BGN Attitudes

I've been coming to BGN for well over a year now.  Only a few months ago I felt compelled enough to create an account, simply to post an NFL Network video of the Deon/McNabb interview that someone was looking for.  I have made a few comments since then, but for the most part I enjoy reading rather than contributing.

Over the past few months, however, the vitrol by "veteran, regular" posters has been increasing ten fold toward new members.  While some of it is justified, the comments sections are sometimes turned into something like this:

lolz u noob nise 1st post we needz linemanz not dat stoopid WR u nub lawlz

OMG OWND!

LAWLZ SNAP! +111199919191919

For once, I'm going to offer my two cents: While I recognize that the reposting of old/played out stories can get on your nerves, posting things similar to the slight exaggerations above makes you look like a complete and total idiot.  I would much rather read a post with poor spelling and plagirised mock drafts then this high-five gotcha' garbage.  Another post about Braylon/Boldin/Crabtree that you don't like?  State why it's a bad move, and explain your reasons.  LOLZ WE NEED OTZ NUB is not an acceptable response.  Comparing the dates of your account creation isn't a good way of making a point, either.

The silent majority of readers does not care whether you joined one, two or five years ago.  We do not care that you just "owned that newbie" -- just as you feel the "noobs" are getting out of hand, so are these schoolyard antics that seem to be turning BGN into Yardbarker.  Hold yourself to a higher standard and cut this BS out.

Thanks for reading.

I agree that we definitely need to raise the level of discourse. We’re all friends here.

totally agree

IMO it´s just a good thing that so many eagles fans from all over the planet are checking in here!

the more the better!

Well put, Greg

I couldn’t agree more. The new guys get the short end of the stick here because of the vast majority of condescending “veteran” BGNers. It’s actually discouraged me from contributing sometimes.

I agree that sometime the Vets (as they say) sometimes look down on the newbies.

And some times its merited. Truth be told, sometimes vets say stupid things. I my self have been the poster child of stupid comments. We all say things that others don’t agree with.

BGN is a forum for Eagles fans, all fans, not just fans who found the site 3 years ago.

I agree to go light on the new people, and allow them to speak their minds. I will not attack a duplicate post, or a post that is about Edwards and Boldin. Maybe they didn’t see the origional post on the sidebar. If I was anoyed by a comment, I learn to keep it to myself, others may enjoy that post.

I have a dream that one day Vet and Newbies alike will post smack and smart comments on BGN with out the prejudice of when they created their accounts. We can all talk smak equal, and all unify to attach those Cowboys fans, in good taste of corse.

Newbies deserves some love. After all, I was a newbie at one point.

instead of screaming at them, just make a word document of responses you can copy and paste from when needed.

my two cents...

i’ve been on the site for a while now and joined about a month ago. i have never been terrorized by the vets or anything like that, but that’s because i haven’t said anything completely stupid nor have i plagiarized anything. i think a lot of the issues happen when people sign up and immediately make posts that are either double-posts, old news, or plagiarism. i agree that the hate-talk needs to stop, but it’s not all vets attacking all rookies. it’s just a few bad apples spoiling the bunch.

thanks

Big up to Greg. I’m in the same boat. Been reading this site for 2+ years but am pretty silent when it comes to comments. When SBNation made its changeover, I didnt see a reason to make a new account for a few months. So account creation date does little to indicate anything.

That said, we’re philly fans. So we should expect ourselves to be assholes sometimes. Just our nature.

Right!

Ahhh, we all have a common thread, however, we are still just having fun.
I get up early everyday and work hard.
I pay my bills on time.
I try to be a good citizen, son, father, brother, uncle the best I can.
Life in these times can get stressful.
Provided I am not hurting anyone
(and I doubt anyone goes crying home from the office because of a BGN posting)
Not that I rag on anyone else….hard, anyway, but, Why should another part of my life that give me pleasure and makes me smile and is all fun and games be regulated?
I love all Eagles Fans Alike.

I dont think we'll see him again

after the beating he got yesterday. which is a shame because THAT WAS FUN. I think the lesson learned from that experience, and this thread is that if you play with your toys too hard, you will break them.

It's just annoying

This site is becoming less and less fun and entertaining when you get the same fucking REDUNDANT, NONSENSICAL posts over and over again. The site was much better when the quality of posts were HIGH.

Im ready for the eagles need to make some kind of big move already. not because we NEED A #1 RECIEVER ZOMG SUPERBOWWWLLL!!!!!!1. but because it would give us all something positive and non-spectulative to talk about

I just wish all guys come up with creative names and avitars.

Makes it easier to remember who you are.

I mean a name like jkmn25 is hard to remember. Therefore people can establish a good relationship.

Also, a good avitar help you to be remembered. Just look and Joe_Ds Crying TO. Stolen from the pages of Pint Glass. (Those vets know who he is)

right now, I love Badds avitar the most

I used to think Remis had a cool avitar, remember the Eagles sneaker. That was cool. then he changed it to that Black Eagles thing. Yo Remis, you gotta go back to the sneaker.

Also, NPK, I like your Romo crying avitar, but the monkey with the gun was classic bro.

Nick Pampani, we need to get you a logo.

Whodie, your Avitar reflects you bro. I really like it.

Excellent post, Greg

I completely agree with you. My philosophy is: if you don’t like a post, then ignore it.

My avatar: a ref giving Roy Williams a horse collar, saying “how do YOU like it!?!” , with Roy’s response being “man I have been such a d-bag.” Too bad it looks crappy bunched down to such a small size.

Well said......

I have been reading and enjoyinf this site for nearly two years. I am a former Philadelphia resident who know lives in Atlanta GA and keeps up with the Eagles however possible, including the Sunday ticket. About a month ago I finally felt compelled to join the site and make my first post. While I admit it was pure speculation about the Cutler situation I threw it out for fun just to read the comments and get others thoughts. I was the first to post about it so it was not a repeat but I still had to read the “bring the troll back” posts what are you talking about “newbie” etc. The bottom line is we all “Bleed Eagles Green”
