Reggie Brown to Baltimore?

I checked and surprisingly didn't see this brought up anywhere. With Derick Mason's surprise retirement, Baltimore is bringing in such stellar talent as D.J. Hacket for "auditions". With John Harbaugh's Philly connections and Reggie Brown's potential "odd man out" status, doesn't this make a lot of sense? I would assume Reggie is better then the rookie free agents and other cast-offs on the street. Harbaugh must know what Brown "could" be capable of and Baltimore has show the willingness to try to resurect L.J. Smith. Thoughts?

Any deals would be made near end of camp. But I would do it in a heartbeat

We can get a forth or a fifth in return.

Never mind a 2… I’m quite sure the Eagles would do cartwheels for a 3

by JimmyK on Jul 20, 2009 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions

While we didn’t discuss specific teams, I did allude to the possibility of Brown being dealt in our WR preview.

Trade his a$$

And pick something useful like Ray Rice…then dump the rest of the garbage in our backfield.

by DLawrence on Jul 20, 2009 6:24 PM EDT reply actions

garbage really?? McCOy will be way better than Rice

by phila.eagles on Jul 20, 2009 6:44 PM EDT reply actions

we will see

they are similar players .. mccoy is not the second coming lt here .. he can be a nice rb .. maybe like a warrick dunn .. or at best thomas jones .. who i would be estatic if he turned out to be jones. . but if there was any sure fire stud rb in this draft it was beenie

by jack is better than asante on Jul 20, 2009 11:51 PM EDT up reply actions

All beenie has is a stiff arm.

and that won’t translate to the stronger defensive players in the NFL. They’ll run through it and plant him. Watch for knee injuries early in his career.

About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

by IronHank on Jul 21, 2009 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions

bs

your a beenie hater .. that offense is set .. larry fitz .. nice second wr in boldin .. breston in the slot .. beenie is a good back ..if lienart can be decent they are set for the next 5 years

by jack is better than asante on Jul 21, 2009 11:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Beanie no sure fire stud. Big guy who runs high has a good chance of struggling with injuries. The big 10 also has a bad track record, and there is the whole randomness of the NFL draft thing.

by FredEx on Jul 22, 2009 12:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Not McCoy

Keep McCoy and Westbrook, obviously. But get another guy back there who at least is competent. I don’t want Booker as a #3. Eckel is OK, but if we’ve got Weaver we should be OK at FB. I’m thinking of Rice (or someone like him) as McCoy insurance.

by DLawrence on Jul 20, 2009 7:12 PM EDT reply actions

Jumping the gun a bit.

I’m the last guy I thought would ever come to his defense but, we have yet to see a healthy Brown this year. So let’s all take a step back and wait a week into camp before we’re ready to toss this guy to the trash heap.

by Cowboy KILLER on Jul 20, 2009 8:54 PM EDT reply actions

It’s a theoretical 3rd rounder, for presumably our 3rd WR (Of course he could be anywhere from 1-6 in actuality)

But a 3rd pick constitutes something of value. We’re not talking about cutting the guy.

by FredEx on Jul 20, 2009 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions

and

they arnt gonna give up rice unless a rb is in that deal to replace him .. maybe for rice and a pick for mccoy .. but the eagles wont trade him before he even plays .. thats unheard of .. so we will see no rice .. reggie will stay here and prob start over curtis

by jack is better than asante on Jul 20, 2009 11:52 PM EDT reply actions

that's a harsh assessment.

we haven’t seen mccoy play yet….why would we trade him before we know what we have? brown could see the field more than you might think. he’s pretty good injury insurance..kind of like omar gaither, we’ll have to see a couple of preseason games, maybe 3 or 4 games into the season…and it will suddenly be nice to have reggie brown.

by snowhill82 on Jul 21, 2009 2:38 AM EDT up reply actions

brown's value

If they were to trade Brown my guess would be a conditional pick; a 4 at best ,a 6 if he puts up numbers like last year. NFL teams value draft picks like gold. Randy Moss only got Oakland a 4th a few years ago. He had some baggage but is way more talented than Brown. No way in hell it would be a 3rd . A conditional protects both teams. The birds only gave up two 5ths for a corner who started for 3 years for a super bowl team(hobbs) . Avant will be the eagles 3rd receiver this year. Jack is better than asante you have no clue about evaluating players, your name tells me all I need to know about you. We are not playing madden here this is the real NFL son.

