural, yes but I’d have to see the mother-in-law to make an accurate ruling on that one.

The Ravens as of Last year....

Nice to see some Philly connections finding success in the AFC. Yes i live in Baltimore, and yes i sometimes like when the Ravens lose and the Eagles win….BUT overall, with Harbaugh, Montgomery and Flacco in Balt, its hard not to root for them. My brother went to UD and grew up an Eagles Fan. Harbaugh has always been one of my favorites…..and WM was amazing.

by GreenInBaltimore on Jul 3, 2009 8:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Originally, I thought that was an atrocious question but now that I think about it, every Eagles fan should be a fan of anyone who is playing the Cowboys, Redskins, and NYG but if you like another team, it better be in the AFC. I root for other players, but not other teams. For instance, Lee Evans was my favorite college player ever when he played at Wisconsin, so he is my favorite non-Eagle, so if I had to pick it might be the Bills. Either way, other conference if anything for any teams fan.
