Sheldon's Impact on Leadership Question
The recent debacle ragarding Sheldon Brown and his contract may not lead to any real impact on the play of our defense per se, but it might have another effect.
I know that a lot of us were rooting for Sheldon to become the leader of this defense and perhaps the team, a Dawk v2.0. Eventhough that might be taking it a bit too far, it was realistic to suggest that Sheldon has the experience, steady track-record and character to lead this team. Well I believe his character has been tarnished by his behaviour.
Even though poor character doesn't automatically rule a player out of becoming a "leader" on a team (like the criminal Ray Lewis, someone that I hate with a passion), I have to believe that it has an impact on the perception that your teammates have of you.
Other names that were mentioned include Stewart Bradley (my personal favourite candidate), Trent Cole and Asante Samuel. What do you guys think? Is Sheldon eliminated from the competition? And who do you see as the leader-in-waiting, about a month after our initial debate on the subject?

Players will usually side with other players when it comes to getting paid what they feel they deserve, justified or not. So while his most recent comments will have a definite negative affect on his image from the fan’s point of view, I don’t think it will have any real carryover to the locker room.

Sheldon would have become the “leader” of this defense by attrition…Dawk was the clear leader, now he’s gone. Sheldon would only have gained the role through seniority. Other guys like Trent Cole, Juqua Parker, and Asante Samuel are more deserving of the title at this point. Bradley’s up there too, but right now I’d like to have Trent Cole firing people up…no one gives as much effort on every down as him.
Tony Romo..why so serious?
i think he loses some respect from his teammates for going public about his gripes. it’s one thing to want more money (what employee doesn’t?) but it’s all about how you go about it.
as a leader, i’d have liked to see him work at it privately. then again, who knows how long he was working on that before he went public…

I think that either bradley or mikell will step up, however just because sheldon is unhappy in april doesn’t mean he can’t patch things up and be a leader in september

I agree ...
… there’s a long time before the season starts. And Nodar makes a great point too, players don’t really view this like we do, they mostly separate on-field stuff from “business” stuff.
But me personally, I thought he was going to be the leader, the Dawk v2.0 if you will, and yeah I think this tarnishes that. But maybe the Eagles (i.e. people who matter in this) don’t.
