Sheldon Brown requests trade?
I just briefly saw this on ESPN like the very end. I hope this isn't true and we re-adjust his contract because he is our best CB. If we do trade him I wonder if our draft changes. I think we still might go Moreno if he is there but I heard that the Eagles really like Sean Smith from Utah and they have worked other CB's also like Vontae Davis from Illinois as well.

I love Sean Smith from Utah as well.
Too be honest. Sheldon knows his days are numbered. He is getting up there in age, but is still a great CB.

Brown is the new Dawk
We need Sheldon no questions asked, I like who we signed after we lost our leader at FS but loseing 2 d-backs in one year would be damageing, concidering Giants are trying to deal Boldin or Edwards.
WE NEED BROWN

Can someone please confirm this story.
Its unlike Sheldon to be vocal. Especially before the draft.
City of Champions!
I saw this too...
I couldn’t find an article been to ESPN, NFL, YAHOO, etc.
The timing of this seems a bit odd, though
After the Peters trade, all the Boldin rumors explode back to surface and now this? Cardinals need a Defense and Sheldon’s a Pro Bowler caliber, hard hitting CB.
We just re-signed Hanson and hopefully Ikegwuonu proves himself, so I don’t if the price is right why not?
I think he’s upset about Hanson and Peters contracts and wants more money
Disastrous if true.
Asante Samuel – 6years, $57 mil ($9.5 mil per season)
Joselio Hanson – 4 years, 21 mil ($5.25 mil per season
In 2004, Brown signed a 6 year extension to his rookie contract for $30 mil ($5 million per season)
…and he just saw Jason Peters get out of a bad contract with a trade that got him $10 mil per season.
Think about this – He’s the 3rd highest paid corner on the team. I’d be pissed, too.
gcobb just confirmed it. Sucks bro.
Sheldon Brown Wants To Be Traded
Written by Garry Cobb
Monday, 20 April 2009
I learned a couple of months ago that Sheldon Brown was very upset about his contract. Now Brown has made his unhappiness public. He wants a new deal or to be traded.
I knew this was going to go public sooner or later.
Nearly a month ago, Brown saw his former teammate Lito Sheppard go to the Jets and get a huge raise. Brown has been with the Eagles six years and done everything the team has asked him to do.
For that he finds himself making much less money than Sheppard who complained about his contract and was hurt quite a bit. Sheppard did go to a couple of Pro Bowls but Brown was the more consistent of the two.
Brown has become a leader on the defense and he’s the most complete corner on the football team.
So with the draft just days away, the Birds have another problem. They’ve got an unhappy starting cornerback.
From what I understand, Brown let the Eagles know that he wanted a new deal, but they’re not willing to give him one, so he’s made

I wouldn’t mind Sheldon leaving. He’s a great corner but he’s getting old. He’s atleast worth something now. Maybe he can be added to the Boldin deal.
A man is not defeated when he is beatin he is defeated when he quits.
Sheldon Brown is no dummy...
He’s 30 right now, and when his current deal is over is he’ll be 33. Ask Shawn Springs what the market for aging corners is. If there’s a player in the NFL that understands the business of the NFL, it’s Sheldon Brown. He’s the 3rd highest paid corner on his TEAM, but probably one of the 10 best corners in the LEAGUE.
I’m surprised I didn’t see this coming. It’s business – Sucks for us, but I can’t blame him.

Sheldon must stay
They can’t let Sheldon go he is to important to this defense. I don’t wanna hear the whole aging corner shit. The guy shows up every sunday and plays, He is never hurt and he is by far our biggest leader on defense. The FO needs to suck it up and give him a new deal.
By the way I saw this on ESPN like 45 minutes ago but I cant find it anywhere else but gcobb.com and who really listens to gcobb. So who knows if it is accurate.
Agree
I totally agree Bye, Dawk :( He knows if he wants to cash in…. the chance is now. I’m pretty sure his freind Lito could have help with the idea as well.
A man is not defeated when he is beatin he is defeated when he quits.
Sheldon has got them over a barrell righ now. Its hard not to give him what he wants.

