Report: Vontae Davis visited Eagles

PFT is reporting that CB Vontae Davis from Illinois has visted with the Eagles

Davis previously visited the New England Patrots, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills. He has had private workouts with the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns and the Miami Dolphins.

Davis is seen by many as the top corner prospect in the draft, jumping up some draft boards ahead of Malcolm Jenkins.

Mocking the Draft Scouting Report on Vontae Davis

6'0, 204 pounds | Illinois | Cornerback

Strengths:
Davis is the perfect combination of size and speed for a cornerback. He possesses the speed to stick with the fastest receivers and the size to matchup with the biggest. Unlike most cornerbacks, Davis likes to make a hit and is a sound tackler. Very good ball skills, even though teams rarely threw at him in 2008. Has the size to play at safety if needed.

Weaknesses: Has a questionable work ethic and attitude. Benched at one point during his junior year. Played in a cover-2 scheme that doesn't fit his strengths. Against the pass, was much better as a sophomore. Will sometimes play too aggressively by taking unnecessary chances on the ball. Needs to improve his technique some, particularly flipping his hips and running with receivers.

Final word: A semifinalist for the Thorpe Award this year, Davis has al the physical tools needed to excel in the NFL. However many, including Illinois head coach Ron Zook, have questioned his heart. Davis has all the tools but could be a risky pick.

i wouldn’t necessarily say so… right now, Sheldon is older than Taylor was when Sheldon was drafted. We have a player in Jack that has yet to step foot on an NFL field and we have no idea what the physical ramifications of his surgery will be… the Eagles highly value CBs… if we keep both our 1st round picks and he’s there at 28, 10 to 1 says we grab him

"I tried to run him over but Eli had his big boy pads on and he kind of stopped me from getting in the end zone. The next time I’ll try to jump over his head.’’ - Asante Samuel

It’s true. If the Eagles under Reid have shown anything… They love lineman on either side of the ball and corners… So it wouldn’t shock me to see them take a guy like Davis.

Agreed

QBs, CBs, and Lineman are the things we value very highly. With the prospects out there this is the main reason why I think people are dreaming that we go RB in the first.

Yeah it’s definitely plausible, question, if this happens do you think it gives any incite into Ikegwuonu’s rehab or is it just what the Eagles do?

I dont like this

10. If you need a cornerback in this draft, sit it out. There are no corners even well above average, never mind great. -Mike Mayock

so I would rather use a lower pick than what we would have to use on this guy
