More Eagles make TSN top 20 rankings
The Sporting News along with RealScouts.com has been writing up various lists of their top 20 NFL players at every position. Last week we checked out a number of positions where Eagles ranked amongst the top 20, this week TSN released a few more top 20s where Eagles were featured.
First up is the glamor position on the defense, which is defensive end where Trent Cole ranks #15
15. Trent Cole, Eagles. Cole is extremely athletic, which makes him a perfect fit in the Eagles' zone blitz scheme. He does so many good things within the system against the run and in coverage -- and he has 29 1/2 sacks over the past three seasons.
Not bad for a 5th round pick...
Broderick Bunkley comes in at #18 amongst defensive tackles.
18. Brodrick Bunkley, Eagles. Bunkley is extremely quick off the ball and moves well laterally. Equally disruptive against the run and the pass, he is an improving player who excels in the Eagles' system.
I feel like Mike Patterson has been overlooked here. Not only do I think he was amongst the top 20 DTs last year, I think he was better than Bunkley.
Switching back to offense, new Eagle Leonard Weaver was ranked as the 9th best FB.
9. Leonard Weaver, Eagles. The Eagles' biggest struggles in '08 came in short-yardage situations. Weaver is a power back who can pick up those yards as a runner and be a physical lead blocker for Brian Westbrook, who could use help in deflecting initial contact between the tackles. Weaver, a former tight end, might be the best receiver on this list and regularly makes plays after the catch.
TSN also listed their top 30 outside linebackers which included no Eagles, however most of the list(all but 3 or 4) was dominated by 3-4 OLB pass rushers.

These lists are terrible. They have DEs on the DT list. Kris Jenkins gets left off of the DT list, while Canty is top 5. What a joke. Makes for decent conversation though I guess.

Any top 10 FB list without Lorenzo Neal is a joke
At the old age, he can still play

He'll do wonders for that team
Already had a pretty good rushing attack anyways. I think McFadden will have a big season.

IGOR OLSHANSKY?!?!?!?!?
Trent Cole at 15 is an absolute joke. I also have a major problem with the following players being ranked higher… Patrick Kerney, Kyle Vanden Bosch, John Abraham, Adewale Ogunleye, and Andre Carter.
On a REALLY talented Eagles defense, the one guy that we can least afford to lose is Trent Cole. The author of this list truely had no clue. None whatsoever.

I would probably put
Abraham above Cole. He had 16.5 sacks last year.
Let's get it.

Olshansky
Olshansky is a nice player who benefitted greatly playing next to Haynesworth.

Igor played in San Diego. I love Igor because he was one of my favorite Ducks(not so much anymore now that he is a Cowboy) but there is no way he should be ahead of Cole and if Osi is in the top ten then Trent should be.
I can’t figure out why Patterson isn’t on there but then again I have almost all these rankings have been a joke.

Trent Cole is ranked too damn low,
I mean are you serious, looking at the list with guys who for a span of 3 to 5 or even 2 years, have recorded a combined sack total of 20 or less. Cole is a brute force at his position and constantly plays with a high motor and never tires out. I’ve never watched a game and seen him with his hands on his hips before, he’s always up and ready to attack on every play . The main reason why he doesn’t have as many sacks as a guy like Jared Allen is because they always slid a TE/RB to his side and bump him when the ball is snaped on every play. They always double him in every game and obviously at his position(RE), he’s matched up with LTs, which we all know is the most important position at O-line besides the center. Half of these guys ranked as they are is a joke.

rankings
i looked at the rankings .. the dt arent bad .. they are kinda accurate .. the DE isnt bad either .. osi is low at 7 .. i would put him at 4 .. but the prob is olshansky .. he doesnt even make my top 20 .. that is what stood out .. and andre carter is the same as cole .. pass rusher thats it .. but cole has more sacks .. so i would move cole up two spots

DE list sucks
Richard Seymour “best season since 2003” sucks compare to players below him. Patrick Karney is on the decline. Abraham should be in top ten, with Cole. And Cole is worse than Andre Carter and Adewale Ogunleye!? What? Insane…
Love the opening line. “Here’s the thing to remember about the defensive ends: It’s not only about the pass rush.”
Yet that seem like all he cares about with his list…
Moo.
