Eagles sign undrafted free agents

When the draft ends, all eligible players who weren't picked in the draft become fair game and teams scramble to snap up guys they may have interest in. The Eagles especially have done a great job with their undrafted free agent signings in the past with guys like Quintin Mikell, Joselio Hanson, & Jamal Jackson.

So far, these are the guys that have agreed to terms with the Eagles.

RB Marcus Thigpen, Indiana - Scouting report - Small, very fast running back. Good return man.

DE Josh Gaines, Penn State - Bio - Big run stopping defensive end.

WR Brandon Robinson, Boston College - Bio - Went from the Eagles to the Eagles!

S Reshard Langford, Vanderbilt - Langford is a strong safety. His coach had this to say Reshard will make a huge impression on the Philadelphia coaches with his talent, effort and desire to help anyway he can,” VU coach Bobby Johnson said. “He was tremendous here, both on and off the field. Reshard Langford is one of those guys you build winning teams around."

OL Dallas Reynolds, Brigham Young - Profile

RB Walter Mendenhall, Illinois State - A "big" back. 6'0 225. Brother of Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall, who was a 1st round pick last year.

FB Marcus Mailei, Weber State - 248 pound fullback that can catch.

K/P Sam Swank, Wake Forest - Scouting report - Primarily a kicker that has punted... Has 50+ range.

I'll update this when/if any more news comes in.

I want Larry Beavers from Wesley

not to get all D3 on that azz, but dude is a hell of a kick returner with 4.3-something speed. Not many low divison guys will catch on in the league, but I want to at least see him at camp.

You big into the D3 ball? I’m guessing you played?

Seeing "Beavers" on the back on a jersey will be worth a laugh as well

"In a couple of weeks or a month, I'll be excited about this team," Dawkins said. "I've got to get used to saying that -- I'm a Bronco." Then he paused. "I'll tell you one thing -- I'll always be an Eagle."

we’re gonna have quite a full squad for training camp including all the no-names we signed in the offseason…

More guys...

These are just more guys that won’t make the team, pending injuries…we’re already having to drop some serious players just to get to 53…

Was Scirrotto drafted or signed by anyone?

Gerald Cadogan OT from PSU and Ian Johnson RB from Boise St intrigue me most out of the undrafted pool of guys

TE Joe Stewart

Another University of Richmond product. This guy is 6’4" 238 lbs. and basically vaulted us to the championship game with a TD in each of our playoff games. He should give us more needed depth at the TE position. I’d love to see him in an Eagles uniform.

Thigpen went to Indiana, not Alabama.

Just sayin…

Sam Swank

As a Wake Forest grad, I am very pleased to see the Eagles sign UFA Kicker Sam Swank. At the very least he should give Akers a much needed push in training camp.

Just some background on him: He was the 2006 Wake Forest MVP and also MVP of the ACC Championship Game after making all three of his FG attempts. He was on pace to break the All-time ACC scoring record until a quad tear sidelined him for much of his senior season (dont let his 11-17 senior season fool you, he’s pretty darn good). After current Bengals punter Ryan Plackemeier graduated after Swank’s frosh season—he was also handed the punting duties—focusing on placekicking will help him out.

Swank has a monster leg—I saw him nail 3- 50+ yarders in a single game, including a 55yd bomb as the clock wound down, to win at NC State. The guy has ice in his veins, nailing 7 game winners (albeit he did miss a 40 yarder as time expired vs UVA in 2007) including two last season as the clock expired. For his career, he averaged a touch back one of every four kickoffs. He truly was a weapon for the Deacs, when he was out last season, it totally changed the Deacons’ game plan.

I’ve heard he has a great leg, the drawback on him seems to be his durability. Did you think that was an issue?

by JasonB on Apr 27, 2009 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions

can’t be sure—-the quad injury kept him out for at least 3-4 games…even when he came back it was clear that he was not healthy. He never had any other injury issues, but it has to be a bit of a concern.

Conredge Collins

I think the Eagles should add Conredge Collins, fullback from Pitt. He’s a good athlete for the position, he can run the ball, and he’s a pretty good receiver. I think he’d be a great fit at a need position.

anquan boldin's brother?

Any word on where he got drafted or signed by? Was surprised if the eagles were going to sign and or draft a WR that late they didn’t at least give him a look.

boldin's brother

DJ went undrafted and has yet to find a team.

great kid, solid work ethic, good hands but he doesnt have anquan’s speed. he caught 81 balls his senior year—but out of the slot, a position that the deacs utilize to the fullest—kenny moore caught 98 passes from there the year before. and dj was no kenny moore. he caught only 11 the previous year and was academically ineligible the year before.

anquan and rosenhaus were at WF pro day in support. hope he finds a team, if given a shot—he certainly works hard enough to find a role on special teams

he has my condolences
