Mac and Jack, starting game 1?

I read a post on GCobb.com that got me thinking. Is Curtis going to be ready before the begining of the season? I highly doubt it, if thats the case, who starts along side DJax? Will it be Reggie Brown, or does he get traded or cut before then? Will it be Slot specialist Jason Avant? I think he's not well suited for the outside? I'm not sure if Hank Basket makes the team, Brandon Gibson is supposed to be a really good receiver. Wouldn't surprise me to see Hank get cut. Than that leaves us with all-world rookie Jeremy Maclin. The word is that the coaches have been riding Maclin, making sure he is ready to play. Maybe they expect him to start along side DJax game 1. If so, Curtis is gonna have to play the slot coming back. I think he is cut next year because of his contract.

Because of the money he will be getting paid. I think it's like 6Mil for next year.

I dunno if he gets cut but if he does that would be the reason.

he'd get traded before he would get cut...

but neither will happen… not unless curtis becomes a train wreck. i would love to see curtis play the slot and become our version of wes welker.

Did you? Funny, I know thats a name that been floating around, maybe you started it, who knows.

I think Curtis gets cut because he’s due to make 5 mil, 4.3 is not guaranteed, only .7 mil is guaranteed. After that, he is scheduled to make 7.7 mil w/ only .3 guaranteed. I doubt you pay that kind of money to a slot receiver. Unless he comes back and play, he would have been injury prone (injured in 2 straight seasons), and he would have lost his starting job to Maclin. And we already have Avant for the slot. Do you pay 5 mil to Curtis to stay? I highly doubt it.

I think Maclin is already our second starter while Curtis is out. Unless they start Avant for a while with Maclin in the slot for a bit. Either way Maclin is gonna get some major clock.

No, on 2 counts

Maclin will not start to open the season because Curtis will be ready. Curtis will supposedly be ready by July. Further on that issue, Curtis will not be cut this year. Maybe if Maclin develops well, and Curtis declines ALOT, then maybe next year…maybe.

But 2 years ago Curtis was our best receiver, and even last year he was very productive once he came back.

Maclin has a lot of hype surrounding him, but his playing time is all speculative. Rookie receivers tend not to be productive…DJAX was an exception, and while I expect big things for Maclin, I’m tempering those expectations until later in the season

I concur

I think Maclin will develop great, but will take time.
Jackson was an anomoly, Love him!
Curtis will be good to go before camp.
Avant was coming off of his surgery last year for his Sports Hernia too,
I think he will step it up this year too.

Jackson wan't too much of an anomoly.

He really only played because of injury to Brown and Curtis. Who knows how many good receivers did not get the kind of opportunity that Jackson. Jackson got his chance and made the best of it. But lets be real, if weren’t for injury, would Jackson have started, and would we be talking about how fast he learned, and how he was an anomoly.

You're right

Half of a rookie’s chance to shine is talent, the other half is opportunity. That’s why I commented as I did on Ewizzy’s “Good Hands” post. Jackson had both talent and opportunity, I don’t think Maclin gets the opportunity that Jackson had last year.

If he gets cut that would be next year.

I think it goes down like last year

early injuries (Curtis) force rookie (Maclin) into starting job.
Rookie (Maclin) impresses greatly
When injured player (Curtis) comes back rookie (Maclin) keeps starting job

Is REGGIE gone.

is he getting cut you think, that would be a some change they would have to swallow. Does he start over Mack.

Good Question

But I think the coaches are really down on him, especially considering the fact that he was not on the NFCCG roster last season. I don’t think he gets cut, but he’ll def be relegated to a situational/backup role.

If Curtis is not ready for the start of the season, it TOTALLY depends on Maclin’s camp performance. If he’s good to go, then I see Mac, Jackson, Avant…if he’s taking awhile to develop, Brown will probably get another opportunity to show what he can do.

he's making 3 plus if he stays. We eat about 5 or 6 if he rolls.

That about 3 mil difference. I thing we just eat those 3 mil difference. You can look at it like, wow we are getting slammed 5 mil on the cap if he’s cut. Yeah, thats true, but you still gotta pay him 3 plus if he stays. So his only has a difference of a little more than 3 Mil. We ate 4 to cut Kearse.

I would LOVE if it were true

I just have a feeling we were way spoiled with jackson this year. I think this team would be blessed if Maclin caught 40 balls for about 500 yards and a few TDs.

Im guessing if Curtis goes down Brown gets in the #2 spot based on experience.

cant say too much...

We need to see these guys out there playing before we say anything. We have all the talent needed at that position but its too early to pick the starting roles.

but…
Djax will start for sure, i dont like Brown (never have) starting over Curtis or Avant when healthy, Mac will eventually take the main role at WR i believe once he learns the playbook and gets his timing right with #5. I honestly believe we have soo much talent its going to be hard to get the ball to everyone.

CURTIS

A HEALTHY CURTIS HAS A CAREER YEAR THIS SEASON. DOESN’T GET CUT OR TRADED. HE’S TOO GOOD WHEN HE’S HEALTHY.

Maclin will undoubtedly be starting Game 1. I will take bets on that!!!

My twist on this is that I dont believe he will be starting at reveiver. I think he will be one of our return men.
At WR…. He’ll get worked into the rotation, and by mid-season he will be fighting for a larger role/starting spot due to some injuries.
