A Big No No EA!

I love the madden franchise. And up to now I thought they have actually been fair. Some of the players in 09 were over rated. But this is where they got it wrong.

CB Joselio Hanson

10 ranking: 75, 09 ranking: 78.  He did ok, why is he lower?

FB Leonard Weaver

10: 82, 09: 87.  Arguably, one of the top FB's in the NFL right now.

ILB Stewart Bradley

10: 77, 09: 79. He's one of the best LB's in our divison.

DeSean Jackson

10: 81, 09: 78. Eh...should have been an 85

Kevin Curtis

10: 76, 09: 89. He was phenomenal last year. EA was too generous last year, but a legit 2nd WR. At least a 79.

Quintin Demps

I'm actually more angry about him than stewart bradley. 09: 73, 10: 68. WTF???

It doesn’t make much sense that those first 3 players who very clearly improved their game last year, would see their rating go down.

That said, I did hear that EA did adjust their whole rating system so that might have something to do with it.

10 pts

The way i understood it they slid the ratings back 10 pts to open up the range. So a guy at 85 last year is 75 this year, the scale is just larger. He’s got the same rating. So if the number is less then 10 pts less then the ‘09 rating, then they’re actually rated higher then they were last year. Gotta look at some other players to compare it. Everyones complaining that our ratings went down but we’re still rated higher then most other teams in the NFC, so i think its just the perception that they did us dirty.

"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

They changed their rating system this year. I think they said that there were too many players in the 75 to 100 range so they rescaled everyone and now those same players land in the 65 to 100 range on the new scale.

Yea

You can’t really compare the 09 to 10 stats and claim there was a drop.. they’ve re-centered the means so that an average score really looks average, and the elite stand out. That being said, they messed up on our LBs… and ranked them 31st in the league, I don’t think so.

There will be roster updates as well

Last year DJax got bumped up during the season, hopefully our LB’s will get the love they deserve.

I’ve beaten this horse in other posts, but here are two links which explain why almost all player ratings go down this year relative to last.
First why they re-rated everyone (LINK)
and second what that might end up meaning in practice (LINK)

I think we’ve seen the horse you’ve beaten.. and some of us understand that they’ve downgraded everyone.. and that’s fine. But have you looked at horse that has our LBs at 31st. 70s and ranked mid pack would make sense, since everyone is lower. But should they be (almost) lowest?… i don’t think so.

I don’t know if that’s fair or not, but let’s think about it just a bit.
Jordan, Bradley and Gocong.
What other team’s fan can name any one of those three, let alone two…
There is a fairly large component of name recognition that goes into the EA rating scale and I think that’s fine.
Sure Stew has numbers that compare favorably to the top Mikes in the league, but he’s a 3rd year player who has never been to a pro-bowl. Compare that to Ray Lewis, Patrick Willis or Brian Urlacher – what EA really thinks about Bradley will be witnessed by how easy he is to improve in the Franchise Mode – i.e. how much upside does he have?

Then, what about Gocong or Jordan?
I for one am not sold on Jordan at Will… His numbers for the games he started compare favorably, but is it really fair to ask that he be rated as highly as Lance Briggs?
And Gocong is a big question mark to me still as well. I think Chris was a major part of our ability to stuff the run last year, but he was such a liability against the TE that Quintin had to take over that coverage responsibility by like week 5 last year.

Whatever, It does seem a bit off that our starting LB corps be ranked below the Lions, but these guys are young and as the season goes on – if they play well – they will get better.

ok so lets assume

that the madden rating move everyone(on adverage) down 5 points that means on last years madden rating system this years rating would be

Hanson: 80
Weaver: 87
Bradley: 82
Jackson:86
Curtis: 81
Demps: 73

This is of course with the understanding that they changes the rating system this year.

If Madden came out with these rating what would you think.

I just think it's ridiculous that

Crabtree is an 85 and Desean is an 81.
