More Bad News ...
Not devastating, but certainly not good.
Per PFT:
WARD SIGNS WITH BUCS
The Derrick Ward free agency tour has ended.
And the final resting stop was Tampa.
Per a league source, Ward has agreed to terms on a four-year, $17 million deal.
He’ll earn $6 million guaranteed in the first year, $9.25 million over the first two, and $13 million over the first three.
and
EAGLES' THOMAS VISITING JAGUARS
Philadelphia Eagles free agent offensive tackle Tra Thomas visited the Jacksonville Jaguars today, two league sources told Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
According to the article, it’s unknown whether Thomas remains in Jacksonville.
Thomas’ agent, Peter Schaffer, declined comment.
Thomas has started at left tackle since being drafted by former Eagles coach Ray Rhodes in 1998 and is known as an extremely durable veteran blocker.
Thomas is a free agent as well as injured teammate Jon Runyan, another veteran offensive tackle.

I never though we would sign Ward
I think he wanted to be the main man and we already had Westbrook here. We’ll find a back somewhere.
I really would like to see Thomas come back, though. I guess we wait and see.
In hindsight, it might not be terrible news ...
… it’s just tough being patient from now til draft day :)
I came here to say this
This is why Buck left. Ward can see how many touches the 2nd RB gets here, so Philly was out of the question for him to begin with.

A rookie is happy with whatever touches he gets, so maybe we go that route.
Anyone got Tony Hunt’s phone number? :)
Agree
No established RB is gonna want to come here to be a sure backup to Westbrook…And we can’t give 13M guaranteed to the 2nd string back as much as I thought Ward was a good fit here…
Gotta go the young RB route…they’re hungry and they can try to outplay Westbrook and take his spot in a couple years…like Marion Barber did to Julius Jones and Maroney to Dillon, and Hightower to Edge…
bring on Chris Wells- draft that dude
When I look at this team, I still don't feel as though we are very far away, we still have to work hard and do the things we are capable of, but we do have the chance to get back and come back strong." -Brian Westbrook-
The low-ballin Eagles
i didnt really want Ward, but this just goes to show, the Eagles low ball every player they go after. i’m not saying its a bad thing, but we’ll see. this might be the reason we never got Moss last year. again i didnt really want Ward, but this is getting ridiculous.
The Eagles offer every prospect...
Exactly what the player is worth to them. We will low-ball players that we maybe would like, but don’t like enough for a big contract. That’s fine. The offer we made to Dawk was not a bad offer, it wasn’t embarassing. Denver’s contract was RIDICULOUS!!! Good for Dawk, I’m happy for him and his family, and I’ll miss him in Philly…but the FO didn’t think he was worth that much money.
T.O., Jevon Kearse, Asante Samuel, (heck the long-term offer we made to Reggie Brown) and yes…even our offer to Randy Moss are not low-ball offers by any means. We pay the guys we really want.
Of course I think Ward is worth 4 years @ 17mil, but as every post is saying…the #2 RB for the Eagles isn’t utilized. We’ll never have two 1000yd backs in a single season like the Giants did with Ward and Jacobs last year. That’s just not Reids offensive philosophy
"What did it feel like? That collision, I didn't feel nothing, because he was pretty much defenseless. It was like running through a cardboard box. Seriously. Cardboard box."- Sheldon Brown on his pounding of Reggie Bush in the '06 Playoffs
"lowballing" seems to work fine for the
Patriots, Colts, Steelers, et. al.
I would call it “fiscal responsibility.”
The Eagles aren’t like the Bengals, Jags & Bills, where they really don’t have money and are cheap about everything, they just choose to spend it in less-flashy ways, like extending young players before they hit FA and get overpaid, etc.
Besides, blowing the (bank) wad doesn’t seem to be working for the Redskins or Cowboys anymore than “lowballing” is working for the Eagles, so …
