Expect Big Things from the Big Kid
Shawn Andrews has a lot to play for this year; and a couple reasons why this year might make football fun for him again. We all watched in anguish last year as one the most talented players on our team sat out and struggled with a condition that is extremely hard to understand. Well, he's back! Not only is he back, but he's back with his brother and his old college teammate.
Pat Kirwan of of NFL.com and Sirius satellite radio did an interview with him, and I thought it would be worth while to post his notes of the interview here:
Interview of the week
Because of my daily Sirius radio show, I talk with players, coaches, front-office executives and, on occasion, even owners. This week, I have to say that I was very impressed with Eagles guard Shawn Andrews.
Andrews has struggled with depression, but he's well on his way to recovery. He talked with me about all the pressures he has dealt with since childhood, and, until recently, he tried to mask them. But after receiving a helping hand from Eagles coach Andy Reid and a few family members, Andrews said he feels ready to resume a healthy life -- and enjoy football.
As Andrews said, "Sometimes you don't miss the water until the well runs dry." The well was almost dry for Andrews. But now he's ready to play well next to his brother, recent Eagles addition Stacy Andrews, and college friend Jason Peters, who came to Philadelphia in a trade with Buffalo.
Shawn energized me when he talked about how positive he feels right now and how much he feels he can accomplish. Watch out for the Eagles this season.

The interview was good – I tried to record it with my phone to post here (14 minutes) but the file got corrupted. Hopefully I hear it again on Saturday for a 2nd attempt.
The funniest thing he talked about were his college days when him and Jason Peters would go to Wendy’s when they could dig up 5 bucks between the 2 of them to split 4 double stack cheeseburgers.

This is great. Glad to see that Shawn is in the right mindset to start the season. If he stays healthy (both mentally and physically), our O-Line will be second to none. Kick some ass Big Kid!
