Why are you surprised we didn't get Gonzo?
He can still play. I know that. And he's a very good leader. I know that too.
But has this offseason taught you nothing? He's 33. Once you hit 30, the Philadelphia Eagles start worrying about nursing home bills. We spent an entire offseason getting younger... almost every substraction was above 30 and every addition was young. We had a plan this off-season and Gonzalez didn't fit it.
We need a TE. i get it. But its a deep TE class... I don't see us taking Pettigrew at 21 but we've got enough picks lower down to get a quality one. And as that TE matures, Celek can hold down the position just fine...
Relax, the Front Office didn't completely drop the ball. A 2nd rounder was excessive for Tony at his age.

Someone made an excellent point in the other thread, and the point was that the Eagles already got Leonard Weaver, who pretty much fits the bill of what a TE does anyway. So do we need a TE? No, not in the way I once thought anyway. I mean the Dream-Weaver can catch the ball, he can block, he can even run the ball. That puts us in a way better position than last season, since LJ couldn’t accomplish any of these 3. Celek is a solid TE on top of it, so I think we are way better off than people think. We are in a position to sit back on draft day and see what kind of TE prospect comes to us, there is no need to actively pursue one on Saturday in my opinion.

not convinced
neither weaver nor celek will (tentatively) make the opposing defense make calls around them. T. Gonzy changes defensive schemes and thins out the secondary. He is a man who is always watched and worried about, we need a tight end like that to split the defense. Hopefully celek can step up.
"I think if you go low on Runyan, he may drop the knee somewhere. So I think you have to stay high and just let him baptize you. That's probably what I would do. You know when you go backwards and your head hits first and you wake up as if somebody baptized you or blessed you? I think that would be Runyan right there, all day, every day."

well…..
I’ll say this. Everyone starts somewhere, and most people have to start on the bottom. I wouldnt say Celek nor Weaver put us at the bottom.
No doubt, Gonzo is good…..but our main attack is short slants and roll outs. We need the estra man blocking and i dont know how happy Tony would be here if all he did on 90% of the plays was to stay on the line and block.

If this off season taught us anything...
It taught us that the Eagles WILL do something they just wait for the right time and the right deal…
How many people cried 10 days into FA that we didn’t do enough and we were too cheap only to have us land a top 5 LT via trade.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
…and on top of that we made him the highest paid LT in the league lol. Eagles are anything but cheap, they just make sure to pull the trigger when it counts.

1st off……
The Eagles are going to be extending DNabb before the season starts…so the whole over 30 thing isnt the only driving factor with releasing guys that are over 30.
2nd.
We OFFERED for Gonzo. So that doesnt excactly prove lack of interest in a 30+. It just proves that we set our price…and were outbid.
3rd.
When will people learn to trust the FO? We make moves that make waves almost every year……sit back, relax and watch how the pieces come together. It wonderful when you’re looking at things at a wider angle. It all just seems to work!

I have said it before but its not the fact that we didn’t get him it’s that the price of a 2nd rounder NEXT year was legitimate. The reason why this year was too high was because there are more needs and a 2nd round pick is necessary if a need isn’t filled in the first round. Next year…is next year lol. But whatever, it’s over now so let’s move on. 2 Days guys!
Would you guys be mad IF…. 21 rolls around and Moreno is gone.. I KNOW OMGGG RIGHT ANUJ!!! then we call up the Cards.. offer a 1st and 3rd.. they accept… McCoy or Jennings fall to us at 53 we take on of them… jerk off in the 3rd… then trade up in the 4th to take the best available TE. I know it’s unlikely but it would mean are draft class would be something like …Peters, Boldin, McCoy, Cook/Ingram/Nelson, and who ever else…
