Taking Stock of Training Camp: Day 3
Today marked the final practice for rookies and selected veterans before the entire team arrived at Lehigh. A single morning practice was all the young players had left to showcase their talents before their number of reps decreased. Here is a brief rundown of who's stock is on the rise and who's stock is falling:
Stock on the Rise:
Danny Amendola- Once again, the former Cowboy was seen taking 100% of the reps at return man and performing admirably. Amendola was also able to showcase his receiving ability, making an impressive sliding catch in the endzone off of an A.J. Feeley pass. The young receiver continues to make his case for a spot on the Eagles roster, as he was repeatedly able to find open spaces in the defense.
Byron Parker- The former CFL superstar has been rotating in at both safety and cornerback, displaying his versatility. He made the highlight reel of the morning practice with a fantastic over-the-shoulder tip of Kevin Kolb's pass, which Macho Harris was then able to intercept.
Ken Parrish- As the only specialist to attend camp so early, Ken "Sarge" Parrish was able to get some quality reps in on kickoffs, field goals, and punts. He was also seen undergoing conditioning drills with Brian Westbrook and athletic trainer Rick Burkholder during his down time. As a "hometown hero" of sorts, Parrish has the potential to become a fan favorite in the coming weeks.
Macho Harris- In addition to his interception off of Parker's tipped pass, Harris displayed a tenacity at the line of scrimmage and blanketed rookie receivers with his excellent coverage skills. The young defensive hybrid has been having a fantastic camp so far.
Stock Falling:
Brandon Gibson- After a mysterious absence from this morning's practice, offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg announced that the rookie wide receiver had suffered a minor injury, and would be out of practice until "tomorrow or it could be a few more days." After a great start to camp, it would be a shame if Gibson experienced any setbacks. Wide receiver will be one of the toughest positions on this roster to earn, and Gibson needs to be in perfect health if he expects to make the team.
Jeremy Maclin- Still no sign of our first round pick.

Nice article
I think gibsons getting “red shirted” this year… Like dunlap and a few players did last year.
Amendola
I caution you about getting too high on Amendola in camp. We were feeling the same things about him last summer, he was performing well and having an impressive camp but just never turned that corner that we had hoped. I really like the guys potential, but just be caustiously optimistic with this one.
I agree with you there
he looks like a good thing during non-contact practice and throughout TC but he never pans out… Maybe he will surprise us. I would love to have 5 ok to good recievers.
So are we have"
Curtis-good
Djax-good(he’s only in his 2nd year so I think its too early to call him great, but I think he will reach that status)
Avant-ok, could be great if he could find the end zone more and pick up more yards, athough I feel he does enough as the slot to help us.
Maclin-is unknown as of right now
Brown-decent
Baskett-decent
the rest are poor-decent.
Althoug gibson seems ok.
brown
brown is better than decent

sorry but
as of right now he is on the bubble. I think he could be good, even a starter but he just didnt seem to get going last year..
I would say based on last year that he is decent but then you would counter with “curtis didnt put up big stats either” but curtis did do extreemly well in the NFC championship game…
Lets just end the arguement right now. If I were taking about career I would say Brown is ok.
different player when you throw pads on him

Macho
I would really like to see this guy make the team. I know our secondary is kind of crowded but this guy just seems to have a real nose for the ball. I must also I say I am impressed with his coverage skills. Besides a guy named Macho playing in Philly would give us one of the coolest named players in the NFC.
listen when i talk
this is what i wrote after drafting macho
Yea there is a huge gap between Demps and Maho speed wise…demps ran a 4.39 to macho’s 4.68 which is light years….but Im sure Demps was way faster then Dawk in Dawks prime but Dawk is a better safety. Macho almost never got burned…reads the run well and will KnockUTFO…ala Sean Taylor(r.i.p.) yes he’s not as fast as either of them but you will think twice about coming across the middle…with both of them in the back field i really dont care who starts….as long as they both contribute and stay healthy…plus macho used to play 3 or 4 snaps at WR a game and kick return…he’s not track fast but he’s football fast and his last 3 or 4 steps before impact is insane…dude is a monster…
and i also wrote
well almost….LeSean McCoy could of went late first and really not of been to big of a reach….The TE ingram….w/o an injury could of been a first rounder/second rounder (being compared to sterling, antonio gates) and he’s my Tom brady pick of 2009..and then Macho Harris…WTF happened there ? he SHOULD of been a first two round pick..WTF ? 15 int’s in 3 years 22 pass break ups…hits like an animal ? no way he should of slipped out of the second round….he will become a starter by the end of year two and a fan favorite…I watched this fool every week and he has the moxy/swagger and talent that will drive us wild…please dont sign him to a 45 year/$40 million contract eagles …he is gonna be a star barring injury…we cant take a holdout in 2013…Here’s a link

