Hobbs' Trade No Connection To Brown

Why do the Eagles bother trying to get everybody to think that they are choir boys?  As far as I'm concerned, they don't have to be choir boys.

For instance the report that the Eagles offerred the Cardinals Sheldon Brown and a third round pick sheds light on the fact that the reason they traded for Ellis Hobbs was because of the uncertainty regarding Brown.

Andy Reid said that the trade for Hobbs had nothing to do with Brown's public statements about wanting a new contract.  That's hard to believe after the revelation that they were trying to trade Sheldon.

The fact that they have Hobbs, a veteran cornerback still in the prime of his career, destroys most of the leverage Brown has against the team.  Yes, Brown is better than Hobbs but it seems that the Eagles would be willing to live with the former Patriots corner starting at the right cornerback spot.

They wouldn't be able to trade Brown if they didn't have Hobbs.  Why do they bother denying the fact that acquiring Hobbs is tied to Brown's contract demands?

I don't begrudge them for making a sound business decision.

I think at times the Eagles overdo trying to coverup things that they don't need to cover up.

Why deny the obvious?

Just find a way to win.

I think it might not be in connection

The thing is we aren’t sure about Jacky Ike, so we needed a 4th corner anyway. I agree Hobbs is too good to dime which is a problem because Joselio is the perfect nickel. I think making Sheldon into Lito is not smart for either the team or Sheldon, they robbed the Jets for LS btw. I think the Eagles handled the situation well, but do think Sheldon can have a Jason Taylor effect. Wait till someone like Al Harris of the Packers or Rande Barber of the Bucs goes down, don’t be suprised if during training camp, that we get a 3rd and a 6th for Brown. I also think if Baltimore can’t find a product WR or the Rams can’t find one either, we trade Reggie Brown as he is too talented to be a 4th or 5th wide-out.

Yeah, I’m kind of in the camp of “it’s not related.” As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, we have no idea what Jack Ike can give us… guy hasn’t played a down yet, so we did need to grab a corner at some point in the draft. With that said, at some point in the year, most corners miss a game or two. When that occurs, do you want an untested second year guy or a rookie in on an important down? For the price we paid, I’d much rather know that we have somone that is proven in there.

Say Samuel pulls a hammy and has to miss 6 games. How would you feel about Brown and Hanson starting with Ike/Rookie in on nickel situations? I don’t think I’d be too comfortable with that. Now, worst case scenario, we have some combination of Brown/Hanson/Hobbs (who have all started in the NFL).

I love the Hobbs trade

pending Brown trade/release based on his contract issue (which i doubt happens) we have 4-6 solid contributors playing CB. Hobbs can play special teams, Hanson is a solid nickelback, Hobbs was a solid CB in NE and will be here. If all goes well we have the best secondary in football

To me the Eagles are like that girlfriend that pisses u off, then u hate her, but the next morning you wake up and remember that thing u love so much about her