Wouldn’t exactly say that… if they feel Hanson is up to the challenge, they tell Sheldon to either show up and play or they’ll start fining him… more than likely they’ll dangle the old “conduct detremential” phrase out there as well. He’s only got them over a barrel if they think hanson can’t handle the starting duties (which he did all the games sheppard was hurt).
Additionally, this is bullshit. I know he’s upset because he’s making slightly less than Hanson, but you can’t compare the value of a 2004 contract to the value of a 2009 contract. How many corners in the league in 2004 had contracts paying them an average of $5M per? I’d venture to say not that many. Do these players honestly expect a five year old contract to be worth more annually than a present contract? Then why sign the long term deal? You want long term security and guarenteed money? Fine. But don’t bitch five years from now when your contract doesn’t look all that spiffy anymore… inflation’s a bitch… get over it.

I was just emotional at the moment. I'm almost over the shock. Please alow me to take back my comment.
I think they may work out. Say we get a second rounder. We can draft Sean Smith with that pick.

True yophillybro but.....
That’s true it’s not hard to give him what he wants. But do you really wonna spend all that money on the CB position? When you can draft someone 5 years younger and pay him way less for a couple of years. No one seen this coming……Joselio is making more money than Sheldon…… is it really that much of a surprise.
A man is not defeated when he is beatin he is defeated when he quits.
Foos05 hit it on the nail.
If you want big time cash, then don’t sign an extention. Inflation is a fact of life.
This means foos is gonn have to get another avitar.
City of Champions!
we’ll see what happens, but i’m seriously pissed… this shit has to stop… pretty soon, everyone will sign 10 year deals at moderate prices and feel sercure with themselves. then, the second they perform well, they will want a new contract or to be traded… fuck them all… sign the contract and play ball… if you don’t wnat your contract looking not as great five years down the road, ask for a fucking shorter deal initially… whinning brats… boo fucking hoo… my $5M isn’t enough!!!! god forbid they spend a day in the real word where people are poor and the economy is fucked.

hmmm
if only it was next year Sheldon cried about his contract, we could of actually seen how how much potential ikegwuonu has or how good he actually is. Puts us in a tough situation, but the NFL is a business. Could be unbelievable trade bait.
Can you really blame him though……… Shaeldon has busted his a$$ for years….. and has nothing to show for it. He deserves big time money……. JUST NOT IN PHILLY!!!!!!!!!! If they let Dawkins go……… and he was a leader in the defense. If they get a a good deal for Sheldon they’ll trade him in a heart beat……….
A man is not defeated when he is beatin he is defeated when he quits.
Can you really blame him though……… Shaeldon has busted his a$$ for years….. and has nothing to show for it.
i can’t put this any other way… you’re a god damn moron… he signed a 6 year extension for $30M in 2004… what the fuck do you mean he has nothing to show for it?

his $5M annual contract was pretty big time in 2004 when he signed the deal…

Sheldon was standing behind Joselio, with his paycheck at hand on the check cash place.
And he peeped over and saw Joselios check, and was like. “Damn, he making mad paper, I think I want a trade now”
I always lived to the idea that you never count another guys money. Its like checking out his girl.
As long as he doesn’t sign with Drew Rosenhouse, we are OK.

Dick head know what i mean B4 you start talking SHIT. He hasn’t made the pro bowl and he is considered top 10 quality………. I wasn’t only talking about money. 30mil ain’t Shit compared to contracts that GOOD CORNERS are getting now and days.

Learn to use the reply button and to form proper sentences. I realize both are fairly challenging. Again, let’s look at WHEN he signed his deal. $30M was quite alot for a corner 5 years ago. What, do you expect every player to have their contract updated every year to increase their pay if they’re performing well? What happens if they’re blowing goats? Does their contract decrease? Should they have the ability to whine and bitch every time they sign a long term deal? You’re a fool if you don’t understand simple economic aspects such as inflation, which is partly to blame here. You can’t compare a 5 year old contract to a contract that is signed in 2009.