So when Mgem talks listen !!!!
lol
First off, none of those guy have done anything yet, so don’t get too proud of yourself.
Secondly, as for Macho’s speed. he’s not elite fast by any stretch, but he’s much faster that his combine time indicates.
As his pro day he ran 4.46, and had some of the best CB shuttle and 3 cone times at the combine.
Those 40s, that for whatever ever reason he messed up at the combine, make him look much worse than he is.
o come on
fred ex they were all steals .. espocally ingram .. whos already better than celek

Whether or not they will all produce at this level I don’t know but they are all steals, with great value and huge potential

I’m not going to get overly excited (and gloat) about draft picks based on potential and a handful of practices.
I like just about every pick we made, and think we got some really good values.
But to sit here and pretend they are all star players (liking Ingram’s selection to be a Tom Brady type value, worrying about Macho’s contract extension) is completely ridiculous.
LOL fred
Tom brady type potential…like brady is one of the top 2 best QB’s in the league as a late round pick , and im saying Ingram could be one of the two best TE’s in the league in 6 or 7 years….Machos ext was more of a joke…since the eagles always lock up talented players when they are nobody’s and then refuse to resign them
MACHO!
From the Official Site:
“DB Macho Harris – Harris was probably the most impressive of the defensive backs in camp the first few days, and spent time working out at both safety and cornerback. He also faces a tough battle for a roster spot in a crowded defensive backfield, but Defensive Coordinator Sean McDermott has discussed Harris’ talent level and his interest in getting him on the field. We’ll see how he does in pads.”
I agree it’s pointless as this point to start gloating and go writing stuff in stone. None of us should get too excited, but c’mon guys, this is what training camp is all about! Hell, let’s get stoked for a great year and lots of great new faces in midnight green!
I will say that Macho is not going to be the 2k9 Na Brown award winner. As an ACC guy I watched him enough to know he’s the real deal and actually in 2007 when he almost left Tech a year early, the NFL selection committee graded him out as a late 1st/2nd rounder if I recall correctly. Not sure how an All-American year dropped him to the 5th round, but I’m confident enough that I ordered his jersey. I just hope he doesn’t go changing numbers on me.
Moreover, you’ve got to admit the name is oh-so fitting for our regional identity.
This is from Dave S. practice blog today..
3:30 PM – Some injury updates: Jason Peters, Asante Samuel, Trevor Laws, and Victor Abiamiri are all sitting out today’s practice. Andy Reid will provide an update on the injuries – both Peters’ and Samuel’s injuries are considered to be very minor. Finally, Brandon Gibson is back in action after sitting out yesterday’s practice with a minor injury.
DeSEAN JACKSON THE 10NE
4:24 PM – Shawn Andrews has yet to be seen on the practice field today, no word yet on the reason for his absence. Andy Reid will address the situation when he meets with the media after practice.
DeSEAN JACKSON THE 10NE
Sorry I saw this last....
4:45 PM – Andy Reid just gave quick injury word on the guys missing from practice. Six players will be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list: Brian Westbrook, Victor Abiamiri, Shawn Andrews who’s back tightened up on him after the running this morning, Trevor Laws who has a hamstring issue, Jason Peters who has a quad spam, and Asante Samuel who has a tight hamstring.
DeSEAN JACKSON THE 10NE
Spasms, same thing last year… hope this is okay.
I reserve the right to be cautiously optimistic.

well its doesnt seem too bad
westbrook we all know about
Abiamiri we know about
Shawn Andrews could be a problem, but also when your back tightens it shows your dehydrated.
Laws we dont know about, hamstrings are troublesome
Peters could be a problem b/c he is our LT(and this could be his poor work ethic although I dont think so)
and Asante did the same thing last year didnt he? I think he just likes missing practice lol.. IDC let the man make INT’s.
I am with you there… on a good note.. Demps picked off Kolb the first play of the 11 on 11 drills
DeSEAN JACKSON THE 10NE
Good
if demps can show us he can fill Dawks void ability wise then that makes me alot more comfortable…
I dont expect him to fill the leadership.
Although if we get 2 ball hawks in the secondary(demps and asante) then were even more dangerous, and brown is decent after a pick too
