NFL schedule release live blog
The NFL releases it's schedule tonight at 7pm on NFL network and NFL.com. As the Eagles games are announced, I'll post them here. So keep refreshing!
We've known the actual opponents for quite some time, but the "when" is what we'll find out tonight. These are the Eagles 2009 opponents home and away.
Home - New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Denver, Kansas City, & San Francisco
Away - Atlanta, Carolina, Oakland, San Diego, & Chicago
In addition we'll obviously be playing the other NFC East teams home and away.
Here it is.
Week 1 9/13/09 - @ Carolina 1pm FOX
Week 2 9/20/09 - New Orleans 1pm FOX
Week 3 9/27/09 - Kansas City 1pm CBS
Week 4 - BYE
Week 5 10/11/09 - Tampa Bay 1pm FOX
Week 6 10/18/09 - @ Oakland 4:05pm FOX
Week 7 10/26/09 - @ Washington Monday Night Football
Week 8 11/01/09 - New York Giants 4:15 pm FOX
Week 9 11/8/09 - Dallas Sunday Night Football
Week 10 11/15/09 - @ Chargers 4:15 FOX
Week 11 11/22/09 - @ Chicago Sunday Night Football
Week 12 11/29/09 - Washington 1pm FOX
Week 13 12/06/09 - @ Atlanta 1pm FOX
Week 14 12/13/09 - @ New York Giants Sunday Night Football
Week 15 12/20/09 - San Francisco 1pm FOX
Week 16 12/27/09 - Denver 1pm CBS
Week 17 1/03/10 - @ Dallas 1pm FOX
Interesting notes - The Eagles will play at least 4 primetime games in the span on 8 weeks including 2 in 3 weeks.
The Eagles do not travel from weeks 2 thru 5.
The Giants will play 3 straight road games. The Chiefs play the NFC East 4 straight weeks.
There are no easy games between week 7 through 14 of this season. All tough road games, division games, or playoff teams from last year. The very toughest part of the season will be when the Eagles play 4 of 5 games on the road from week 10-14.
Other than the Giants, the Eagles play every game against a 2008 playoff team on the road. Tough.
It certainly seems like the second half of the season is tougher than the first, which for the Eagles is actually a good thing... Normally the team is at it's best in the second half.

keep an eye out for the Denver game ...
if I’m not mistaken that might be the best game for the BGN game … for obvious reasons.

Cowboys and Giants both got 5 primetime games

i dont care
i dont care if dawkins is there or not .. big deal .. hes getting older and is not nearly as good as he once was .. i still will miss his energy tho. . but kyle orton is garbage .. denver wont be close in that game .. the eagles should be lookin at 7-0 to start the season .. if they dont go atleast 6-1 than they are not contenders .. that first half is a joke .. the middle is tough .. and the end starting with atlanta .. who was a one year wonder and isnt all that great .. it gets a lot easier after that .. 11 wins is very reasonable

DeSEAN JACKSON THE ONE
a repeat performace would be fine by me… but you know their intention was to play the revenge card… they’re prolly already spooling together highlights of that game and punching the monkey thinking of the ratings

just scrolling it across the top while Eisen talks a lot and Faulk, Mariucci, and Billick talk shit about what they thought when they were waiting for the schedule to come out as players/coaches.

yeah good point… so the networks all had their panties in a bunch of wads because they made it a NFLN exclusive deal… were they justified or is it just a waste of airspace?
"I tried to run him over but Eli had his big boy pads on and he kind of stopped me from getting in the end zone. The next time I’ll try to jump over his head.’’ - Asante Samuel
a waste of airspace … its not worth watching … they must have mentioned Brady 60 times already.

It looks like the first half of our schedule will be relatively easy but then all 3 divisional games in a row weeks 7, 8, and 9 are gonna be tough
I dunno
Carolina and NO could go bad pretty early.
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
NO
NO sucks .. they arnt a good team .. brees throws a lot .. bush isnt anything special .. and they have no defense

Kinda like the fact that the tough games are on the road and late in the season… god knows this teams loves to fuck the dog against lesser opponents and early in the year
"I tried to run him over but Eli had his big boy pads on and he kind of stopped me from getting in the end zone. The next time I’ll try to jump over his head.’’ - Asante Samuel
if history holds true, we’ll drop a few games between week 1 and 7 that we should easily win… KC anyone? then once week 8 comes, we decide to get our shit together just in time to rape the NFC east and a bunch of other probably playoff teams… sounds like fun to me boys

yeah I like our schedule.

