Time to Close the Burress Chapter

For everyone who thought we might be getting Burress, the idea gets less likely every day. In fact, it gets less likely every day for every team.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4045389

"Burress, who the police report said was driving like "he was going to kill somebody," was issued a $150 speeding citation, his fifth traffic ticket in Florida in the past month, the report said."

It's not so much the cost of the tickets as it is the fact that Burress has been collecting citations for doing illegal things amidst a serious trial. I doubt he gets off lightly, it seems as though he's doing all that he can to get the full 3.5 years for the gun charge.

Pretty sad story overall.

Another story of an athlete who never understood how lucky and privileged he was to play football for a living. Kudos to the giants for doing what they needed to do with one of football’s most classless players.

My thoughts exactly. How can anyone take that kind of opportunity for granted?

Worse yet...

He’s in the middle of one of his biggest trials of his life and all he is showing is that he doesn’t give a shit.. what a dumb ass!

not that i ever thought we were getting burress or that i even wanted him

Just wanted to say that a 150 dollar ticket was most likely about 10-14 mph over. Thats really not that bad. Most of us probably are 10 over when driving on a highway or open road.

i just checked the story

link on espn.com

here are some lines from the article…

Burress, who faces a 3½-year prison sentence on the gun charge, replied to each of the officer’s questions and commands with an “[expletive] you” during the stop, the newspaper reported, citing police.
According to the police, a “violent and aggressive” 31-year-old Burress was asked to get out of his car in order to be checked for weapons.
Burress also received tickets for going 60 mph in a 45 mph zone, improper tags, improper lane change and improper window tinting on March 1, the Post reported.

You cannot possibly exist

You’re either a comic genius, or a complete moron.

I’m leaning towards the former, because like I stated before, no one could possibly be you.

by cwel87 on Apr 6, 2009 2:36 PM EDT up reply actions

sounds like you'll have to give him money for nothin then

cause this guy’s goin to prison for a while. By the time he gets out he’ll be mid 30s and football free for three years. That really a guy you want???

by Alon on Apr 6, 2009 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions

wow...

plax is a good player, but a complete moron who’s about to go to prison… and he will get the 3.5 years after allegedly cursing out a cop for getting a ticket. you’d have to be on crack to want him on your team.

by awd777 on Apr 6, 2009 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Don't forget...

Nope, I’m not gonna do it. That’s just what this guy does. He does it on every post. He’ll say something retarded and controversial and before you know it, this post will branch off in 20 directions of nonsense, arguing about TO’s numbers or something stupid. I’m not gonna do it this time.

As for the post on Burress, I haven’t seen anyone (except that guy) who thinks the Birds should pursue this POS who WILL be going to jail. Total waste of money for anyone who signs him. He has some kind of complex where he just has to keep fucking up, like a child testing his limits. Pretty stupid since he is facing a min. 3 1/2 years with the current charge, and Mayor Bloomberg looking to “throw the book at him”, he isn’t making a very good case for a plea bargain. How many times has he gotten in trouble since he shot himself?

I'd Take Burress

Now you found another person who thinks the Eagles should pursue Burress. He is a huge talent, who has proven that he can produce when it counts. Even ignoring the stats, look at the influence he had on the Giants offense. He commands a double team every time he is on the field which does wonders for the running game. Forget a FB, forget better lineman, put Burress out there and our running game will improve guaranteed.

Now I am not saying that we should go out and give him a 3 year deal at $25 million with a $10 million signing bonus, but if no one goes after him right away, why not express some interest to his agent, let them know if things work out we would love to have him, he feels wanted, and if things do work out – wham – super bowl here we come.

by hratner on Apr 6, 2009 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions

He is going to JAIL

Make no doubt about it, HE IS GOING TO JAIL. I don’t doubt his talent, but the man is going to jail. The only person in the NFL (unfortunately) that is crazy enough to risk signing the guy is Jerry Jones. All we can hope for is that he is so ruined by the time he gets out of jail, he will be no real threat to us. You have to admit it, he has Cowgirls written all over him.

Plexiglass probably won't enjoy prison very much.

Remember, it took Jamal Lewis two full years before he stopped waddling when he ran.