by amberjack on Jul 21, 2009 12:43 AM EDT reply actions

Randy Moss only got Oakland a 4th a few years ago

This is Oakland we are talking about. lol

Previous trades really screw stuff up. The Roy Williams deal basically inflated every potential WRs value this past year.

so u think jack is better than asante

u don’t know crap. the raiders are idiots, that’s about the only intelligent thing you’ve said. Roy williams was way more accomplished and younger and look how that move worked out last year. Instead of setting the bar it that trade has done the opposite no one will ever give up that much for a wide receiver again. The cowboys are idiots which is why they over paid for the guy. Reggie and Jack will be lucky to make the team( i think jack has a better shot but not much. And better than asante come on dummy you’ve got know clue. He has the talent for 1000 yards and 8 tds. It’s nowhere close to a lock.

Stop acting like he’s had multiple years with more than 850 yards.

I also wouldn’t classify as him as young, and he should have already emerged this deep into his NFL career.

hes not that old

I said I wouldn’t classify him as young. He’s 27. To me, that’s not a young NFL player.

playing in detroit doesnt help either

It might because they are forced to throw it a ton. Worked wonders for Calvin last season. The past two years before last season they were in the 10 ten in passing offense as well. It’s no excuse for him.

lets see wha he does with out the best wr in the nfl

Romo didn’t have Randy Moss

But yeah, I wouldn’t be remotely surprised if he gets 1000. However he’s only accomplished that feat once, and I don’t like it being thrown a round like a lock.

mark it down

You should mark it down, along with a slew of other predictions and in your mega post.

roy williams

He had 19 catches in 10 games last year with the Cowboys, 35 overall. 430 yards receiving. He is a talented player but not worth anywhere near the two first and other picks the Cowboys gave up. No team will pay that much again unless the guy is a flat out stud. The Cardinals couldn’t get a first for Boldin and he is a stud. That’s why he wasn’t traded because they couldn’t get 1 first let alone two. You are the Jackass JACK. Are you going to cry when they cut or trade both of your boys? Go back and play Madden and leave the real football analysis to people who really know football. BTW williams has never had 1000 yard season dummy

i think roy could be a good player

he was thrown into a system, mid-season, that he had no chance to learn (offseason will fix that), he was romo’s third option to TO (#1 because he made it that way) and Witten (#2 but really romo’s favorite target), and TO was in meltdown mode when he got there, which fucked with romo’s head and made him target TO more (enforced by Jerry and TO together no doubt)

I am in no way a cowboys fan but i think rippin roy a new one isnt gonna stop him from being a productive receiver in dallas… i think he and witten together will be a great duo if their o-line can stop opposing defenses from mutilating romo and cutting off their run game

Reggie was hurt for a lot of his regression period. He could definitely go either way. I’m not banking on that 800 or so out of him, but won’t be surprised if he delivers.

Our buddy, JIBTA has previously alluding to Reggie being young still, and he could break out. I don’t disagree that he could break out, but being only a few months older apparently Boldin has peaked. Interesting stuff.

boldin

yea well how much better can boldin get .. hes already a 1000 yard wr .. hes not going to turn into moss .. brown was hurt .. he didnt regress. . if he does bad this year than its a regression .. and lj smith never did anything .. he sucked .. he was the bigest waste of a franchise tag in nfl history ..

by jack is better than asante on Jul 22, 2009 2:31 AM EDT up reply actions

Theoretically, he could be the only option on an offensive and accumulate better stats. I’d agree that he likely can’t get much better.

