Visiting the Linc

I am going to be visiting the Linc on Sept 27 to see my Chiefs play there.  Essentially, what I want to know is how can I make it out alive.  I've always had some love for the Iggles, one of only two NFC teams I have any real liking for (the other being the Bears cuz I lived in Chicago as a kid).  The Eagles and Chiefs have some common threads, our old HC Herm Edwards was a DB for you guys during Vermeil's tenure as HC.  And of course Vermeil was our HC at one point too.  Anyhow, I'm a Chiefs fan first and foremost and will be wearing my road uni while at the Linc.  I won't be obnoxious, but I'll definitely cheer if and when my Chiefs score.  I am thinking I should be safe, as the prospects of the Chiefs winning are rather dim and its not like we're an in conference team that would be hated for any reason by Philly fans, but I guess I was wondering if there are any precautionary recommendations you guys had to help one fan of good football survive the Linc experience.

dont taunt them either. I was at the home eagles versus giants game, and some dude was doing the mocking eagle arm flap. Someone called secruity on him and the giants fan and the gaurd got in a huge fight and had to drag them out of the stands.

Don’t be a dick and you’ll be alright. There is no real hate between the Eagles and Chiefs as long as you don’t start shit the most that will happen is people will yell at you (and it will be offensive).

I don't think you'll get a lot of crap for a few reasons...

1) It’s early in the season. I think it’s Week 3? The sun is out, people are generally happy. The season is just getting underway… The later into the season it gets, the more you would hear.

2) It’s the Chiefs, not the Cowboys/Giants. We only play you guys once every 4 years, not it’s not like there’s any rivalry there whatsoever.

3) The Chiefs are garbage. If it were the Chargers coming here, maybe some people get a little riled up by an opposing jersey, but not the Chiefs. Also, the chance of the Chiefs winning that game is low, and you’d be more likely to get abuse from Eagles fans in an Eagles loss.

4) The road (white) uni will blend in better. Less visible than the red jersey. The red jersey may as well be like the cape the bullfighters use.

5) Philly fans are definitely passionate, but our nationally known “thug reputation” is WAY overblown.

I think you might hear chants of “Asssss… hooooole… Assssss… hooooole…” but little else.

I appreciate the insights

I figured I’d be pretty safe as long as I don’t pick fights.

Anyhow, I’ve never been to Philly before so I’m looking forward to seeing the city. Any recommendations on what to visit while there, where to stay, and what to avoid? And do you guys know if Big Charlie’s Saloon in South Philly is still around?

Check out Camden, NJ...

It’s right on the other side of the Walt Whitman bridge (the bridge closest to the stadium). It’s the prettiest town in America.

Haha, just kidding...

Camden NJ makes Compton CA look like the nicest place on Earth – If you were blindfolded for 24 hours and flown/driven around, and they dropped you off in Camden, you’d never believe you were in America.

Anyway, if you’re there a short time, I’d stick to the Olde City district… Lots of bars and restaurants, and historical attractions.

Also, if you’re in Philly for a day or 2 AFTER the Eagles game, you should check out the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies. They have a homestand beginning that Monday with the Astros.

Thats gonna be a tough one for me

being a Dodgers fan and all, I’m still a little bitter about last year’s NLCS.

I guess you’re not a Matt Stairs fan either then, huh?

You have to respect a guy who is not afraid to admit he likes getting his ass hammered on by guys

Also +1 on Olde City.

I don't know Sudden?

As you would be the opposition, this could be a health risk? I mean, as a Giants fan and i’ve been posting over here recently, they’ve been kind to me, but what happens when and if they’re all “tailgated up”, and in person? Thats risky!

LOL, j/k Eagle fans. You seem like good guy/gals shootin the BS about your team. As a Giants fan though, i would think twice or more about it, unless Bye, Dawk or JIBTA were my bodyguards! lol

JIBTA would be an amazing bodyguard.

The sheer preposterousness of his opinions would drive away any hostile Eagles fan

My advice....

Make a few friends at tailgate that are wearing Eagles Jerseys. I think that if you were at least walking with Eagles fans, you’ll be abused much less. Even if they dont know you’re not really with them.
Otherwise, just maintain the tact that you brought here. You really shouldnt have any issues.

by GreenInBaltimore on Jun 26, 2009 3:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

past that....

I think that Home team fans are generally better with visiting fans when they are actually from the visitors city.

I'm not quite from KC

I was born there, but have lived most of my life in Southern California. Then again, I suppose no one will really know that on first glance.

youll be fine if...

you dont start shit. Last year northphillykid and i did a game and some idiot white boy (im white its ok) had on a Bolding jersey and the whole way up the concourse he kept running his mouth… he was clearly drunk out of his head…

so thats my pointer… dont get ripped at a tailgate party or something that will cause you to run your mouth.

But above all… the worst thing… and i mean the worst thing you can do in philly is get pissed off about the “asshole” cheer and get combative about it. Do that once and they’ll heckle you to death all day.

Like someone else said, make some friends with eagle fans that day and u’ll find that A) you’ll be fine and have a good time, and B) you’ll find out that the national media’s portrayal of Eagles fans is BS. Like 95% of us are good guys.

But that said… come to link and an oppossing color and act like u own the place and you’re in trouble

Have a good time bro!

You're going to get stabbed.

There’s just no way you can avoid it.

I suggest you wear some sort of chain mail under your jersey.

I’m just kidding, you’ll be fine. Like Bye Dawk said, people will chant “Asshole” at you, but that’s it. I don’t think there’s really any dislike of the chiefs.

I went to a game at the Vet (where things were a bit rougher) with a guy in a Texans jersey, and that was all that happened to him.

As long as you don’t go out of your way to taunt people, and ignore any assholes, you’ll be fine. You’ll be able to tell the many who are just harmlessly kidding around vs. the few (which I think you’re unlikely to even see) who may want to start trouble.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

Good idea for tailgating, too. Get something nice, and give the dudes tailgating next to you some beer.

(I went to the Eagles vs. Browns game at Cleveland in ’04, and we made some tailgating friends by giving the Browns friends next to us some Yuengling — they saw we had cans of lager and acted like it was the Holy Grail or something)

Crab Fries

make sure to get Chickie & Pete’s Crab Fries, your life will change forever.

Don’t be obnoxious, you can cheer, but no stupid chants or rubbing in our face if we lose, or are losing, just cheer for your team and yo should be fine, it’s not any important game since it’s early in the season, but be prepared to be booed/yelled at by drunken fans, but probably nothing big