Understood
I’m @ work I ain’t got time to go over my sentences. This isn’t English Class.
My question is bro……. If a player out plays his contract and by that i mean elevated his game to another level does he or does he not have the right to ask for more money.

Now now kids, lets fight nice.
Foos meant moron in a nice way. Foos, I’m sure ewizzy21 meant that with the best of intentions.
Foos05, what He meant to say was.
“Sheldon needs to clam up and play ball, while cashing in those 5 mil checks”
EWizzy21, Foos was just complimenting you.

sorry man… i’m just pissed off at the world today and this sent me flying off the handle… here’s what i’m saying… i understand that right now his $5M annually looks worse than it did in 2004, but he honestly can’t expect a deal of that length to hold up to market increases and inflation… those are the chances you take when you sign that deal… it’s really not acceptable to turn around whenever you feel like, and NFL players do this more every day, and complain that you deserve more money… and it’s not like Hanson is making $4M more than him this year… it’s $700K, I mean the guy endend up signing a 9 year deal if you count the extension to his rookie contract… he’s had to realize that at some point this would happen

Inflation blows bro.
This has became a dangerous trend. I don’t understand why rookies sign those extentions. Once the Eagles ask to renegiate, I would say NO! In fear that my new deal will be far below value in the future.

inflation
well its a fkn double edged sword…..they want the long term contract but then they want to renegotiate every other fkn year when someone signs a contract more then them. Call it what it is, its his EGO.
"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

It's cool I always get cursed @ I work for the Welfare Dept. LOL
I guess your right but for players like Sheldon that sucks. Take D.Hall for example he got 2 crazy behind contracts and he sucks bro. I know Sheldon has to be thinking to himself “I’m way better than that fool”. No touchdowns thrown on Sheldon until the NFC tiltle game……. that’s alot to say for a 5mil a year player.

yeah stupid ass teams fronting that kinda money for certain shitty players doesn’t help either..

the new cba needs to take care of some of these issues:
rookie caps (also not helping this crazy salary inflation)
more financial security inheriently built into plery contracts
more penalities teams can enforce for those who hold out because they want more money

exactly…What happens is the Eagles offer these extensions to young players and they say “hmm thats a lot more money then what im making right now, Ill take it!”, and then of course 5 years down the line theyve “outplayed” their contract. if the players were smart businessmen they would just play out their rookie contracts and then sign the extension. or they wouldnt take these huge 6-7 year deals.
If im the Eagles I tell Sheldon to shut up and play. he’s under contract for an other 4 years. if he wants to pout and play shitty, thus ruining his chances at getting a bigger contract anywhere then so be it.
Im also hearing that Shawn Andrews is now unhappy with his contract because of the Peters deal. seriously, where does this shit end. A contract is a legally binding agreement between the organization and the player. you dont get to ask for more money every season just because someone else on your team is making a little more then you.
If players can whine this much about their contracts and constantly demand more money then the teams should be able to ask that underperforming players return their salaries. Jevon Kearse, return your huge signing bonus because you obiviously did not play up to it.
Seriously, they need to devise a better system of protecting organizations from this petty bullshit.

if shawn andrews is unhappy with his contract....
he just needs to shut the fuck up. the guy can play when he’s healthy. but how often has he been healthy? missing games because of depression? i know his back was fucked up. but the guy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. if westbrook or whoever rushes for 1300 yards next year, talk to me then. til then take home your first round money and be happy with it.
Sheldon needs to bite the bullet on this one
hes made his ben now he has to lay in it. he wanted the contract, he got it. We cant have guys pissed off because they are doing what is expected of them and they dont get a raise every yr

Fuck I get home from work to hear this…just when I thought we were having an amazing offseason, Sheldon has to come out and shit on my parade.
I honestly don’t know if I can see this deal getting done. I want this all to be resolved in a civil manner, but I just dont see it happening. Even if the FO acknowledges Sheldon’s value, they do not like it when players go public.
