Eagles camp notes - Brandon Gibson, Jack Ikegwuonu impress

News and notes from Eagles camp pulled from around the web.

- Merrill Reese was a guest on WIP this afternoon and said that Harold Carmichael was very impressed with rookie WR Brandon Gibson. Carmichael said that Gibson reminded him of former Eagle Chris Carter. It should be interesting to follow Gibson this offseason, a number of draftniks said he was on of the steals of the late rounds. Many people liked his ability, but truly terrible QB play limited him production in college last year. The Eagles practice blog also highlighted a number of nice plays from Gibson.

Oh and I think we have our first contender for the Na Brown award!

- Jack Ikegwuonu was also singled out for exceptional play in the morning session.

On defense, the player who shined was Jack Ikegwuonu. On the first play of the drill, he closed beautifully to knock down a McNabb pass in the corner of the end zone, showing a burst of speed that means he's close to fully recovered from last year's knee injury. He also showed impressive jamming technique at the line, effectively delaying a receiver's release twice.

- Also worth mentioning is rookie TE Cornelius Ingram. Watching practice footage today, I saw McNabb hook up with Ingram for multiple touchdowns in red zone drills.

Naa I like GIBTB, (the last be is for Brown, or Basket, if not both)

I called it from the draft, I said Gibson beats out both Brown and Basket for the firth roster spot.

what are you guys talking about

depth chart means nothing when it comes to a slot reciever… avant is becoming one of the best in the business andy is crazy high on him not a chance he is let go over brown or baskett. if anything baskett makes the team over brown because of special teams

my solution to the reciever situation.....

Reggie Brown should be traded for some picks. Anyways we know DJax is the clear cut starter and we’ll rotate Curtis, Maclin, Baskett, and Gibson at Split End. Avant is the clear cut slot man and I’d even like to see Ingram have a chance here. I’m not concered about the WR situation at all. We all know Andy will have some tricks up his sleeve.

Im naive, what does Na Brown mean again?

"If they end up 2-14 and both of those wins came against Dallas, that's a pretty good year."

Na Brown was a receiver who used to always impress in camp. But sucked during the season.

He was like a Trainging camp superstar.

Being awarded the Na Brown award, is saying you are a camp juggernaut, but a total stiff during the season.

Although, we awarded Hank Basket that award, and he wasn't really bad during the year.

I guess its kinda saying, who will be this years camp “Darling”. The guy everyone falls in love with.

Last year, it was Lorenzo Booker.

Gotcha, thanks man. I rememer reading S[ags articles last year about Booker during training camp, made him sound like the next LT. Thats why i dont really trust Spags anymore.

Not neccsiarly

It just means that you’re a young or less heralded player who wows everyone at camp. it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll suck during the regular season.

Brent Celek has won it, Baskett… Booker.

I kinda took back by statement, after thinking of Hank Baskett

Anyone have any word on Macho?

by SJPhillyVT on Jul 28, 2009 2:49 PM EDT reply actions

Apparently he played well yesterday, picking off a Kevin Kolb pass.

by JasonB on Jul 28, 2009 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

I heard that one yea. He’s playing at safety is all I know. He’ll probably be rocking on special teams.

by SJPhillyVT on Jul 28, 2009 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions

They said he’ll see time at both safety and CB in this camp.

by JasonB on Jul 28, 2009 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions

picked off a Kolb pass???? I dont believe it.

Good to see

Ike playing hard. I really hope he makes the team. Another fun thing to see is Ingram showing the coaches he can be a red zone threat.
