Should the Eagles trade Sheldon for Boldin?

I was reading some rumors and updates on espn, when I saw an ariticle saying Sheldon Brown requested a trade. Apparently its because he is unahppy with his contract even though he received a pretty fair extension form his rookie contract. I guess I could side with Brown, who has never missed a game, and just witnessed backup joselio Hanson signing a five year deal and Eagles sign a tackle who was unhappy with his contract situation. It should n't be a problem because as I we saw with Lito, Sheldon will not have the same attiutde. He knows if he does wnat to get traded he would play better to raise his value.

Actually, people have been saying he has been unahppy for a while now. So this brings to my point... What if the eagles traded sheldon Brown to the Cards for Boldin? It is so weird because I saw one of those really far-fetched Sports rumor articles on yahoo about a trade scenario involving Sheldon for Boldin. At first, I thought it was crazy. But after seeing what a mess Cutler created with his problems, maybe it better to get rid of a potential headache. Sheldon is at his prime i think but he is also thirty. (We all know not many are left in Andy Reid's thirty and older club). This year's draft is rich in conerbacks and we also have Jack who is considered a forst round talent. Wouldn't it be wiser trading sheldon now when he is more valuable than hang on to him till he's 34?

I think the Cards need someone opposite Cromartie (because Roderick Hood is only decent at best) and Brown is a beast. We could pacakage a 3rd round pick and maybe a 5th round pick along with brown for Boldin. Are there other arrangements for trades for Boldin, involving Brown? Don't get me wrong I LOVE SHELDON BROWN. He is one of our last veterans and I always liked his character and his play. It would be sad to see him go and would leave a hole. But I also really want a WR and it may be possible we could still draft Knowshon with pick 21 Im pondering whether Brown will be the next in line to fall victim in andy reid and Banner's rebuilding approach.

 Please feedback and comments:)

If we can still get knowshon and a decent tight end, I think we could make it.
Jack Ikegwuonu could turn out to be a good player as well as Joselio Hanson. They could also draft a cb later to compete.

I knew this post was coming..

The Cards have to be thinking about their secondary if they could get a Sheldon Brown … (Rodgers-Cromartie and Sheldon Brown.. Hood in the nickle and Rolle and Wilson).. on paper that has to be tops in the league.. I just dont see this Trade happening why.. We dont want to trade Sheldon.. he is a solid playmaking CB who never misses games due to injury…and ..oh yea.. he is under contract.. We dont want to trade Sheldon just like the Cards do not want to trade Boldin.. but you never know I guess it’s not out of the question .. Our D would be taking a pretty big step back if we lost Brown though.

depends

i know people say he could be a bust, but i love the CB from Illinois. i would like them to get Knowshon, but is brown does go, i say they go in another direction. but who knows, the front 7 is amazing and we still got assante. and just like every year with the eagles, we go as far as Mcnabb takes us.

last year it was Lito for Fitz … this year it is Brown for Boldin … ugh

its never going to happen

the cards are going to want more than just brown and i dont see philly giving up there first rounder …need to focus on a RB and TE

by fly eagles fly on Apr 20, 2009 8:29 PM EDT reply actions

the answer is NO

We do not have a replacement for Sheldon on the roster, and we cannot draft one this year with any certainty of success. Our WRs are good enough without Boldin, but our secondary is NOT good enough without Brown. Don’t be stupid guys, this is a big deal and the Eagles need to keep Sheldon on the roster and happy.

About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

by fly eagles fly on Apr 20, 2009 8:30 PM EDT reply actions

i dont think that they need to use a first rounder on TE, i like Celik. He has a TD per game average and McCnabb has a good connection with him. i would like to get a good backup in a later round or a post draft sign later. i would rather them take knowshun in the first also

GreenInBaltimore thinks Sheldon should shutup and play. GreenInBaltimore also thinks that if Sheldon were to be a Leader of a team that wins the next Superbowl, then Sheldon will more than make up “lost” monies in corporate endorsements. (Which are guaranteed.)
GreenInBaltimore hopes this situation goes away quickly.

Brown at SS

the only way that the cards would take him is if he wants to play SS full time. he played it last season sometimes and looks good, but i dont know what his feelings about the position are. plus, with a need for a RB, i dont see us trading a 1st and brown for a WR, but it does mean that the birds are gonna be looking at CB in the draft, maybe early 2nd round

by JpH89 on Apr 20, 2009 8:48 PM EDT reply actions

what???