Yeah it’s fine. Of course, who really knows how good any of these teams will be when the games actually happen. History says that one or two of these tough games will end up being pushovers by the time they happen, and one of the patsy teams on our schedule will probably end up in the postseason.

Just got done saying this to somebody about the Redskins’ schedule.
(please don’t ask why I was engaging in conversation about the Redskins’ schedule)

me too… i’m actually looking forward to it… think of how horrid it’d be if it was reversed. if the concentration of our NFC east games and possible NFC playoff teams were at the beginning of the year where we historically start slow… that’d be alot of ground to make up come week 8 or 9

Well, Monday night has become the secondary primetime game. The big game is on Sunday nights.
Frankly, I don’t like any prime time games. If it were up to me, the Eagles would play at 1pm on Sunday every week.
i second that
"I tried to run him over but Eli had his big boy pads on and he kind of stopped me from getting in the end zone. The next time I’ll try to jump over his head.’’ - Asante Samuel
I like Sunday night games I can watch football all day long while still getting shit done then end the weekend watching my team.

night games are tough for me man… i gotta get up at 5 to drive an hour and a half to work every morning… that makes one long f’in tuesday for me

i’m throwin in the towel on this class for the night… i’m sendin the kiddies home, i wanna get outta here… later guys

Anyone going to the California games?
I am definitely going to Oakland and San Diego games, just seeing if any other Left Coaster plans on attending.

I will definitely be attending that game with probably about 50 other Eagles fans that live out here too. The Eagles bar here is awesome but watching a game live wins!

when looking at the schedule in the offseason, dont we always seem to have good odds on starting 5 or 6 and 0?

love to start slow and finish strong.

Eagles reax
"It’s an exciting day around the NFL when the schedule is released," said Eagles president Joe Banner. "The fact that we have so many early games at home gives us a chance to get off to a fast start and gain some momentum. All of the prime-time games continue to be a statement about both the popularity and the optimism about the Eagles and the incredible excitement within the NFC East. We have a stretch of three straight NFC East games once again at a very crucial time and we finish in Dallas, which could be very, very dramatic. There should be a lot of great battles in the division and if you are a football fan, no matter who you root for, that is really exciting stuff."
I know I say this shit every year...
…but we could be 4-1 before the Skins game.
Say we lose to Carolina, we get NO, KC, TB and Oakland. Not impossible. Can generate some early-season momentum.
seriously, why do the cowboys get 6 prime-time games? I know its great to see them take a dump on national TV but primetime is supposed to be awarded to the best teams. Vegas even ranked the cowboys as like the 2nd or 3rd team most likely to win the superbowl I think…thats bullshit. I hate how theyre given so much praise and the media is so in love with them…when they didnt even make the playoffs last season.
Fuck Dallas. so what if they won a few superbowls back in the day thanks to the stupidity of the Vikings. who cares that they are the heros of redneck america. their team sucks and they havnt won a playoff game since mario kart was released for N64.
regarding our schedule, i agree with everyone else that its a good thing our tough games are in the second half of the season when the team generally peaks. but at the same time that could work against us. if we have our traditional November disaster it may be a lot harder to dig ourselves out of the hole.

Its cause the Cowboys are “americas” team. I disagree but I hear it all over the place. I live in Canada, so im glad im not categorized into that haha. And yes there are Canadians that Bleed Green
Could any of the CFL teams take down the Cowboys?
Canada’s team vs. “America’s” team?

the only teams with worse records in dec and jan since 1997 than the Cowboys are the Lions and Browns … that’s good company.

im not really worried about the cowboys
They deserve to be at the very bottom. I hope their new stadium burns down.

Well
atleast the ESPN crew is only calling one of our games….those guys are painful. Although theyve atleast stopped putting Barkley in the booth for our games…that’s a relief.

The biggest factor that I see
Is that our bye week is REALLLY early!
I hope we can snag a first round bye because that’s a lot of straight football.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Yeah that’s the first thing I noticed is a combo of the early bye week plus a lack of breathing room in a versy busy schedule. I think our schedule is a lot more difficult than some people are saying.

I like it
Carolina’s hard at home, that’s pretty much the only issue I have. Who doesn’t want to start off the season right?
Looks like a decent schedule, so long as the Giants don’t get Braylon – if they don’t get a wideout that can snatch Manning’s errant passes out of the air, they’re boned this year, at least when it comes to a division title.
