Most Hilarious Article in Recent Memory
Apparently, this is Mike Florio's(PFT) take on current starting QB's that are either better, comparable or worse than Michael Vick who is 2 years removed from football and in my opinion wasn't very good to begin with. This article was from 3 days ago but i just saw it today. I'm going to do a comparison of the QBs that Florio said that is either worse or "comparable" to Vick that seemed ridiculous to me.
First, let me give some stats and info on Vick.
2006- His last and best year since 2002 season when he had an 81 QB rating(his highest)
Games started-16-Completions-204/388-52.6 pct- 2474 Passing yards-6.4 average-20TD/13INT-75.7 Rating
Rushing Attempts-123-1039 yards-8.4 average- 2TD
Quick Facts: Michael Vick has never thrown for 3000 yards or more. He has thrown for 20 tds only once. Career QB rating average is 73.6. Take away the Falcons one good year in 2004 with him as starter, his record is a sub par 27-24-1. They went 15-16 with him as starter after 2004.
Roddy White was drafted in 2005 with the 27th pick but surprisingly did not improve at all in his 2nd year when most WRs improve the most. Instead, he started 3 less games and had 3 less tds giving him a big fat 0. In 2007 with Vick gone, White posts 83 catches for 1200 yds and 6 tds under 3 different QBs(Joey Harrington,Leftwich, and Redman). Hmmm....better without Vick? I think so. Sure we all know Vick has a strong arm and is the best rushing QB in history but last i checked, a quarterback's main job is supposed to be able to throw the ball with accuracy and manage the game which Vick is umm...not so great at.
Here is the article.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/07/20/plenty-of-teams-should-want-vick/
Plenty of teams should want Vick Posted by Mike Florio on July 20, 2009 12:06 PM ETOur latest item for SportingNews.com makes the case for quarterback Mike Vick refusing to serve as a backup quarterback/part-time Wildcat option once he's reinstated to the NFL.
"The question for now isn't whether Vick will win a title or otherwise become the best quarterback in the game," we explain. "The question is whether he's currently one of the best 32.
"There's no reason to think he isn't, and so there simply is no reason for him to accept any other role."
To prove our point, let's compare Vick to the starting quarterbacks for every other team, and let's apply one of three labels to each guy. ("Better" means he's better than Vick, not that Vick is better than him. And you should feel free to come up with your own scale, if you think you're better than me.)
Here we go.
Arizona: Kurt Warner . . . better.
Atlanta: Matt Ryan . . . better.
Buffalo: Trent Edwards . . . comparable.
Baltimore: Joe Flacco . . . better.
Chicago: Jay Cutler . . . better.
Cleveland: Derek Anderson/Brady Quinn . . . worse.
Cincinnati: Carson Palmer . . . better.
Carolina: Jake Delhomme . . . worse.
Denver: Kyle Orton . . . worse.
Dallas: Tony Romo . . . comparable.
Detroit: Matthew Stafford/Daunte Culpepper . . . worse.
Green Bay: Aaron Rodgers . . . comparable.
Houston: Matt Schaub . . . comparable.
Indianapolis: Peyton Manning . . . better.
Jacksonville: David Garrard . . . worse.
Kansas City: Matt Cassel . . . comparable.
Miami: Chad Pennington . . . comparable.