I just find it amusing you point he’s older than Roy (albeit by one year). I also find it amusing that players that are 28 are still considered young at the WR position.

by FredEx on Jul 22, 2009 2:38 AM EDT up reply actions

Anquan Boldin

IS a stud. He is easily a top ten receiver. TOP 10 = Stud.
Dude had 101 catches 1377 yards 8 tds his rookie year. Fitzgerald was drafted the year after. If not for his beastlike playing style which causes his injury issues he would be a sure fire hof’er. He can still make the HOF.

hes prob as good as roy williams .. very similar skill sets ..
WRONG. They are not similar at all. Anquan is a smaller 6’1 dominant RAC receiver and Roy Williams is a 6’3 big play possession style receiver. Know your shit before you make dumb comments Jibta even if you are……Jibta.

cmon man, give the guy some credit

would you call randy moss a dominant receiver after his rookie year?

by RIP26_litodoin'work on Jul 23, 2009 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Boldin’s rookie year: 2003

Boldin starts all 16 games, and gets 1377 yards, with 8 tds.

Jeff Blake and Josh McCown were throwing him the ball.

The next two best pass catchers were TE Freddie Jones (517) and another rookie WR Bryant Johnson with only 438 yards.

Their leading rusher was Shipp with 830 yards.

Now I admittedly don’t have any game tape in front of me, but I’m assuming it take long for teams to give extra attention to Boldin.

Enter Fitz: 2004
Larry Fitzgerald starts all 16 games and gets 780 yards, with 8 TDs.
Boldin is able to play only 10 games, with 9 starts and 623 yards) only one touchdown.

When able to play Boldin averages more than 13 yards better per game. Although Fitz has a clear TD advantage.

2005
Fitz once again starts all 16 and gets 1409 with 10 TDs.
Boldin only plays 14 games and gets 1402 with 7 TDs.

Boldin once again can’t play a full season, but averages 12 yards better per game. Fitz once again has a scoring advantage.

2006:
Fitz plays in 13 games and gets 946 yards with 6 TDs.
Boldin plays them all and gets 1203 with 4 TDs.

More the same, Boldin proves he can play a full 16 while still being a better yards per game WR than Fitz, albeit by less than 2.5 yards. Fitzgerald once again is the superior scoring threat.

2007:
Fitz plays in 15, gets 1409 yards, with 10 TDs
Boldin plays in 12 gets 853 with 9 TDs.

Boldin puts up the better scoring numbers this time, but Fitz is able to out produce him by nearly 23 yards per game.

2008:
Fitz plays all 16 gets 1431 yards with 12 TDs.
Boldin gets his face broken, but appears in 12 games for 1038 and 11 TDs.

Boldin scores more TDs per game again. Fitz beats him in yardage, but by less than 3 yards per game.

Conclusion:

This can be another the knife cuts both ways argument. Boldin could have helped Fitz or vice versa or they’d both be studs with or without each other.

Boldin proved he can get things done with out Fitz in the only year he could. It’s a small proven sample size, but it still happened.

Additionally, Fitzgerald was only clearly better stats wise for one season.

Getting 1300 yards as a rookie is impressive regardless of your team situation. The fact he did, and that there’s only so much ball to go around in ’Zona, and Fitz always had the benefit of Boldin around, could make Boldin just as good (or theoretically even better) than Fitz.

playing oppisite the best wr in the nfl only helps you .. where are the stats who show who lined up agains fitz and who lined up against boldin .. cuz hes not catching balls on asomugha or champ bailey .. cuz they are always on fitz .. boldin is good .. and borderline top 10 wr .. but hes not larry fitz or andre johnson .. they are on diff tiers .. its like peyton manning and phillip rivers .. both good .. ones top tier .. and ones on the next tier

hes not catching balls on asomugha

That’s because no one is. Andre Johnson can’t beat that guy.

It’s hard to discredit Boldin when you did it on your own the only chance you got and you arguably out produced Fitz. You were definitely discrediting him before.

As for your most recent comment I think a lot more people can agree with that.

Part of the reason this ballooned up was comments like this.

take away larry tfitz and hes average

Average? The guy puts up over 1300 on his own on a terrible team, and gets just as much if not more production than Fitz does. See what I mean? People don’t interpret average as a (borderline) top 10 WR.

My perception of average is a few more stops away from being a superstar than yours.

Tier 1- Elite
Tier 2- Great
Tier 3- Good
Tier 4- Above Average
Tier 5- Average

Something along those lines.

