Is ESPN useful at all anymore?
I'm sitting here with it on in the background as I help my son with homework and they are pimping a Yankees/Red Sox match up as if it is the World Series. The pimp the Cowboys as if they are God's gift to the sport. I hate golf and all I hear Tiger, Tiger, Tiger when there is a tournament on. If TO so much as bleches they cover it is if it is news. When Tom Brady returns next year they are going to pleasure themselves to no end over it. Yeah, it shoudln't even be on for background noise so I am part of the problem but am I missing something it is good for?
Don't even get me started on their "analysts" or "announcers". Easily the worst and full of their own bias.

Are they useful?
Only because they have a piece of every major sport’s TV contract, so if you’re into actual games, then yeah.
But otherwise, their 24-hour news presence is about as useful as a 24-hour cable news network’s talking heads are to real news. There’s just not that much happening on most days to keep it relevant 24-7.
ESPNNews, I will say, is surprisingly devoid of all the shucking and jiving … just the games and scores.
Obviously, the ESPN business model is working for them, but most people I know seem to hate it as compared to say, the glory years of the mid-90s.

I can agree there, I usually will watch ESPNEWS to at least find a score across the bottom. However, on the day of the Masters I was trying to catch the Angels score and they had AL/Golf/NL/Golf/Tennis/Golf…etc So, even their “news” network gets invovled as well.
As long as there is evil in the world, the cowboys will have their fans.
No, they are not useful any longer
I have been feeling this way about ESPN for a while now, I haven’t watched the channel in a while and I feel really happy about it.
It seems like they are only intrested in furthering ‘brands’, which are top name players that have many many different endorsment deals. I cannot bear to hear about Tony Romo and the Red Sox anymore…
RIP Sportcenter from back when I was 12.

Money has taken over ESPN.
It drives me crazy how much they promote their own stuff. On Sunday night and Monday morning, instead of analyzing the games from the day before, they are analyzing the Oakland St. Louis game on Monday night. (oh yeah, its also on their partner’s station, ABC). It’s a very sad reality that I am slowly learning now adays: Money runs EVERYTHING.
Nope
Things have changed now. ESPN was great before the internet. Now that we can sit and check on things online all day there is not really a need to watch just the scores and the horrible people they put on.

It’s only fitting they moved to LA because they have gone Hollywood, it’s a shame but I still watch sportscenter every morning out of habit.

Well at least
NFL films is still based in Mt. Laurel, NJ.
About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.
S.J. Represent!
I didn’t even know ESPN had moved to L.A.
My consumption of what they put out has declined to almost zero. Me personally, I almost never watch SC anymore, but then again, my days as “target audience” 18-34 are numbered.
This reminds me of the same thing I’ve gone through with the radio. Now that I have an iPod, the only time I hear any local station is when my wife has it on in the car or I want to hear a game. Otherwise, why listen to a bunch of songs they want me to like, plus commercials, when I can listen to all the songs I know I like, commercial-free?

the channel i fall asleep to most often: espn
the channel i watch most often in the morning: espn
love that they cover sports. hate the actual coverage 90% of the time. but they were the original and still no one comes close. CSN is coming on strong, but for a lover of all sports, espn is still a necessary part of my life.
