The Eagles 2nd round pick is in

Coffman_medium

Over at Mocking the Draft, the SBNation writers mock draft has been chuggin along into the second round and I've made the Eagles pick.

Chase Coffman, TE Missouri. Be sure to check out my full writeup over there on mocking the draft.

That makes our haul from the first two rounds of the mock draft WR Jeremy Maclin, RB Donald Brown, & TE Chase Coffman. Three ultra productive offensive skill players.

Is there any chance Andy Reid would actually pick 3 offensive skill guys with his first three picks? This draft was kind of special since Maclin fell, but I really do think we could see two skill positions taken on the first day. 3 is probably a stretch

Assuming the Eagles make all 3 picks, how many offensive skill position players will they come away with on day one of the draft?

Maclin with one of the first picks?

There’s no way Jeremy Maclin lasts until 21 when the Eagles draft, the longest he’ll stay on the board is 17 because by that point I have to think if the Jets aren’t taking a QB they’re taking a WR. Not that I’m not a fan of Maclin I just don’t think he lasts until 21 besides how do you pass up Brandon Pettigrew at 21 when he’s the best TE in the draft.

Easy….hes not a pass catching TE so the Eagles won’t draft him.

If we got 2 out of 3 of these guys I would be happy with our day 1 picks. All three would be amazing, but unlikely.

3 offensive skills position players...

Maybe not necessarily 3 skill position players – they’ll definitely take an O-lineman somewhere in there, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see them take 3 offensive players with the top 3 picks. Personally, I think they go with the best offensive player available on the board with their first few picks.

This is the youngest, deepest Eagles defense I’ve seen in a loooooong time…

Projected Defensive Starters

DE – Jaqua Parker (possibly) – 30

DT – Mike Patterson – 25

DT – Brodrick Bunkley – 25

DE – Trent Cole – 26

OLB – Chris Gocong – 25

MLB – Stewart Bradley – 25

OLB – Akeem Jordan – 23

CB – Asante Samuel – 28

FS – Quintin Demps – 23

SS – Quintin Mikell – 28

CB – Sheldon Brown – 30

Other Projected Defensive Contributors

DE – Victor Abiamiri – 23

DE – Chris Clemons – 27

DE – Bryan Smith – 25

DE/DT – Darren Howard – 32

DT – Trevor Laws – 23

LB – Omar Gaither – 25

LB – Joe Mays – 23

CB – Joselio Hanson – 27

CB – Jack Ikegwuonu – 23

S – Sean Jones – 27

I mean, that is some insane depth there. Meanwhile, we have virtually NO depth on offensive, so look for them to re-load there.

What I predict

I see Pettigrew at 21 (if available) and either Moreno or Brown at 28 whoever is available. With there being a glutten of OL and RBs in the draft 28 and the next pick the Eagles make there will be plenty of players to choose from. I definitely could see the Eagles trading the 28th pick to move down in the 2nd and get an additional pick to play with when it comes to talking trade.

Yeah, I don’t think Maclin would be there in the real draft… which is what really touched off me taking 3 skill players in the mock. If he hadn’t been there, I would have taken Pettigrew and Brown in the first round and probably an OL, S, or CB in the second.

Of course, if somehow Maclin does drop… I sure hope we take him!

I picked 2 because even though I think we might go with 3 if one of the top gaurds are at our pick in the second round I could see us picking him

Hmm

Maclin, Brown and Coffman would be very exciting. But let’s also remember that last year the Redskins got Thomas, Kelly and Davis and those guys didn’t do squat. They might all still be good players, but the immediate impact was zero. Let’s hope we can draft better if we do look at skill position players.

We’re also talking about an offense in Washington that was hot and cold, and are now in a position where they are aggravating their QB by being interested in other QBs so that doesn’t bode well for them.