Minnesota: Tarvaris Jackson/Sage Rosenfels . . . worse.
New England: Tom Brady . . . better.
New Orleans: Drew Brees . . . better.
New York Giants: Eli Manning . . . better.
New York Jets: Kellen Clemens/Mark Sanchez . . . worse.
Oakland: JaMarcus Russell/Jeff Garcia . . . worse.
Philadelphia: Donovan McNabb . . . better.
Pittsburgh: Ben Roethlisberger . . . better.
San Diego: Philip Rivers . . . better.
San Francisco: Shaul Hill/Alex Smith . . . worse.
Seattle: Matt Hasselbeck . . . better.
St. Louis: Marc Bulger . . . comparable.
Tampa Bay: Josh Freeman/Luke McCown/Byron Leftwich . . . worse.
Tennessee: Kerry Collins . . . worse.
Washington: Jason Campbell . . . worse.
So that's 13 starters better than Vick, seven who are comparable, and a dozen who are worse.
I start again from here
The first comparison i find ridiculously hilarious is the one with our favorite Cowboy, Tony Homo! Sure, we hate him but you cant deny the fact that he is really good. Well...at least the first 10 games or so. Last three years he passed for over 10,500 yards with a 63.6 comp pct, 81 pass tds and a 94.7 QB rating. Is Mike Vick comparable? i think not.
Second ridiculously hilarious comparison, Aaron Rodgers. 2008 marked the first year Aaron Rodgers was the starting QB for Green Bay after bench warming for 3 years. The end result after Farve's departure, passed for over 4000 yards with a 63.6 pct, 28 passing tds, 4 rushing tds, and a qb rating of 93.8. Is Mike Vick comparable? Nope!
Third ridiculously hilarious comparison, Chad Pennington. In 2008, Pennington passed for 3653 yards with a 67 comp pct, 19tds to only 7 ints, and a 97.4 QB rating. Career QB rating 90.6. Is Mike Vick comparable? In his dreams.
Fourth ridiculously hilarious comparison, Matt Cassel, wonder boy of the 2008 season. Cassel filled in for everyone's favorite pretty boy Tom Brady and threw for nearly 3700 yards with a 63 comp pct, 21 pass tds and had a QB rating of 89.4. Mike Vick again, is not comparable.
Fifth ridiculously hilarious statement this time, Jason Campbell. Florio said Jason Campbell was worse than Michael Vick. I might have barely accepted comparable for this one but worse? Not a chance. In 2008, Campbell's first full 16 games as starter he passed for 3245 yards with a 62 comp pct, 13 pass tds to only 6 ints giving him an 84 rating. Add in his 258 rushing yds, playing with a gazillion coordinators and coaches over his career, and the leagues oldest O-line, Jason is no joke. I believe most people will take him over Vick at this point.
Some honoroble mentions include Matt Shaub(92.7 rtg), Kyle Orton(79.6 rtg), David Garrard(81.7 rating), Tarvaris Jackson(95.4 rtg in 9 gms last year), and Shaun Hill(87.5 rtg in 9 games last year). Other than Matt Shaub the rest of the starters are what Florio called worse than Mike Vick. I consider them comparable to the Vick of today. Also notice how all the other players except Delhomme/Derek Anderson(and the ones i just mentioned)Florio called worse are developing young players or 1st round pick rookies.
In my opinion, no more than 4 teams would be interested in Vick. If i were to bet, it would be New England where Bill Belichick can use him in the wildcat and give the Dolphins a taste of their own medicine.
Here is a poll just for kicks.

