Eagles make the fifth round their own

Thanks to various deals for players and picks this year and last year, the Eagles have complied a hard to believe six picks in the fifth round.

As it stands now the Eagles hold the 1st, 5th, 17th, 21st, 23rd, & 28th picks in the fifth round.

Could they actually make all those picks? I have a feeling we'll see them package a few to trade up into the 4th round or flip them for 2010 picks.

"The brownies,'' Fernandez said after the game. "The brownies are good for me to make three-points.''

Here is the logic of why they won't go into the fourth.

They traded down to gain the picks. If they really wanted or needed someone, why would they not just have taken them with the third pick? They passed on almost all the TE by trading so far down. The 2nd day has been very disappointing. By no means will we sign all our fifth rounders. So what is the point of having quantity if they are not the same quality?

Agree 100%

We have the chance to grab the second best TE available and we pass up?? WHY?? lets see who we value more then getting a Cook/Ingram/Nelson/Coffman

DeSEAN JACKSON THE 10NE

ingram is the last guy left. His stock dropped because of an injury, much like Jack. Someone who has a lot of talent, potentially 1st-2nd round talent.

Ingram...

Don’t want him anywhere near our team. Apparently, he strongly considered quitting prior to the 2006 season. That’s why he’s dropping. He might not be drafted at all.

Flip them for

Next year picks. That’d be better if we have no targets.

Ellis Hobbs

137 & 141 to the Pats for Ellis Hobbs, per PFT via the Patriots Twitter

really?

wow. I don’t know what we are thinking.

Looks like we traded our first 2 picks in the 5th to Baltimore. JasonB, do you know what we got in return?

I think it is pretty solid. 16-game starter. I think it solidfies the CB core more. i think it is a good. great? don’t know. but good.

Okay, I'm probably going to draw fire for this but

Anyone else think they’re being smug, cheap, and optimistic?

by HoosierPop on Apr 26, 2009 1:44 PM EDT reply actions

No

I think they’re doing what they did all off season- getting younger, stronger, and faster.

Yes, we lost Dawk, but cmon people. We upgraded EVERYWHERE!

by AshburnAlley on Apr 26, 2009 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions

No, prudent, sensible and willing to spend

It would not have been a huge surprise if they’d picked a corner up top, especially after Sheldon started naming guys he said should be upset about their contracts. And they’re paying Hobbs $2.5 million, a bunch more than two 5’s would have made. If Jack I doesn’t work out, they had known quantities backing up the starters. Good move.

With less leverage

than he had…which was close to 0.

by AshburnAlley on Apr 26, 2009 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Without very much leverage

We’ve got 2 starting caliber CBs behind him, so we don’t “need” him in the same way we did before.

He could play S in some packages, but that seems like a waste of his man to man coverage abilities to some degree.

Hobbs’ll be in there to create a CB rotation, play nickel and dime a lot (and allow Sheldon to move to S maybe in Nickel packages??).

Also leaves us less reliant on the question mark of Jack as an important position guy (dime CB)

Exactly

Well spoken Alon. Completely forgot about Jack…

by AshburnAlley on Apr 26, 2009 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually...

Samuel, Brown, Hobbs, Hanson and Jack. That’s a fine group of corners…

by Bob_StudioZ on Apr 26, 2009 1:53 PM EDT up reply actions

This trade has nothing to do with Brown. We simply have an awesome dime back now.

by JimmyK on Apr 26, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Draft so far...

Maclin
Peters
McCoy
Hobbs

So far, so good. We’ll see how they wrap it up…
