Eagles: Rookie Free Agent Signings
The Eagles added to their roster Monday, signing nine rookie free agents.
The players include defensive end Josh Gaines (Penn State); safety Reshard Langford (Vanderbilt); fullback Marcus Mailei (Weber State); running back Walter Mendenhall (Illinois State); guard Dallas Reynolds (Brigham Young); receiver Brandon Robinson (Boston College); cornerback Courtney Robinson (UMass); kicker Sam Swank (Wake Forest); and running back Marcus Thigpen (Indiana).
Hopefully this signing will give Akers some needed competition:

Swank
I’m excited to see him during preseason, but I can’t help but think that he’s going to be like Richmond McGee was last year – just another training camp body to rest the starters.

I would like to see another TE for blocking. We didn't sign any, or draft any.
Maybe June cuts?

Much was expected of Swank in 2008. He entered the year as arguably the nation’s top long-distance kicking prospect, fresh off a junior campaign in which he was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award. A groin injury midway through the season robbed Swank of his power, limiting his effectiveness as a field goal kicker, kickoff specialist and punter. If he can prove he’s over the groin injury, Swank’s high trajectory and leg drive should make him one of the more highly regarded placekickers of the 2009 draft. Had an arm span of 31 1/4 inches and a hand span of 9 inches at the combine.

What do Sam Swank and Peewee Herman have in common?
Their careers were adversely affected by groin pulls. Sorry, I feel the need to break out that joke every chance I get.

Glad to see that Andy picked up his token BYU player, am I the only one or does it seem no matter what we come out of the off season with a BYU guy?

You stole my thunder
It is a requirement that Reid brings in a former BYU’er for every training camp.
