Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

1 on 1 with Ben Zubak

From keeping readers up-to-date on the popular Philadelphia sports blog The Eagles Perch, to constantly analyzing (and occasionally speculating) his favorite NFL team's decisions, Ben Zubak is definitely one of the most passionate members of the Eagles' fan base. People looking for realistic perspectives and gritty opinions regarding the "Iggles" should constantly be checking out Zubak's articles, which are frequently published on the Courier Post Online website. And if you're interested in the truth of the most recent news stories breaking out of Philly, Zubak is the man to listen to once again. Because of his unique qualities and methods of delivering Eagles headlines, we here at Bleed Green are more than happy to work with Mr. Zubak (pictured above), and in this post, present a brief interview we held with the Eagles Perch author, as he discusses everything from why he hasn't given up on the Eagles throughout the tough years, and what he expects to see from the 2009 squad. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy:

Question 1: As a passionate Eagles fan, have you ever regretted the years you've followed the team because of their lack of a Super Bowl win?

Ben Zubak: On the contrary, I think the fact that we have been so close for a near decade has only added to the allure of rooting for the Eagles. I consider this the buildup that culminates with a Super Bowl victory (Like the Phillies) instead of a regression (like the Sixers).

Question 2: On your profile at The Eagles Perch, the description of yourself says that you'd be "a better GM" for the Eagles. How so?

Ben Zubak: Well who doesn't think they would do a better job than whoever is in charge? My one problem with the front office is their inability to see things from a fan's perspective. Letting Dawkins go in the manner they did is exhibit A in that regard.

Question 3: What are your thoughts on the transactions made in this offseason, and how do you think they'll effect the team's performance?

Ben Zubak: Whenever you have so many long-time vets go, it can be a toss-up as to how the team deals with that and moves on. We have great coaching and great depth to help the transition. I love that moves the Eagles have made so far, but they may not pay off until 2010 when they really gel together.

Question 4: In your opinion, what was the Birds' best offseason move?

Ben Zubak: The trade for Jason Peters. The only thing that kept him down last season was his contract dispute. Now he has a huge contract and the excellent coaching of Juan Castillo.

Question 5: In your opinion, what was the Birds' worst offseason move?

Ben Zubak: I'm not a fan of what has become of the safety position. I understand why they let Brian Dawkins go, I'm ok with that. So you'd think they have a plan in mind to replace him, right? So why sign a handful of guys who could be good? Either they're sold on Quintin Demps or their not. I'm just not confident in that position right now.

Question 6: What is your honest (and early) prediction for the 2009 season?

Ben Zubak: The Eagles need to find some consistency to be really successful this season. I say they win the NFC East and one playoff game, but I don't see them being elite quite yet. The rookies are full of promise and the next few years will be great.

Question 7: What is the fondest Eagles memory you can recall?

Ben Zubak: I loved watching the 2004 season. The whole thing. I was very excited to sign Terrell Owens and Jevon Kearse that year, and watching the Eagles tear it up and run into the Super Bowl was so great. The fans tore into Jacksonville in droves and we made it an Eagles Super Bowl. The fact the we lost still doesn't make it any less of an experience to me.

Question 8: Although it's impossible to sum this up in a brief answer, how would you describe a truly passionate Eagles fan?

Ben Zubak:I think that's it right there. We are truly passionate. Go into a bar on Sunday wearing green and you are treated like family. It's not just in the Philly area either. I know of other cities around the country that have strictly Eagles bars. Being an Eagles fan doesn't fade away, you bleed green for life and that is what I love about us.

So there you have it, Eagles fans. Hope you enjoyed the great Ben Zubak's take on several things regarding our beloved Philadelphia Eagles, and be sure to look for more partnership events that take place with Zubak in the future!

Question 1: People don’t like when you come on bleedinggreennation.com and try to promote your blog. How do you think people will react when you post trying to pimp 2 blogs?

"The Eagles need to find some consistency to be really successful this season."

Or in other words…..

“If the Eagles put up more points than their opponents during each game, they’ll win ballgames!”
.

I hate to be a poopypants, but go out on a limb, brother!

First off, it's rude to pimp your blog and your buddy's blog here

I give JasonB credit for not banning people for blatantly pimping their websites. Actually, I think you should Jason. It’s not like he’s Ray Didinger coming on here, giving an opinion and a link to his site. But, anyways

So in one answer Ben Zubak says:

My one problem with the front office is their inability to see things from a fan’s perspective. Letting Dawkins go in the manner they did is exhibit A in that regard.

But then says:

I understand why they let Brian Dawkins go, I’m ok with that.

Way to take a stand on an issue. So should they have kept Dawkins or not? I also disagree with his point that they didn’t have a plan. Seems to me that Sean Jones and Quintin Demps are a decent plan to replace Dawkins given the circumstances. It’s not like Ed Reed was available. I admit that I’m a fan and will gripe about the front office’s moves. But Banner, Reid, etc cannot worry about what the fans think when making personnel moves.

Sometimes it's just fun to take the family for a spin around the lake in the old boat. Even if it's not your family or your boat, and they're screaming for you to stop.
