doubting kevin kolb?

I read an article on espn insider about the eagles releasing vetrans and how its worked out for them.  (trotter, douglas, taylor, and vincent) but the truly interestering part of the article came at the very bottom.  This is what it had to say about kevin kolb-

"Our Lewin Career Forecast system, which projects quarterback performance based on games started  and completion percentage in college, pegs Kevin Kolb as the second-most promising quarterback prospect of the decade (behind only Philip Rivers). "

i did not know that at all and even thought that forecast system means absolutely nothing in the nfl, it does give me a little hope for the future.

here is the link for anyone with insider

nice info

Hopefully this is promising, but I don’t see Kolb playing unless McNabb gets injured, which I hope doesn’t happen. I won’t make judgements till I see him play with a few games under his belt

WOW

thats pretty cool…i heard on ESPN radio that there was an article in Philly about them possibly shopping Kolb. I hope not. I really like the idea of this kid knowing the offense and the coaches before he starts his first game.

It seems like the coaches and players all think highly of him. I saw a sheldon brown interview after the ravens game and he said he went up to every player in the locker room and apologized. Sheldon went on to say that he thinks he’ll be real good. I think everybody thinks he sucks just because he played bad in his first meaningful game of his career against one of the best defenses in the league.

While hoping this is true...

…I’m a little suspicious of a forecasting system that only takes into account two (!) variables. Wouldn’t it even take into account YPA? Otherwise a QB who consistently dumps it off for four years with an insanely high (and inflated) completion percentage would therefore be forecasted to be the top QB in the NFL. This is a little fishy if I’m understanding it correctly

Anywho, I see Kolb sitting on the bench for the next two years unless something happens to McNabb (God forbid). It sucks for him, but he’ll only be 26ish when his time comes.

Yup...

The college spread offense runs a ton of bubble screens, which are basically glorified hand-offs. Going simply on completion percentage and the number of games started tells me very little.

I like how it’s called the “Lewin Career Forecast System,” too, as if it’s some complicated metric that was concocted by a brilliant mind. I think I’m going to invent the “Bye Dawk QB Quantitative System of Numerology Metrics,” which measures the number of Super Bowls a QB has won.

(And note – I’m not busting your balls, Djacknmac. It’s interesting to note that Kolb did have a high completion % and started a ton of games – I’m just making fun the fact that the “Lewin System” is basically comprised of 2 really basic stats)

That said, I’m very confident in Kolb. From what I’ve read about him, I like his mental makeup, and I’m hoping he’s as talented as the Eagles say he is.

Kolb in Redzone

is apparently very very good in practice, picking apart the eagles starting defense on scout team; not making a joke either, I’ve honestly read about this a few times. It’s nice to hear that, but the endzone pick against baltimore is tough to erase from my memory, though that’s obviously (as we’ve all said before) not exactly a fair “opportunity” to give to someone like Kolb. I still belive he can become a great quarterback one day, regardless of whether or not he’s given us reason to belive so. You gotta consider that the coaches are gonna see things that even the most avid birds fans simply wont. Say what you’d like about the fact that we’ve never won a superbowl, but I trust our coaching staff.

Yeah, John Harbaugh (current Ravens HC, and former Eagles secondary coach) said that in an interview.

Sorry

I just essentially rewrote what you wrote above before I read your post.

if we dont hear a peep out of kevin for the two years

im buying a jersey the day he starts , we realy owe this guy respect for having talent to start and being “mostly lol” patient about it …

I think

he is the Quarterback of our future and I like the way he carries himself.
A couple extra years on the 2nd team can only help.
He should want to start and work hard and be accountable.
I love McNabb, but when the day comes that Kolb is in, I’m behind him 100% just like I am with Donovan now.

I like Kolb a lot

i hope they do not shop him. However, if we could get the missing piece to even one super bowl win, i’d trade him in a second. I dont care what his upside is… at this point i want ONE so bad, that i’d trade a shot at 3 or 4 for one guaranteed.

But since there are no guarantees…

8 games in 8-0 we goin.

I think Kolb

could be good. I really do, but sadly for him it’ll either be the Aaron Rogers scenerio, Matt Schaub scenerio or bust.. I hope its the Aaron Rogers one without the 6-10 season.

some people have tried to knock Kolb for his arm strength, saying that he can't throw the bomb like McNabb

Thats not really an issue for me because I remember a couple years ago, Morningwheg managed to scheme an offense around Jeff Garcia’s arm and that turned out much better than anybody expected.

About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

he throws a great deep ball….. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtNnBhmczjo&feature=related

"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

oh yeah

supposedly when Kolb played in college he moved around like Garcia, but what people dont know is kolb is pretty athletic.. just youtube his name and watch a couple.. I know highlight tapes are supposed to make you look good but some of them stand out.
