Breaking My Silence
I've held my tongue long enough. I didn't say anything when the Eagles let potential playmakers like Houshmandzadeh and Derrick Ward go by the wayside. I didn't say anything when they started getting rid of their depth at various positions. I haven't said anything about their cheap tactics with the third-most cap space in the league. I even kept my mouth shut (more from anger than anything else) when they let the heart, soul, and backbone of this team go.
But enough's enough. I read a story this morning in the Trenton Times that made me blow my stack. Apparently it wasn't enough that the team low-balled an icon like Dawkins before they let him go so ignominiously, they actually included a clause in their offer that stipulated he would have to pay money for any games he would miss due to injury. How do you slap an Eagles legend and fan favorite in the face like this? WHERE THE FUCK IS THE LOYALTY?! And before anyone hits me with the obvious, I KNOW that it's a business just as much as it is a sport, but that does not excuse the front office's shameful treatment of Dawkins.
I'm sick and tired of Banner and Lurie nickel-and-diming their way along a road to nowhere. This isn't how you win Super Bowls. They're letting assets go faster than Michael Jackson, and all the while they're raking it in. Lurie bought this team for 195 million in 1994; today it is worth more than a billion. You do the math. One can't help but wonder whether Banner and Lurie are content simply making money off a team that is in contention every year but just doesn't have enough playmakers to win a Super Bowl. Such playmakers don't come cheap, as we all know, and obviously it is not the intention of the organization to pursue any. It seems that they'd rather pick up beaten veterans at low cost to patchwork a team together. I don't know what they're planning on doing with the draft, but right now I am severely disappointed and disheartened by these money-grubbing executives. The "do nothing and hope for the best" mantra has got to go.
Furthermore, what's to become of Donovan? He asked for playmakers, and even threatened to ask for a trade if the team didn't deliver. The team hasn't delivered, only picking up Stacy Andrews (which I am not mad at), so what happens next? Is the team willing to let their franchise QB go just to prove how far above the players the front office is? I'm sorry, I know these are ramblings and ravings, but the lack of loyalty to the players, and by way of the players, the fans, is beginning to border on open contempt. Draft day can't get here quick enough.

I’ve held my tongue long enough.
Don’t worry everyone else didn’t … this has all be said … sorry you are mad but please move on.
WHERE THE FUCK IS THE LOYALTY?!
This is business man … it’s not about loyalty it’s about what is best for you to reach your goal … leave your emotions at the door.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
Easy to say
When it’s not your $9 million+ to give away in the name of loyalty.
Furthermore, what’s to become of Donovan? He asked for playmakers, and even threatened to ask for a trade if the team didn’t deliver.
Please show me the quote where Donovan said this.
Please...for the love of god make it stop....
What illogical arguments can possibly still exist on this topic??
Jaws your too right...
this is exactly correct. the front office is under the microscope by their fan base …. the era of our “good team” is hanging in the balance…. number 5 doesnt just make comments like that without being ready to back them up and the treatment of our leaders doesn’t help bring free agents in
number 5 doesnt just make comments like that
you should have stopped it right there … considering no one can provide this magical comment.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
whodie... seriously? your just a hater...
do you not remember the news conference??
no apparently not … McNabb never threatened to ask for a trade and never said anthing about calling off contract talks to “see what the FO does in Free Agency” … this was assumed by the media and perpetuated by blind fans.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
.... whodie
He stated that before he went into negotiations he wants to see what the birds do this offseason right ? right!!! what else do you get from that? you know number 5 well enough to understand he is getting older, he wants to still prove he can win a championship, maybe goto the hall…. and who has been asking for offensive help on numerous accounts… what else do you get from that statement ????
show me the quote … that is all I ask … you can’t produce it because he never said it. A “source” told Michael A. Smith that McNabb said this … that in my book is hearsay and it doesn’t work in court and it doesn’t work on me.
You can chose to fall into the MSM trap but until I hear it from McNabb I have serious doubts. It make more sense that McNabb and the Eagles chose to stall talks so that they can FOCUS on offseason moves and not that McNabb wants to see what they can do.
He’s under contract for 2 more years anyway so that gives the Eagles 2 full years to work this out. And trust me the Eagles FO is not run by McNabb.
Let’s try and be more rational here and not live and die by what the media says to draw up traffic on slow news days.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
Actually, its hearsay subject to a hearsay exception (if you consider McNabb a party to this matter) and is, therefore, admissible hearsay.
Really? I dunno. I guess you could qualify it as a statement against interest, but that’s really stretching it.
(it’s been 6 years since I passed the bar exam and I practice transactional corporate law, so I might’ve forgotten my nuances of evidence law. So there’s a chance I’m wrong)
I doubt that considering its a Smith telling him what an unnamed source said McNabb said. I find it hard to believe that whisper down the lane hearsay would be subject to a hearsay exception.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
mcnizzle we’re still waiting for your proof to be produced… where’s this mysterious mcnabb quote we’ve heard about from you all day???
"I tried to run him over but Eli had his big boy pads on and he kind of stopped me from getting in the end zone. The next time I’ll try to jump over his head.’’ - Asante Samuel
at least repetitive ones ...
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
I am sad too
but get over it. Dawkins is past his prime.
"In a couple of weeks or a month, I'll be excited about this team," Dawkins said. "I've got to get used to saying that -- I'm a Bronco." Then he paused. "I'll tell you one thing -- I'll always be an Eagle."
a little clarification
hey i don’t think the stipulation in the contract offer stated that he would have to pay money back. please go here and read what Florio says: Dawk details it makes perfect sense and it is not a slap in the face in my opinion. other guys have had this provision in their deal – Plax for one…. hopefully this cools you off a bit. obviously, it still sucks that Dawk won’t be wearing his Eagles green.