Everyone knows Mike Florio = Joan Rivers
He just spreads rumors and the occasional good story, it doesn’t mean it’s still not fun to read, you just got to take it with a grain(or a lb.) of salt.

How in the world is Vick considered comparable to Aaron Rodgers? Florio jumped the shark a long time ago.
Vick hasn’t played for almost what 3 years now? He’s like stale dated milk and a small group of people are thinking they can make cream out of him. Odds are he just upsets some stomachs.

I could only hope..
I could only fantasize that Dan Snyder or Jerry Jones agrees. Throw tons of money at him and have him start over Campbell or Romo. Yeah right.

I don't Agree with
Cleveland – Anderson…better
Carolina – Delhomme…better when healthy
SF – Shaun Hill… I think he’ll be good
Tennesse – Collins – maybe in a year or two (then V. Young… better)
St. Louis – Bulger… better when healthy
Washington – Cambell… better, needs to a learn 1 system not 11
We don’t even know if Vick is in shape &/or ready to play. as far as we know Vick’s might be worse than Eli Manning. o wow.. he must be on crack, Romo is comparable & Eli is better, must be w/ Plaxico, b/c we all saw the Giants go twenty-something quarters without a recieving TD by a WR.

Vick did pay his
dues but that doesnt mean he should be able to come back into the league and get a starting job right away…
Vick will almost have to serve as a backup unless he goes to the 49ers. thats about it. I would take ortan over vick any day because ortan is actually got some weapons around him this year.
by wild_eagle on Jul 24, 2009 3:13 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Ortan can throw and actually complete passes
Vick is a glorified scat back.

I think the OPPOSITE of waht McNabb thinks
I think black quarterbacks get more hype for being black and at the QB position. Vick was a C- QB at best, but he was hyped as a top 5.

oh most definantly
he was way way overhyped… McNabb’s earned his though.
by wild_eagle on Jul 24, 2009 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed
McNabb earned his… How about Vince Young? His rookie year the defense led them to the playoffs and he was ROY and even had himself on the cover of Madden… He’s a backup to Kerry Collins now.

V. Young
Hasn’t done anything yet.. I really dont think he will in Tennessee because of the situation he is in. I think there afraid to play him. The moment he was drafted by the Titans I knew he wouldnt stay one.
Young has to be a consistant top QB like McNabb to earn his hype.

My point is that black QBs get hype because they're black

by Joe_D on Jul 25, 2009 11:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Um, no.
So your evidence that black QBs are “hyped up” are Vick — who, while a mediocre QB, is still an incredible talent — and Young, who entered the league following one of the most dominant performances in bowl history, but did so with a ton of questions about his ability to win from the pocket. Vick was overrated and serious fans always knew it. Young lost his job . . . to Kerry Collins.
by Tracer Bullet on Jul 26, 2009 9:59 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
not really
Vick got hype because of his different run first playing style, he was a consistant playmaker but a inconsistant QB.

haha...
“Florio’s on crack” option leading in votes by far just as i expected. lol. I know that idiot JIBTA must have voted option 3, i wonder who are the three that voted for option 1?

Hm...
Here’s what I disagree on:
Baltimore: Joe Flacco – "Better"’s a little too generous here, but I’m nitpicking.
Cleveland: Derek Anderson/Brady Quinn: I guess we’re just going off of last year, because Anderson’s potential two years ago sure made him seem better. And can’t really compare a quarterback to a quarterback who’s never been given the actual reins of the offense. I’d say comparable, at best.
Carolina: Jake Delhomme: Comparable. Yeah, I’d be a fool to say last year’s Postseason run for him was good (even mediocre), but (once again) you’re going off last year’s results, and not his career. If your going to compare last year’s results to Vick, then make sure you compare last year’s Delhomme to the jailed Vick of last year too. Makes as much sense.
Dallas: Tony Romo: I hate Romo. But comparable? Even I found that wrong. Better.
Detroit: Matthew Stafford: Can’t compare. Culpepper won’t be starting for long (if any games), so focus on Stanford. Rookie who hasn’t played an NFL game yet. Wait a year.
Green Bay: Aaron Rodgers: What? Seriously? Vick is comparable to Rodgers? Rodgers would like to have a word with Florio after what he’s shown as a starter. Better.
Jacksonville: David Garrard: Comparable game-wise, but Vick’s had more success I suppose.
Minnesota: Tarvaris Jackson/Sage Rosenfels: This will be Favre’d soon.Calling it.
New York Jets: Kellen Clemens/Mark Sanchez : See the Lions.
Oakland: JaMarcus Russell/Jeff Garcia: Comparable. Too early to call Russell (he’s had no weapons to throw to for his years at Oakland) and Garcia’s comparable.
Tampa Bay: Josh Freeman: For the other two, definitely worse. For this one, see Lions.
Tennessee: Kerry Collins: Comparable, at worse for Collins. Let’s not forget the numbers he had last year to throwing to…LenDale White? Pretty sure no one knows his receivers, either.
Washington: Jason Campbell: Comparable. Campbell’s got some talent, and has proven in some games that he can put up Vick-like numbers in passing yards. He might not have as many rushing yards, but he certainly has more passing TD’s.
