Around SBN: Newcastle Battle Injury Woes Ahead of Tottenham

With the 153rd overall pick the Eagles select TE Cornelius Ingram

21kentuckcy

With the 17th pick in the fifth round Eagles select TE Cornelius Ingram from Florida.

The 6'4, 245lb TE missed the entire 2008 season after tearing his ACL last August. He was seen as a major prospect before his injury last year. Ingram has great size, runs a 4.6 40, can leap. and can play a physical game. He was pretty much never asked to block. One of my draft guides here had him ranked as the 59th best player in the draft.

This pick reminds me a lot of the Jack Ikegwonou selection from last year. A highly touted player who suffered a pretty bad injury that dropped his stock. Even with his injury, some draftniks had Ingram projected as a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Scouting report

Strengths:
Outstanding athleticism...Very good speed and quickness...Excellent ball skills and body control...Soft hands...Terrific leaper...Good focus and is able to make the difficult catch...Adequate height with the frame to add more weight...Runs well after the catch...Can get up the seam and stretch the field vertically...Competitive...Still has a  ton of upside.

Weaknesses:
Doesn't have the ideal bulk that you look for...Not a polished route runner...Isn't very tough or physical...Needs to get stronger...Has a long (long) way to go as a blocker, especially in-line...Doesn't like contact...Durability is a concern...Awfully inexperienced...A 'tweener?

Great scouting report on Ingram from Mile High Report.

Not necessarily

Schobel’s not a definite to make the team.

But..

We’d have 3 pass-catching TEs, without a decent blocker.

by AshburnAlley on Apr 26, 2009 3:00 PM EDT up reply actions

We could still grab McKenna Roscoe or John Phillips with a 5th or 6th and there’s your blocking TE.

he was kiper’s #2 te overall

I love it, great value for the pick.

Until last year he had never suffered a serious injury or missed any significant playing time in his career. ACL is no joke but the guy obviously isnt soft.

I dont know.... Casey seemed much better

Ingram- 2007(didnt play in 2008 ACL)- 34 catches 508yds 14.9avg 7 tds

Casey- 2008 111 catches 1329 yds 12.0 avg 13 tds

Maybe the FO knows something we don’t.

Casey was gone already.

For all we know

they were all set to pick Casey and had him snatched out from under them.

But we’ll never know, they’ll say oh what a talent, what a value pick is Ingram.

Which it is. If he pans out he really could be quite a player.

Another value pick

I love the value picks in maclin and ingram. The FO has done a great job knowing who would be on the boards. Anyone know the extent of ingram knee injury?

From that Orlando Sentinel

article:

The Sentinel evaluated Ingram’s place in the draft, and his stock is looking good. Worst-case scenario, he’s the fifth-taken tight end and goes late in the third round. Best-case, he’s the second-taken TE and goes early to the middle in the second round.

Guess they were pretty durn wrong, but, yeah, looks like quite a “value pick” from here …

Not a bad pick

But here’s a dumb question. In JasonB’s review on the front page it says he can play a physical game. But then in the weaknesses, it says he isn’t very tough or physical. So, what can we really expect from him?

by Baron Dainer Von Tresvant on Apr 26, 2009 3:13 PM EDT reply actions

i think he meant thats he’s physical with the ball as a pass catching TE, but he’s not that great of a blocker.

by JpH89 on Apr 26, 2009 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Well so many reports conflict one another. I read in the NFL draft guide that “he would prefer to run through a safety than run by them.”

But the MTD scouting report says he’s not very physical. That might just refer to his lack of blocking experience.

Happy to get him

After the Titans moved above us in the 3rd and grabbed Jared Cook I had been a little disappointed and was hoping just to get someone. I didn’t think for a second that Ingram would last until the 5th.
