Eagles made offer to Pace?
From ESPN:
Tackle Pace agrees with Bears
On the same day the Chicago Bears added a new quarterback, they got someone to protect him.
The Bears have agreed to a three-year deal, $15 million deal with free agent Orlando Pace, a source told ESPN.com's John Clayton. His first-year payout, according to the source, is $6.1 million.
ESPN's Michael Smith first reported the signing.
Moments after acquiring quarterback Jay Cutler from the Denver Broncos, the Bears reached an agreement to sign former Rams left tackle Pace.
From the bottom of the article:
Pace had an offer from the Philadelphia Eagles, but he decided to sign with the Bears on the day Cutler was acquired in a trade from the Broncos.
Complete article here.
While he has battled injuries the past few seasons, he is 33. If he can stay healthy, I imagine he would be a serviceable to good tackle. Do you think it would be worth it had the Eagles got him for the same price the Bears paid?

Wow
That’s surprising. They’d let Tra Thomas go at 34 but get Orlando Pace at 33. Hmm…

could be a signal
that the eagles might be focusing a little more on the run, since tra wasnt the best run blocker to say the least and pace is a little better at that

I think they probably offered him a 1 year deal just like they probably offered Tra but these guys are older so they wanted the 3 year deals they signed. I don’t care if the Eagles offer every FA out there a contract as long as its reasonable to what they do.

I guess they feel at this point Pace is better than Tra.

I think it matters what the offer was ...
… but also, as much as I like continuity and as much as I like Tra, Orlando Pace is in another class, is he not?

He's not what he was either
But Tra is definitely on the down side of his career.

it was probably
one of those low guaranteed money, high incentive contracts. a no-lose situation for the eagles. if they could have gotten him to play at his level for a year, they could keep todd/shawn on the inside while they try to groom another guy. i don’t think the eagles were excited to bring tra back, but they would have taken him at a low risk contract.

Also, no one seems to be acknowledging the
possibility that Stacy Andrews won’t be himself when the season begins. Might be nice to have an insurance policy.
Personally I’m optimistic, and I think Andrews & Herremans can both handle tackle if need be (also maybe Justice will come out of nowhere and be good, but now I’m reaching), but I think if nothing else this is a sign that the Birds will look to add a T if there’s one out there they like.
Pace might be the kind of talent you change plans for, even short-term
