Eagles work out Pat White

When I raised the possibility of the Birds picking up Mike Vick, I thought he'd be an interesting project as a wildcat/ returner/slot guy. Now it seems they have the same thought about Pat White.

I have to admit, the thought of  a guy like that is intriguing. Maybe a fourth round reach? How about a low third round? We have so many freaking draft picks, I can't keep them straight!

Hmmm, I wonder how D-Mac would feel about drafting another QB?

He'll Probably be a project

He’ll learn from one of the best & most versatile qb’s (in his prime). & he could be a WR like randal el, & would be a nice trick play asset that Reid would like & overall, i like the pick, good arm, versatile, really like him as a future qb, mcnabbs getting old, it’s inevitable, but i still want to see him win a superbowl

I said a while back that we should draft a QB around the 4th round to challenge Feeley for the #3 spot. I think White is definitely worth a shot. Plus, I love his versatility.

I think he’s gone in the late 2nd or in the 3rd. I would really like this if it happened.

What does that mean for Kolb?

If the FO is working out a qb for the draft does that mean they are unsure about Kolb as a future QB?

Many people think Pat White will play WR in the NFL.

I think Kevin’s got plenty to worry about in his own game. He hasn’t shown much in his opportunities.

would do wonders for my madden game.

Pat White

I don’t think the Eagles will get him unless he falls further than I expect.
I’d have preferred Slaton last year honestly after watching Slaton during his WVU days and watching him torch Rutgers. ugh.

Foos ... where are you?

hehehe… i’m sittin on that email i sent you and seeing what plays out… you’re my witness though.

"I tried to run him over but Eli had his big boy pads on and he kind of stopped me from getting in the end zone. The next time I’ll try to jump over his head.’’ - Asante Samuel

I could see us getting him in the forth round, but no sooner.

That said if he can sit and learn as a 3rd QB and maybe run a few “wildcat plays”. The guy is a leader and might end-up as a very good QB given the chance to evolve as a QB. You can’t teach leadership…

by Smallbugger on Apr 8, 2009 12:49 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He can't do both

The 3rd QB can’t step on the field on until Q4, otherwise the starting QB isn’t allowed back in the game until Q4. That’s why Koy Detmer was #2 for so many years. As the holder on Field Goals, he couldn’t be #3 otherwise McNabb would be out of the game immediately. White would have to be officially listed at WR or RB, and serve as an unofficial 4th QB.

very true.

Actually...

The 3rd QB can come on the field at any point if he’s on the active roster. The rule exists because most teams put the 3rd QB on the inactive list for most games. If he’s on the 46 man active list, he can come in and go out of the game at any point in time.

by wildcatlh on Apr 8, 2009 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

also true

Many teams were only carrying 2 QBs and the rule for an emergency QB was put in place so teams could carry a 45 man active roster and dress an emergency QB (46). In 1995 the rules was changed so that the emergency QB can play in the fourth quarter and the 1st and 2nd QBs can return. If the emergency QB is used before the 4th then the 1st and 2nd stringers cannot return.

I suppose you could have a 45 man active roster with 3 QBs but there is a reason teams don’t do that. They could list Pat White as a WR/RB and not have to worry about it, considering he would probably be a returner too.

Remember “the body bag” game when Brian Mitchell came in as QB for the Redskins against us I think he scored a TD too.

Great info!

I had no idea they had all these restrictions regarding QB’s coming in and out of games!

Loooooook here brotha'.....who you jivein' with that Cosmic Debris!!!???

could he possibly be the next RANDALL CUNNINGHAM?

Pat White sure has the lankyness like him.

by Metang3 on Apr 8, 2009 1:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Lets try Kolb out at WR

On a serious note, i wouldnt mind having pat white on the team. It will give us some versitility on offense. I dont think it would worry mcnabb too much though. McNabb is our #1 no questions asked.

by andyb on Apr 8, 2009 2:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Get Him

I would take him in 4th round and Donovan would not mind becasue he is not a true QB so he got nothing to worry, he can return kicks and play a RB and some WR and another plus he can throw a ball so run some fake runs and then throw.

by EAGLES4LIFE on Apr 8, 2009 3:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

he won’t be there in the 4th.

i've actually wanted this to happen for quite some time.

he would be a shoe in for QB3 and he brings incredible mobility(no one knows it, but the kid can run.) it would be like mc nabb in the old days. i don’t think he’ll be there in the 4th. but if he was he would be worth the pick, in my opinion. i actually think he’ll go to miami in the 3rd.

Who doesn’t know White can run haha

I think it would be a mistake to draft White for the wildcat since I think the wildcat won’t work this year.

by The Legend on Apr 8, 2009 6:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed, unless they think this kid can be a big time WR, I’m not interested in a trick play QB/WR. And I’m definitely not interested if he’s going 3rd round.

by FredEx on Apr 8, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i think it would be a great idea to pick up white in the draft besides the fact he is versatile he is kinda like a young mcnabb. He can scramble if he needs to and throw. Is accuracy is off a little but there is plenty of time to work on that while McNabb still is ready to go. He could also turn into a playmaker with fakeplays and regular plays due to his speed and arm strength

by diavoloskier on Apr 9, 2009 11:35 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I see White as a terrific downfield wide receiver. He’s really tall and fast, with a lot of open-field wiggle. Using a late-round pick on him wouldn’t be so bad to experiment, but I’d only take him if he slid really far. Using anything higher than a 4th or maybe even 5th would be foolish.
