The Greatest trade never made
Thank goodness our front office doesn’t listen us average fans. I recall last year we were all banging down the door for a trade with Detroit for WR Roy Williams. Yes, I will admit, I thought that would be a good idea at the time. But the Eagles kept their ground, and went into the season with Jackson as a starter.
Let’s examine what the Dallas Cowboys gave up for Roy Williams:
1st round #20, 20th overall: Detroit selected TE Brandon Pettigrew.
ESPN grade 93, ranked 16th best player in the draft.
3rd round #18, 82nd overall: Detroit selected WR Derrick Williams.
ESPN grade 82, ranked 56th best player in the draft.
If you disagree with pick, you had other players available that could have been selected:
(WR Ramses Bardem, TE Jared Cook, TE Chase Coffman, LB Kaluka Maiava, S Rashad Johnson, etc)
6th round #19, 192nd overall: Detroit selected RB Aaron Brown
ESPN grade 44, ranked 184th best player in the draft.
Dallas also included a 7th round pick for the 2010 draft, just to top things off.
That is a lot to give up for a marginally decent WR don’t you think.
If we had made that trade, It would have cost us:
1st round pick (WR Jeremy Maclin or LT Jason Peters)
3rd round pick (traded for next year 3rd rounder, we’ll wait and see who they select then)
We could have selected,
(WR Ramses Bardem, TE Jared Cook, TE Chase Coffman, LB Kaluka Maiava, S Rashad Johnson, etc)
6th round pick (WR Brandon Gibson)
For the sake of argument, could you imagine us trading away Jeremy Maclin or Jason Peters, Chase Coffman, and Brand Gibson for Roy Williams. We would have been asking for Andy’s head right now.
Again I repeat this, Thank goodness he doesn’t listen to us. We as fans are often wrong.

Wow, either Pettigrew or Maclin straight up for Williams would have been too much.

agreed
im all for supporting our FO but comparing them to Jerry Jones is complete lunacy, much like Jerry Jones

No comparison to that circus in Dallas.
Just the fact that we didn’t make that huge mistake of trading soo much for Roy Williams. We got Maclin instead, who may be better some day.

Agree
The Cowgirls gave way tooooo much 4 R.Williams although I believe he hasn’t played the way he’s capable of playing. Yophillybro you know i use to love R.Williams……. and there’s something in me that says he will have a great year although I hope he doesn’t since he’s a cowboy. But it’s not fair to him that he was traded during the season and not b4 training camp. i think it would have been a different ball game if he had time to learn the offense. the part that sucks about this deal also is that……. that deal will be expected from everyone now that wants to trade for a big time receiver.

He screwed it up for all other WR trades.
If Dallas didn’t give up soo much, Anquan would have been trade this offseason.

no one even offered a 1st
so i dont know either way if he would have been traded
but its good to see that neither BE or Q got traded for that price, which tells all the teams that they wont be held to the Roy Williams Trade standard

but
we restored the balance …. we refused to buy what the market value was asking … and unless another douche like jerry comes along and doesn’t screw it up with another roy williams proposal well see possibility in the future … but who needs a wr now … were good … :( no crabs for NPK

bs
roy williams is a stud wr .. maclin can be .. but hes gonna have to develop and wont play right away .. they didnt over pay .. they gave fair value .. roys a good player .. he played 3 games with brad johnson and had no time to learn the system .. see what he does this year .. because he was a good wr in detroit .. i still say romo is not an all pro qb like dallas fans think .. so thats gonna hurt him

Roy williams was the only bright spot on the Lions for the past few years. He isn’t as terrible as people make him out to be. Bottom line is he is a big strong reciever that can kill us if we take him lightly.

hey soman
im with u bro .. i dont think hes as good as TO but hes still a good wr .. he didnt know the system and looked lost .. plus romo wasnt playing well and brad johnson is done .. so i think people are ragging on him too much .. hes still a weapon .. and as much as i like desean .. williams is a big fast number one material wr .. and hes better than any of our wrs right now .. but mcnabb is clearly better than romo

No one is arguing if he is a decent receiver. Only the value that Dallas gave up for him is crazy.
If you that the trade was worth it, then you are taking it to another level of crazyness.

I would have beat the rush an asked for Andy’s head when the trade was made, not now. There are few, if any, players worth that much, and Williams certainly isn’t one of them. I hope Jerry Jones never quits calling the shots in Dallas.

didn't Baltimore get the pick and SF get Whiting or something like that.

nah Baltimore just got it’s second rounder back from San Fran.
Balt traded a 2nd rounder for TO, TO said no and was going to be declared a free agent due to the wording of his contract and UPenn … so San Fran wanted to get something for him sent the 2nd rounder back to Baltimore and took Whiting and our 5th.
I remembered only because I’m weird.

Once again the cowboys are owned. I cant wait to watch them not make the playoffs, or be eliminated in the first round this year.

COWBOYS OWNED
I LIKE THE SOUND OF THAT. IT SO RINGS TRUE IN THIS YEARS DRAFT AND I LOOK FORWARD TO A SERIES SWEEP. THE ONLY THING I DONT UNDERSTAND IS WHY DIDNT WE DRAFT CHASE COFFMAN? WHAT DID WE GET BESIDES A THIRD ROUND NEXT YEAR FOR THAT TRADE?
MACLIN WILL BE THE LEADING RECEIVER ON THIS TEAM BY YEAR THREE AND WILL GET A HUGE CONTRACT EXTENSION THEN. BET.
