Per Jag's website. The Jaguars have come to financial terms on a contract with free-agent offensive tackle Tra Thomas, 34, a three-time Pro-Bowler who made 165 starts with the Philadelphia Eagles. Thomas, from Florida State, immediately gives the Jaguars security at left tackle.

The eagles are turning into an eskimo tribe…when you get too old we just put you on iceburg and send you out to sea.

that seems kinda panzy-ish… i would prefer a similar reference to norse mythology, but i agree with the thought process here

"I tried to run him over but Eli had his big boy pads on and he kind of stopped me from getting in the end zone. The next time I’ll try to jump over his head.’’ - Asante Samuel

to old to hunt … is what the eskimos did … you could be 80 if you could hunt you were good to go. I agree with this, as long as you are helping the team you stay.

Tra is a great player....and he will be missed.

However, I trust Reid with the O-line….if he’s done anything right as a head coach, it’s been our strength at O-line.

“However, I trust Reid with the O-line….if he’s done anything right as a head coach, it’s been our strength at O-line.”

I agree with you on that one.

I wanted to ask everyone something though, why didn’t anyone predict Tra’s departure before it was obvious? I think it was because Tra still plays at a high level and will continue to do so, that’s why.

I don’t recall anyone talking about his decline or of him being a liability unitl recent weeks.

I really liked Tra and I really loved that he only gave up a few sacks a year for a decade. I will miss him and I hope his replacement can fill his shoes this year, not 2 or 3 years from now!

You will be missed Tra!

I was a little surprised

I thought that Tra was the one guy we’d keep, since he protects McNabb’s blind side. I’m guessing someone experienced is going to LT, either Herremans or Shawn Andrews. Andy wouldn’t put anyone with little or no game experience there would he? We all saw what happened with Justice.

What I am saying is that no one said that they thought both Runyan and Thomas were going to leave. Everyone on here is great at echoing the Eagles thoughts and “Speculating” as JasonB likes to cover his butt and make fun of others.

So if no one explicitly predicted this was going to happen, then it must not have been their solution or preferance. But it seems that like always everyone on here just goes with the Reids flow as always. Some things never change as they say.

Now what I am concerned is that what is going to happen if they don’t get someone in here that can do the job as good as Tra did and will do.

We all can remember the greenbay game where Reid let JR Reed try and return punts but he never had in the NFL.Kinda like Heramens not being a LT in the NFL right? We all remember that we had a solidified return man before all of this and we let him go to Atlanta(Allen Rossum) for whatever reason. We all can remember Mark Simienu and Levon Kirkland failures. We all can remember letting Derrick Burgess go and then having Mcdougle and Green from Miami do nothing. I have no idea who else was the other end except Kearse.

Ya’ll keep sipping the Kool Aid, while we keep just losing it.

Signing Thomas wouldn’t have been a big deal. We could have put one of our bazillan 5 rounders on the IR if they weren’t all that like we always do…

Actually Herremans played LT his rookie season when Tra Thomas missed some time, he did quite well.

Well

I don’t agree with everything that Reid and the front office do. I also think that Tra has something left in the tank and we could have signed him if we wanted to. I just think in this case the FO was planning for this and know what they want to do. If that is drinking kool aid, so be it.

Am I a bit apprehensive due to the fact that we will have a new starting LT for the first time in 10 or so years? You betcha. Do I think that the sky is falling? Nope.

Tra and Dawk

Tra will be missed, but I agree that one of Reid’s strengths has been putting together the O-line [Winston Justice fiasco aside]. Assuming that jackass Banner doesn’t screw up Reid’s plans there, I’m sure 5’s blindside will be protected. This Dawkins thing just has me disappointed and still bent. Dawkins is not the same player he was a few years ago, no arguing that. He is still better than two-thirds of the FS in the league. And what Banner, Eskin, and most of Eskin’s callers who have agreed with him do not understand about this is that this really was about honor and integrity. I realize that sounds corny or naive, but with Brian Dawkins, that is what it comes down to. He didn’t just take the money. The man was insulted and not dealt with in an honorable way. That’s it. If he was about the money, he would have cashed in 5,6,7, 8 years ago when he was the best FS in the game — but he NEVER went to free agency. Do you all honestly believe that was because the Eagles paid him more than anyone else would and he signed a 13 year contract? No, it’s because he wanted to stay here. The Eagles do not respect that and this loss will be felt long-term. I’m not talking about this year. I’m talking about if Stewart Bradley and Desean Jackson become stud players and are able to hit free agency and cash out, what will stop him now? loyalty to the Eagles? No way. The Eagles and Joe freaking Banner have put themselves in a position where they will have to PAY top dollar in order to get people. I realize they were right about Bobby Taylor, Brian Mitchell, Corey Simon, etc….but this genius strategy hasn’t won a damn thing yet, so I’d really appreciate if some folks would stop talking about how smart this team is. Tell me I’m wrong after they win something besides the CAP bowl. For years I listened to Eskin and other talk show guys RIP the Phillies for treating a baseball team like a business. I remember the comments “you can’t run this team like a department store.” THIS IS EXACTLY how the Birds are run.