I just BS’ed that quick without thinking who fits in what tier and if I’s used the corresponding word for them

Also because you start more than one WR, the Tiers could/should be bigger.

I’d never lable a top 10 WR as average whereas I might label the 10th best QB as average or just slightly better than average.

Boldin put up 1377 with no help (more yards than Mason ever got for the record) and has performed at the same level as superstar/stud/elite Fitz. That doesn’t make him well above average by most people’s definition of average.

I don’t think of the same thing as you when I heard the word average. That’s the main problem.

boldin is good

Period The End

as soon as he figures out that he’s not invincible and can still produce at an incredibly high level without taking that extra hit or two (pulling a marvin harrison and ducking out of bounds), he will be great for a while longer

he started the cursing with f bomb and i have used stats to prove my points i’m just shortening his name for him. he has been answering right away but now that you and i have put up logical arguments no word. jackass is the only thing i said i haven’t cursed at him at all. as for the reply button so what i didn’t realize you were the police of this board you calm down

by amberjack on Jul 22, 2009 12:41 AM EDT reply actions

by birdsflyinhigh2590 on Jul 22, 2009 12:55 AM EDT up reply actions

that’s what these boards are for to discuss things and if someone has a stupid opinion i’ll tell them

by amberjack on Jul 22, 2009 12:58 AM EDT up reply actions

dude

who the fuck is this jackass .. all he does is rant and rave .. atleast i talk about football .. hes like broad street .. but broad street is funny and has funny pictures .. this guy is just a tool .. where is that troll spray u guys were talking about? we need to bust out a can

by jack is better than asante on Jul 22, 2009 2:15 AM EDT reply actions

i have more stas to back up my arguments then you

I started ranting when you dropped the f bomb on me that made it personal. Stats aren’t i think and i’m pretty sure like you use the are actual numbers. Try it to support an argument sometime.

by amberjack on Jul 22, 2009 2:26 AM EDT up reply actions

you talk football like a third grader

you pick your favorite player and assign all kinds of rediculous proclamation to them about what they’re going to do

by amberjack on Jul 22, 2009 2:35 AM EDT up reply actions

what

“Stats aren’t i think and i’m pretty sure like you use the are actual numbers” … dude u suck worse than me

by jack is better than asante on Jul 22, 2009 2:33 AM EDT reply actions

instead of using numbers

u say things like “i think” and “i’m pretty sure” witness your twice insistance that roy williams led the nfl in receiving he did not but you were sure he did

by amberjack on Jul 22, 2009 2:38 AM EDT up reply actions

u could look stuff up

the computer is a wonderful tool genius

by amberjack on Jul 22, 2009 2:47 AM EDT up reply actions

Your an even worse dictionary.

I like the quote though.

by FredEx on Jul 22, 2009 2:47 AM EDT up reply actions

and strike with vengence hahaha ohhhhhh………such great entertainment on such a boring night lol

by birdsflyinhigh2590 on Jul 22, 2009 2:49 AM EDT up reply actions

thinking is your worst problem

you should read more and study statistics before you think about football any further

by amberjack on Jul 22, 2009 2:50 AM EDT up reply actions

read?

read .. fuck reading .. “wanna protect your money .. than put it in your books .. cuz niggas dont read.. shit books are like kryptonite to a nigga”

by jack is better than asante on Jul 22, 2009 2:54 AM EDT up reply actions

haha

coming from a guy who said roy williams never had a 1000 yard season .. than he had an 1100 yard one .. both were wrong .. and i know a lot of statistics .. sorry i dont know how much receiving yards dane looker had in 2006 .. cuz i dont give a shit A .. and B i can always look i up if i have to .

by jack is better than asante on Jul 22, 2009 2:52 AM EDT reply actions

i corrected myself

i am more than willing to admit if i made a mistake unlike you jack. roy had 1310 btw

by amberjack on Jul 22, 2009 2:54 AM EDT up reply actions

he thought you said 1100 in that one comment...

in fact you wrote 1 1000 yard season meaning to say Roy had only one 1000 yard season. So that’s why he said

coming from a guy who said roy williams never had a 1000 yard season .. than he had an 1100 yard one .. both were wrong ..
. Can we end this now?
