Eagles trade down again
After trading down in the 3rd with the Giants, the Eagles have again traded down this time with Seattle. No word on what they got in return yet.
[Note by JasonB, 04/26/09 11:45 AM EDT ] Details are in
Eagles sens #91 overall pick to Seattle for the 137th pick 5th round 213th pick in the 7th round plus a 3rd rounder next year. Great value, but didn't we want a player?
The Eagles now hold 6 picks in the 5th round. Surely they have to be working on moving back up eventually?

Are we drafting anyone on day 2?
Seriously, the Hawks next pick is Rd 5, as best I can tell.
not yet….whoever we’ve got targeted must not be on a whole lot of other teams boards
Loooooook here brotha'.....who you jivein' with that Cosmic Debris!!!???
and..
There might be some of those 5’s packaged for a 4 and a better round pick next year…when you don’t have needs, trade for next year picks…

So far...
I’ve been pretty happy with who’ve we’ve picked up……Stock piling picks for Scheffler maybe….

Sheffler is no better than Celek. Average TE
Cook, Coffman, or Nelson have the potential to be very good if not great.
Taking Route 36 will bring you to Touchdown,PHI

I’d rather have Coffman for sure…..be odd to get two guys from Mizzou
Loooooook here brotha'.....who you jivein' with that Cosmic Debris!!!???
What about 2 brothers and a former team mate in the same O-line?
Taking Route 36 will bring you to Touchdown,PHI
relax....
the eagles have drafted great on day 2 in the past….just sit back and relax….you cant judge anything yet….
Some of you guys need to fucking RELAX!!!
Jeeze, they have a plan. Probably better than yours too. We WILL do something, as usual.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
I don't get it...
Why trade back from the third to the fifth, then package fifths to get back into the fourth to pick a player that may not be as good as who you could have taken in the 3rd to begin with?
they can get better value...probably didn't love who they were going to take, and thought the trade was worth it
and now they have 2 thirds next year
a third rounder could always drop to the 4th
Then signed for less money and they picked up more picks.
Taking Route 36 will bring you to Touchdown,PHI
Because
we get a 3rd next year out of the deal.
and then with that 3rd we will trade down to the 8th round. After being told by Commissioner Goodell that there is no 8th round, Jeffrie Lurie and Joe Banner will proceed to have a hissy fit, crying that they never wanted to draft anybody to begin with because our team is already a roster full of Super Bowl winners even though they’ve never won it before.
About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.
All too
true I think. Maybe they will trade for a 1984 8th round pick, since there used to be 12 rounds, and since that draft happened 25 years ago they don’t have to draft and pay for anybody there.
Seriously, I appreciate their trying to angle for better deals all of the time on draft day, but trading up down and around really is a mania with this crew.
Yes...
A mania is a good way to put it. My guess is it has more to do with money than players.
Or, they can’t come to a consensus on who to pick, so they try to buy more time.
Either way, more picks next year don’t excite me anymore because they’ll just keep trading them anyway…

Okay so basically we have drafted two players this year, and now we are done. Great. Way to got letting some talented TE’s slip right past us. These idiots will never change.
I'm not ready to move on from #20.
Easy there, brother...
There are only 3 TE’s off the board in a really deep TE draft, and they just picked up (2) 5’s, a 7, and a likely an early 3 next year for our 3 this year. This FO gets it.
Need I remind you what we got (Jason Peters) for trading out of the first last year?
Im happy with the 3rd next year but… we really need to get back in the 4th and get Ingram or Nelson …i dont even know anyother TE out there

The rest of the TEs are mainly blockers
Ingram and Nelson are the last 2 reliable receiving TEs.
Great draft so far
We just got one of the top 3 wideouts in the draft and one of the top five running backs. It’s not easy to draft so well when you’re always picking 20+ based on the perennial quality of your football team and the F.O. has done a great job through the years.
We have half of a hole at TE right now (Celek isn’t some slouch), we could use some depth at CB, maybe a DE – but we now have a young, talented receiving corps; a young, ridiculous offensive line; a young, potential replacement but definitely solid backup for BWest….
And trading back leaves you spots next year which is why, hopefully, our window won’t close. Really phenomenal that at the end of our McNabb Westbrook “window” we have talent and youth all over the field.

Great point Rock!

Westbrook might be out before McNabb is. I mean, he’s 32 and a perennial injury risk, but I wouldn’t rule out another 6 years or so of production. Everybody else seems to think that BW is gonna go down sooner rather than later. Personally, I can see the McNabb – McCoy era lasting for 3-4 years which isn’t a small amount of time.

until we trade out to the 6th

Man, it’s incredible. All these folks who would draft so much better than the Eagles. NFL teams should be looking you guys up.
"Someone created the box score," Morey says, "and he should be shot."
Blocked shots — they look great, but unless you secure the ball afterward, you haven’t helped your team all that much.

Things we may be looking at
CBs we scheduled workouts with: Mike Mickens, DeAngelo Willingham
TE’s: Ingram, Nalbone
DE: Lawrence Sidbury

Sorry, but this just seems like yet another draft
where the Eagles said “We did well last year. We have almost no holes.” Meanwhile, teams that did better are still drafting more talent, in an effort to improve even at positions where they are “set”.
This is a joke. As I warned earlier, it’s a “we’re the smartest guys in the room” day.
Yawn

On a side note while it's slow
How about Charlie Manuel last night. Lidge loads the bases in the tenth, threatening to give up the game, and Manuel comes out spitting fire at the ump. Gets himself ejected but shows his confidence in Lidge, gives Lidge a break and stops the Marlins’ momentum…Lidge closes it out and that’s a W for the manager.

Yeah, that helps with the safety depth. And the TE needs. And d-line competition.
Oh, wait. No it does not.
I'll spend the next year
trying to find some excitement about this.
Well, unless they swing a trade for the TE from Denver or Scaife from Tenn
the concept of picking up an impact TE this year is dead. Those two picks yesterday will be cold comfort if the rest of the day is spent adding practice squad bodies and “liabilities in coverage” like that cb NE just fleeced them on. (With the top TWO picks for the 5th from the Eagles, if I read it right.)
