Condolences from Cowboyland

I was saddened to hear of your coordinator's passing.  Though not a fan of his team, I was always a fan of his style.  He was a great one and will be missed.  It is a sad time for Iggles fans right now, but the season ahead will surely act as a salve.

I just wish Brett (Me, Me, Me) Farve had waited a couple more days for his announcement so proper respect could be paid to Johnson's passing.

About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

They did not announce JJ's passing

until 6 or so last night.

Brett made his decision earlier in the day.

I wish brett would have waited a few days too but how was he supposed to know?

I didn’t intend to suggest Favre intended to upstage this sad occassion. However, I still wish he had waited until the 30th. Had he done so, the proper reverence would have been observed.

Also, thumbs down to the sports media outlets who place Favre’s decision ahead of Johnson’s passing… like school in summer… No Class!

ok, admittedly it is not something favre had control of

maybe i’m just frustrated that JJ gets 2 minutes on sportscenter and favre gets a 15 minute piece on outside the lines

grr

I don’t think I’ll ever forgive Favre for that. At least we don’t have to hear much about the selfish bastard anymore now that he’s retired. Good riddence.

O how I wish that were true, but I can not see it.

By the way HutHut

i appreciate you being a classy cowboys fan. You should’ve seen the things that one of your own posted about JJ passing.

Lets just say if I were next to him when he typed it I would be in jail for life.

Every fan base has stupid people...

Just like those fans in the Lincoln stands having a good time from seeing Irvin inmobile on the ground… And even, from time to time, I get to see someone writing that they want to see Romo or someone like that on the ground like Irvin…

Stupid, but it’s becoming more common seeing “people” forgetting how to be human…

Yeah I know every fan base has dumb people like that.

but you cant compare Irvin being hurt to JJ dying but I get what you were trying to say.

I dont remember seeing Irvin hurt and I definantly wouldnt have laughed. And if I did my dad(who is a big eagles fan like me and hates the cowboys too*no offense*) would have beaten me.

Yeah I dont get it really, People just need to chill out sometimes.

No, its various cowboys fans

that come on philadelphiaeagles.com, and other sites with a comment/forum section.

I read the article above, the person who wrote it was great and I respect him because of it, an all of the comments I read are pretty good.

It’s fun to get on here and BS about all of our favorite teams, but the reality is they are all humans at the end of the day. Thanks for the class, HutHut, regardless of who you do or don’t root for!

very classy

much appreciated HutHut. Everyone is hurting right now. The NFL lost one of the greats. Thank you for everything JJ you will never be forgotten. RIP Jim Johnson 1941 – 2009

There haven't been too many coaches in NFL history

who have to leave at or near the peak of their careers like this and who subsequently engender such heartfelt respect and memories. In fact, the only other coach that I can think of that was in a similar sitaution was Vince Lombardi in 1970, when he had to take a leave of absence from coaching the Redskins, and he of course very quickly was killed by colon cancer.

JJ made the whole of the NFC East better

“You are my opponent, but not my enemy,
for your resistance gives me strength.
Your will gives me courage.
Your spirit ennobles me.
And, although I aim to defeat you,
should I succeed, I will not humiliate you,
instead I will honour you.
For without you, I am a lesser man.”

Giants fan here

sorry to hijack an old thread, but I just got back from a vacation and wanted to share my condolences with you all. I went to college at the University of Delaware from 2002-2006 and had to deal with a lot of Eagles fans during a very good run for your team. I grew to despise the Eagles and respect them at the same time. One of the guys I respected the most was Jim Johnson. If you search my archived posts here at BGN, you’ll probably find that I’ve asked on a number of occasions how the hell no team ever hired JJ to be a head coach, b/c it was plainly obvious to a frustrated Giants fan that the guy was pretty much in a class by himself as a defensive coordinator.

My college roommates and I had a pretty intense Madden franchise going our sophomore year, and as soon as the first season ended I fired Tom Coughlin and hired Jim Johnson as my coach, which pissed off the Eagle-fan roommate to no end. I ended up winning the next 3 Super Bowls, and would always joke that if the real Giants ever did the same thing they’d be set. I was sorta-right, they just hired his disciple and copied his system.

JJ was a class act and a great coach, and he will be missed by any real football fans. I won’t miss having to watch Eli Manning go up against a Jim Johnson defense twice a year, but I’m very sad that Johnson is gone.

Its cool and thanks for you kind words

Also the reason he was never picked up as a head coach is because he really didnt want to become one from what I’ve read. He liked being a DC and just stuck with what he loved.

JJ was a class act.. But you still have to worry about Eli going up against a JJ defense twice a year because although he may be gone his system lives on.. And McDermott is yet another disciple of JJ, infact JJ went to great lengths to make sure McDermott stayed with the eagles, he was hand picked by JJ himself and I think was even chosen over Spags lol.

Good words

I love to hear this stuff. We’re all fans of our own teams, but at the end of the day, we’re fans of the sport. You have to always give respect where it’s due.
