Whats the best football movie ever?
I must admit, I have been extremely bored lately. And there hasn't been any significant Eagles news for some time. This is a really rough time of the seasons, and I have notice that this site has gotten significantly less responses to posts. Probrably because the everything is sooo slow. So lets pick up the pace a little and have some fun. Lets talk about whats the best football movie you have ever seen? Something that made you want to strap on the pads and run outside ready to know over the first street lamp you saw.
Lets have fun with this one guys.

My favorite is The Program
Lattimer was one crazy cat. I think he was based on Bill Romanowski.
My brother tried to get me to lay in the middle of the street. But I wasn’t that crazy. Not sure if he ever did it though. My brother is nuts, I bet he did.
Does anyone remember this movie?

I have to say, I did like Any Given Sunday, but Oliver Stone’s jump cuts always get to me. I get the sense that he doesn’t actually want me to watch his movies because he never just lets you see the movie. Rather, he jumps around all the time so I feel like this must be the way a grasshopper sees the world. A grasshopper on exstacy.

Invincible & Replacements
Finally saw Invincible the other day.. and really enjoyed it. I should have seen it earlier.
And from left field, if you’re truly bored… try The Replacements. It’s full of cheese, but it entertains… I love rewatching it.. From the kicker, the ‘dancers’ turned cheerleaders, Madden being Madden, and Neo (I know Kung Fu-tball!) trying to be a QB… it’s great fun for a lazy day.

“The original release of the film contained a scene where several ESU players lay on the yellow dividing line of a busy local road as a test of their courage. When two young men were killed, and several others injured, by imitating the stunt, Buena Vista excised the scene from the film. No post-theatrical versions of the movie feature the sequence, leading many to speculate that the studio destroyed the actual camera negatives scene.”

One of the greatest scenes in any sports movie.
My brother tried that, I was like, dude you are crazy, you do that. Theres no way I would lay in the middle of the road.
Its a shame that some of the younger people lever got a chance to see that scene. I thinks its gone for ever. (Unless You tube has it somewhere)

All the Right Moves – Early 80’s movie with Tom Cruise pre-insanity
Longest Yard – Original version with Burt Reynolds
Any Given Sunday – It has some cheesey moments, but overall I liked it
The Waterboy
Varsity Blues – another movie that has a cheese factor, but I was still entertained
Rudy – I’m not a Notre Dame fan, but I get a little pumped up watching that. I wonder how accurate it was, considering the “accuracy” of Invincible.
I really did not like The Replacements, but I did like the cheerleaders in it.

I met the real Rudy once. He was coming to speak at my old high school, and I was late so I had to go to the office for a “late pass,” and Rudy was sitting there. I talked to him for a minute or so… He was a bit of a douche.

I’m interested, why was he a douche?
by Baron Dainer Von Tresvant on Jun 23, 2009 10:55 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He did a motivational speech for the entire high school, and this is going back years, but I remember all he talked about was how he was trying to get a second movie made based around all the hurdles he had to overcome to get Rudy made (I’m not kidding). Nothing he said to me in our brief meeting was douchey, but he really came across as a self-serving jackass in his speech.
by Bye, Dawk :( on Jun 23, 2009 11:07 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Could you imagine the trailer for the Rudy sequel?
(Deep voice, movie announcer guy):
Imagine a man, who barely had enough athletic ability to make it onto the scout team roster gets a movie made about his determination to make it onto the field during junk time for a Notre Dame game. Now, see the adversity he overcame to have a movie made about the original adversity he overcame. How much adversity-overcoming can you take?
Guess Rudy ran out of gas since he could not overcome the adversity to make a second movie about all of the first set of adversity.
by Baron Dainer Von Tresvant on Jun 23, 2009 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
hilarious.
I can just picture it with your commentary. The movie will start with the imfamous “Based on a true story”. It starts of with a shot of the aged, overweight Rudy giving an inspirational speach to a gym full of high school students. Then goe goes of into a rant in the schools adminstrations office, with Bye Dawk looming in the corner. All this happening to the soundtrack of Cold Mountain or the Notebook (Not that I’ve ever seen either, because I’m straight). But the trailers with the sad music really get me emotional, you can have that mush playing to the Rudy Sequal.
If done right, it can have a JIBTA cameo, maybe Nick Pampani? Who knows where we can go with this?
Bleed green, or don't bleed at all!
by yophillybro on Jun 23, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I gotta admit
I never heard of the Notebook or Cold Mountain. Does that mean I’m extremely straight or extremely out of it?
I’m also imagining a young Bye Dawk looking all shocked as Rudy pitches a fit that he can’t get a movie made about making a movie. In all seriousness, how ridiculous is it that Rudy wanted to have a movie made about overcoming adversity of getting his first movie made? Dude, there’s a one movie for adversity per person limit. Didn’t you get the memo? We can only take so much of your adversity, already.