First off …Wilson plays SS for the Cards and he is prob top 3 SS in the league… so ?? That makes zero sense… second we would not trade our first AND brown.. it would be more like Brown a 3rd and 5th for Boldin.

he must of meant free safety.

sheldon brown is an upgrade over antrel rolle. i don’t like talking about it though. i wouldn’t be down with this trade even if it was possible.

Why do some people have to mess up a good thing

This defense is on the verge of something special… I feel very strongly about this.(haven’t felt that way since early in this decade) Sheldon, you signed a fair contract PLAY IT OUT!! Bemoaning your salary is divisive and is totally out of character. If his antics destroy the badly needed chemistry(post Dawk) on the D then the Eagles should not trade him for the length of his current contract. If he holds out fine him and sit him on the bench. Jesus! The league should mandate signing bonus pay backs if players try this shit, but the league should also make a rule on limiting the length of rookie contract extensions.

Just a scenario

I was just wondering what would happen. In reality, it all depends on Sheldon and the office’s relationship. Are WR are pretty deep group. With Peters, all we need is knowshon or some runnningback behind westy and depth in other places
So pshyed for the draft this weekend!

by eaglesfreak on Apr 20, 2009 8:52 PM EDT reply actions

Damn you sheldon

I understand where he is coming from……… Think about the fact that he is getting paid like the nickle corner and Hanson is getting paid like the starter. I knew this was coming once i heard what we paid Hanson and they had to know it was coming too. So I guess the FO isnt worried about it because if they were they would have taken care of him before giving hanson that dough. As far as trading Brown for Boldin…… I dont know its like taking a step forward than taking a step backward so I dont think it helps us or hurts us all it will really do is eliminate the contract issue with brown

Hansons solid

i dont think its a great idea to trade sheldon unless something interesting presents itself in the draft. If they gave Hanson that money they probably assume he’s ready or close to ready to be a starter. But still he’s under contract and solid depth on D is always a good thing.

Yet his trade value will most likely never be higher.

I don’t know, we’ll see what happens.

by AllPhillySport on Apr 20, 2009 9:41 PM EDT reply actions

Think about the fact that he is getting paid like the nickle corner and Hanson is getting paid like the starter

He should have thought about that before he signed a long term contract. If he knew he was worth more than the contract he was offered several years back, he should have opted for a shorter deal or a trade when he had the chance. You can’t call do-over just because you happen to outperform a contract that you accepted without issue.

I say give him the Lito treatment, draft another CB and let him battle it out with Jack and see what happens. This only applies if Sheldon wants to be a prick and hold out this season. He might have good incentive to do so after seeing Lito basically get rewarded for bitching.

In addition……I think these guys deserve to make the money! They put the fans in the seats and generate the revenue….
However, I think these players need to start playing out their contracts or waiting till they are near the end of their contract before they whine for new ones!

These gripes will continue to be around

unless contracts are made entirely performance-based or completely guaranteed. That in itself creates a lot more problems than the system now.

About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

unless contracts are made entirely performance-based

I like this idea a lot. Right now, there are some hybrid contracts with performance-activated clauses (i.e. If you get more than 7 sacks you increase your salary by 250K) , but I think the real answer is complete performance-based contracts like you said.

This would put more responsibility on the players. Of course there should be some base-line salary to being with, and then a set of clauses that are activated by certain performance stats. That would prevent athletes from bitching about not getting paid what they deserve, or getting paid much more than they deserve (Haynesworth).

see, I like that a lot too except

How do you mathematically quantify the play of an offensive guard? Entirely performance-based contracts can create a lot of subjectivity problems because teams will always want to undervalue the performance of a player if it will save them some $$.

no as in I dont want him on the team?

B/c everyone wants him out of there except the owner

Sheldon is just looking at all the money that the FO is dishing out to players this off season and looking at his measly 2 million hes making this year and is crying about it…… I love Sheldon but man ..shut up and play! be happy your a multi millionaire in this economy.

I don’t think we should trade Sheldon for Boldin because we need him at CB, maybe next year…. I do think that we should still trade a 1st and a 3rd for Boldin and then pick up a RB in the 2nd