Imagine what will happen to poor Plaxico!

by cwel87 on Apr 6, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

i dont think so

if ray lewis can kill someone and get away with it .. plax can get away with shooting himself .. no harm done .. i think he gets 60 days tops .. n he deffently plays again .. hes a stud redzone target and he would be cheap .. i would take him in a heart beat .. i dont care if you are a thug and steal cars at nite .. if you score 10 tds for me ill have a spot for you

yup… because there’s not rules or anything that cause players to miss games when they screw up… or fine teams for employing these individuals… yup… btw, how did Adam Jones and Tank work out this year?

tank

tank turned out to be a nice addition .. jones never was all that .. and even if he gets 8 games to a year .. he still has a few years left

by jack is better than asante on Apr 7, 2009 6:13 PM EDT up reply actions

tank was garbage...

he played all 16 games, started only 1 of them, had only 1 sack, and 22 tackles (that’s 1.375 tackles per game)… garbage.

by awd777 on Apr 7, 2009 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions

hes a dt ..

he clogs up the middle and allows the lbs to make plays .. ware was good wasnt he .. how good was ted washington back in the day .. never had huge stats .. bunkley and patterson arnt stat monsters either and they are very good .. well bunkley is anyways .. probowl type .. patterson and laws are both solid

by jack is better than asante on Apr 7, 2009 11:35 PM EDT up reply actions

first off...

they didn’t catch ray lewis in the act and there wasn’t enough physical evidence to find ray lewis guilty… that’s why he was let off. it’s been proven that plax shot himself with a gun that was illegally in his possession. he also curses out police, doesn’t show up to meetings, and has a blatant disrespect for authority. this dude is potentially worse than your hero, t.o. you can’t have a guy like this on your football team, because your team will never win. look at the most trouble making wide receivers… t.o., randy moss, chad johnson… all of them have tremedous talent, but none of them have a superbowl win.

by awd777 on Apr 7, 2009 7:16 AM EDT up reply actions

wait

didnt plax catch the winning td at the superbowl .. cant win huh? hes a differnce maker .. so are all them guys .. moss should of won two superbowls .. not his fault the vikings missed that field goal .. and the patriots should of beat the giants .. TO was the man in the superbowl for us .. and chad is stuck in cincy

by jack is better than asante on Apr 7, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions

ummm....

i didn’t mention plax not winning a superbowl. plus… even if i did, plax’s bad behavior didn’t start until after he won the superbowl. so… and i’ll use a phrase that you you use all the time… “technically i’m right.” and don’t give me this hypothetical “they should have won” crap. they still lost.

by awd777 on Apr 7, 2009 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions

well

your whole argument was you cant win with plax .. obviously you can .. and i want chad .. if we got him for a third .. realistic now .. we would have a serious upgrade and desean and curtis and brown .. thats a nice receiving core

by jack is better than asante on Apr 7, 2009 11:36 PM EDT up reply actions

wanna put some money on it? Considering the charges he’s up against carry a MANDITORY MINIMUM of 3 years. you realize that means that if they find him guilty (geee that’ll be hard), they HAVE to give him at least that… I’m saying that they’ll probably plea out and get it down to 18 months… He’ll actually serve 8-10 and then be suspended from the NFL upon his release for another season.

I'm no legal expert

but you have to admit, there has obviously been some reluctance to cut the guy a plea bargain up to this point. Given his track record, he should be good for at least 2 more run in’s with the law by June. I don’t care who you are, you CANNOT keep your middle finger up at the authorities and expect them to work with you. I mean really:

“You’re going to hear about this by the end of your shift, I know the sheriff personally”

Then cursing out the cop, this guy NEEDS to go to jail and grow the fuck up, who does he think he is?

you realize that Lewis rolled over on his 2 “friends” to get a plea deal and get out of that murder case right? What is Plax going to testify against himself to get a lesser sentence. Come on dude let’s try and use some common sense PLEASE!

Ray Lewis also didn't have the Mayor campaigning against him
New York law requires a minimum of 31/2 years in prison for a conviction of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, the charge Burress faces.

“I don’t think that anybody should be exempt from that,” Bloomberg said. “It would be an outrage if we don’t prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.”

Not prosecuting celebrities would make “a sham, a mockery of the law,” the mayor asserted.

Either way

Would our team risk signing this guy before they know the outcome of his legal problems and whatever suspension will follow….I doubt it. That sounds more like something the Cowgirls would do. All talent aside, the guy has too many question marks right now. IMHO nobody but Jerry Jones is crazy enough to give the guy a deal before tying up all his loose ends.

nooo way he gets a deal till after all this settles .. he is still gonna get suspended .. 8 games sounds rite .. and 60 days jail time

by jack is better than asante on Apr 7, 2009 11:37 PM EDT up reply actions

and 60 days jail time

please look up the term manditory minimum… then look at new york’s gun laws… if he pleas down to a lesser crime, he’s still going away for longer than 60 days… the best he can hope for is 1 year minimum…

Plax is proving he's an extra-pricky prick

dude obviously thinks he’s above the law or whatever. It’s one thing to have money and realize that no matter how many tickets you get, you can afford them all.

It’s quite another to be starting trouble with cops knowing you’re getting ready to go on trial and you just got cut from a team that has nobody who’s quite as talented as you.

He’s not Leonard Little evil, but he’s definitely dumb enough to deserve what’s coming to him. Hope he wakes up at some point.

NFL-wise, good riddance. That guy used to eat us up twice annually. Won’t miss him.
