Eagles add local punter Ken Parrish
The Eagles have announced that they've cut undrafted free agent K/P Sam Swank and signed punter Ken Parrish to replace him.
The Eagles have added punter Ken Parrish, from East Stroudsburg University. Parrish was with the 49ers in 2007 during the preseason and then was out of football last year. Parrish worked on his technique in Modesto, CA and worked out for the Eagles earlier this week.
At East Stroudsburg, Parrish (6-1, 210) averaged 40.3 yards per punt and downed 59 of his 174 career punts inside the 20-yard line. He was born in East Stroudsburg, PA.
Parrish grew up in East Stroudsburg which is only about an hour or so north of Lehigh, where the Eagles have their training camp.

I know a lot of these guys are camp bodies, but I wonder if we’re looking to replace an inconsistent Rocca.

Rocca always frustrated me alot. Most of the time he was brilliant, but every now and then he would hit a shank in the worst possible moments. We could definitely use a more constant punter, whether Rocca stops making mistakes or we get someone else who doesn’t.

You’re forgetting that if we puck up a new punter we’re picking up a brand new holder for Akers. It took Rocca and Akers almost an entire season to get on the same page. I would rather they work with Rocca, a guy who we know will get better and has proven to be an excellent positional punter (See Philly v. Pittsburgh), than some guy we don’t know who can’t hold the ball properly for Akers.
Who would you rather see shank more: Akers or Rocca?
And if the holder sucks for Akers he’ll be shanking ’em all day long.

meh
Rocca’s biggest issue was he had never held before. I’m willing to bet this kid has so it’s just timing, not timing and technique as it was with Sav.
I agree the chemistry between snapper/holder/kicker is very important but Sav is like night and day punting I wouldn’t mind the change. Sav can fucking boot the ball though.

Seems like they are bringing in different kickers
Swank, Zach Thiry, now Ken Parrish. Wasn’t there another guy they took a quick look at too?
I also wonder if they are looking to replace Rocca and have a punter who can be a legitimate backup field goal kicker. The fact that they are bringing in different guys tells me they are looking for more than just a camp body.

With all the ridiculously good kick returners we have now, we have to sign a bunch of kickers and punters to give them a good tryout.
