Dawkins' No. 20 likely can be viewed like Randall Cunningham's No. 12. The number is not retired, but it has not been worn since Jeffrey Lurie purchased the team.
Reggie White's No. 92 was worn for a day at the first minicamp after Lurie purchased the team, but Lurie put a stop to that and it was not worn again and then was retired after White's death.
The Daily News pointed out that no player took #20 for this weekends' upcoming minicamp.

I thought about this yesterday. If I had a blog I definitely would have written about the ramifications if/when a rookie or someone else decided to throw on #20. I guess that won’t happen.

I could see 69 being retired for sure 20
The city would go nuts if a rookie had on 20 out there

Eagles retired numbers
15 – Steve Van Buren
40 – Tom Brookshier
44 – Pete Retzlaff
60 – Chuck Bednarik
70 – Al Wistert
92 – Reggie White
99 – Jerome Brown
What other numbers would you retire? Should any of the following be retired – 7? 12? 20? 36?
by uzebra on Apr 30, 2009 5:22 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah, should've included that for discussion
I think 20 & 36 are no-brainers. The QBs are a different story, and harder to judge in my book.

As much as I love Westbrook
I think we should wait a few more years to determine whether he deserves to have his number retired or not.
Chances are he’ll earn that distinction easily. I just think its a bit premature to talk about this years before he will retire. Honestly, with the knee cleaned out, I think there’s a good shot that he has a lot of gas left in the tank.
About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

but see heres the thing
they have to be somewhat careful because after a while you’ll become like the boston celtics and half the legal numbers will be retired
Honestly.. in my book the one two that should get retired at this point are 5 & 20. Westbrook has not done enough imo to retire it. Maybe after a few more productive years

I don’t know Westbrook holds team records in receptions (90) and yards from scrimmage (2,104), he’s second among RBs in TDs for the Eagles (66), franchise leader in yds. from scrimmage (9,330), yds./carry (4.6), recepts. (401), reception yards (3,609), and rec. TDs (28),
With 20 career 100-yd. rushing games (regular and postseason), ranks t-2nd in team history behind Wilbert Montgomery (26),
In ten career playoff games, ranks 1st in team history in career rushing yards (591), t-2nd in career rushing TDs (3), t-1st in career total TDs (6), and 2nd in career rushing attempts (129)
Got these stats from PE.com check it here for all his accomplishments, but I think he has done plenty to get 36 retired.

I agree
But as much as I like 5, I don’t think he’s nearly as universally well-regarded as Dawk. I do think though that the number “5” is associated with McNabb even more than 20 is w/Dawk…if that makes sense.
I mean, we hear him referred to as “5” all the time, but almost everyone just calls Dawkins “Dawk” or even Weapon X.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

definately
will be retired.
It will be a major shock if it wasnt. The city would kill the Eagles organization.

Agreed,
As happy as I will be if we win the SB this year, I will get sick to my stomach knowing that B Dawk will be watching it from home. It actually bothers me to think about it right now.

Yeah, I want them to win it every year, and i want them to win it while I’m still young enough to celebrate like a jackass, but I really want them to win it while 5 and 36 are still on the team.
(I’m not as attached to any of the newer guys yet, although I’m breakin’ down and getting a D-Jax jersey this year.)

If When the eagles win the superbowl this season, I don’t think it’s out of the question for the franchise to have an extra ring to give to Dawkins, as the colts organization did for e.james
Just my opinion..
