Eagles to sign Weaver

Former Seattle Seahawks fullback Leonard Weaver weaved his way through a handful of contract offers and accepted a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Friday.

The contract, according to a source, is a one-year deal that will pay him $1.75 million but also has incentives that could take the deal to $2.5 million. Although there was more money on the table from a couple of other teams, Weaver felt more comfortable with the offensive opportunities in Philadelphia.

Weaver had been talking to the Vikings, Bucs, Seahawks and other teams, but he was hoping for the right deal from the Eagles. The Eagles didn't use much of the fullback last season. Weaver was coming off a season in Seattle in which he played more than 50 percent of the offensive snaps.

An undrafted 26-year-old who came to the Seahawks in 2005, Weaver is a fullback who can handle a lot of duties. He gets a few more carries than most fullbacks. He had 33 rushing attempts in 2007 and 30 in 2008. He's also a decent receiver out of the backfield. He caught 39 passes in 2007.

YAY!!!!!!

Obviously I am happy with this, even for above fb money.  I think the one year experiment will show Andy the value of someone like Weaver.

Hell yeah. Nice signing. You think he was actually offered more? Sounds like BS.
I think what we are paying is fair.

Also, here’s a funny link I came across: http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/Eagles_Finally_get_their_Rings/555060

for a FB

I think it’s more than fair, he has one year to prove he is worth that or more money and he should get plenty of opportunities to show that he is. I am VERY excited by this, I think he could be a huge weapon.

with Klecko back...

in the DT mix, do you think we will be drafting a DT? Mike and Brodrick startin and Klecko and Laws backing up. sounds solid? anyone think we will be going DT in the draft?

I think the 1 yr is probably the main question...

I’m sure he got more years offered from other teams, and more guaranteed money…probably not more for next year tho…

Cool

Interesting that he opted for a 1-Year deal, but let’s hope he works out and it’s longer.

Beat me to it Badd

I just joined the website to share the signing with everyone, but obviously Badd beat me to the post. Now i get to hear all the ragging about being a new member and making repeat posts haha sorry everyone. Anyway, very exciting signing. Does nothing but help this team. Much stronger at FB now as well as adding to the depth at DT.

should have shut your mouth ... it was deleted no one would have known.

Great news

I’d also like to point out that just yesterday I argued with everyone that the Eagles still had to be in the running for his services despite all the naysayers. I just saw no sign that anyone else was any more primed to sign him than we were. Bow down to my genius everyone! Kidding. Probably the first time I have ever been right. The sun shines on a dog’s ass every now and then.

As for the one year deal, is that just a trend with the Eagles contracts this year or is everyone just waiting to see what happens without a cap next year? And the money seems good from the Eagles stand point. He is getting paid like a fullback, a very high end fullback but a fullback nontheless. He is not making halfback money and that is also good for us.

Just playin’, you called it. I guess. I don’t remember your post, but if you say so!

haha I believe my exact quote was “fuck him” … WELCOME ABOARD WEAVER … lol.

in all honesty I wanted the Birds to sign him but I got pissed off at the report that he was trying to play teams against each other to start a bidding war.
